Here you go...this was a rough day for Gopher basketball. The 5th worse home loss in Gophers history.

Chris Collins:
• Really pleased with our effort today. This was a huge game for us because we've been a team in past years, where it's been an extended losing streak. We've lost 10 in a row, we had a tough week last week, and this was a big game for us to test where we are as team. It was a team win, not the B-MC and Tre show. Our efficiency was really good. A lot of guys stepped up and made shots. Anytime you can win on the road in the Big 10, you need to savor it.
• I just thought it was one of those games, it's not indicative. Richard is a really good friend of mine, he has a lot of young guys, I know the feeling. You're trying to get them to realize what it takes to play in this league. I love where his program is headed, it was just one of those days where we played good today, and they weren't on their game.
• I thought we functioned well offensively, we didn’t panic. We made shots. Do you make shots when you're open or do you miss? Today we made them.
• When King has it rolling, that's when MN plays really well - he only got 3 shots, that was a big focus.
• On McIntosh having 11 assists: I've got a special point guard, he's an elite player.
• It's hard, it's not easy when you're a competitor. Both of us came in at the same time, we're both in year 3. We both grew up with basketball, we talk a lot in the summers when we see each other and see time. You've got to find the small victories, even if you aren't getting wins, to get the morale up. Different practice methods. There's no exact science. I see this is a program on the right track, Mason is a sophomore, Jordan Murphy is a freshmen. . I've played against Reggie Lynch, he's a great player, Amir Coffey, his sister plays for us, he's a stud.

Richard Pitino:
• Gotta give them credit, they were really good and we were really bad, obviously.
• I think our guys, what they have to figure out, is when times get tough on the court, gotta guard and rebound.
• They totally outplayed us, and that's all on me.
• Until I think that our identity has become defense and rebounds, we've got no shot, because we aren't a great offensive team.
• They make some adjustments, we didn't guard the 3 very well in transition. McIntosh is going to be a great player, I'm a big fan of his as well.
• On Murphy - The foul trouble took away from his aggressiveness today. He didn't have a great game today. The things is, our guys have to stay confident when things aren't going well, they really lost their confidence.
• King - didn't have great body language today. What I'm disappointed with, is rebounding, there were times he didn't see the ball. I wish he would stop worrying about his shot. He's got to lock in on team defense. He lost confidence today more than anything today. He wants to help the team win by shooting.
• I thought we were playing hard, then the 1st few minutes of the 2nd half, that zapped our energy. You have to keep playing hard, regardless of what happens.
• We're not good at a whole lot right now, defensively. I don't think it's zone or man that's the issue, it's just execution on both sides.
• On Konate getting so much playing time- it just happened the way it did, it had to do with Murph in foul trouble as well. I thought he did some good things. He is really emotional on the court, in a bad way, he's getting really frustrated with the refs and himself, he needs to calm down a little bit.
• I think we're going through it like he did last year, they lost 10 in a row last year and look where they're sitting now. They're better from it. Looking at it right now, it's not a lot of fun, but they've gotta learn. You have to stay positive in today's world, or you're gonna get beaten down. I'm not saying people shouldn't beat us down. But you've got to stick with that you're doing and believing in it, and staying confident - but understanding what's wrong.
• More frustrated this game? No more than any other game.
• On Buggs - it's a practice thing. I don't want to make him look bad. He's working, he's just got to get better. I played the guys that I thought would help us win the game. He's a good kid, just gotta keep working.
• On lack of senior leadership - I think you look to anybody, I don't think those guys played great today, but you can't shelf them. You have to keep on looking at everybody. It's not Joey or Carlos's fault, it's everyone's fault…starting with me. We have to look at every guy available in the program. It's a collection of everybody. We understand that we're young, but we've got to do something about it, it doesn't excuse you from playing hard all the time.

Maybe we should have "played not to lose" like we did against Penn State?

Yeah, right, Richard the selfless. How bad could Buggs be to be held out of a 25 point blowout? I guess Buggs could take some satisfaction that he had no part in this debacle anyway.

For those at the game was there really no booing? I couldn't hear anyone voicing their displeasure with the utter garbage on the court on television. It is pretty scary that people don't even care enough to boo, that's a bad sign going forward. I feel bad for anyone who took their time to go to that game, much less paid money to do so. Pitino claiming the team played hard in the first half is complete bs. Northwestern got wide open 3 after wide open 3 in the first half, they just didn't knock them down.

I am personally to the point now where I won't defend Pitino any longer. I still think it's in the best interest of the program to at least see if he can turn it around next year because I'd like to keep Coffey/Curry (I think Hurt likely sticks with his LOI regardless of who is coaching). Having said that, 2017 recruiting is going to suffer because of this season. Every coach recruiting against the Gophers will use Pitino's job security against us. I know at one point their was a lot of confidence in the Gophers landing Theo John and I hope that hasn't changed, but fear it has.

Theo John has a lot of raw skill/ability, and I know that we're starving for bigs...but Theo John has not impressed me when I've seen him play. Still young and I'm not an NCAA coach, but it wouldn't kill my fandom if he didn't commit to us.

Booing college athletes/coaches is taboo for some reason.

The atmosphere was dead throughout. No booing or cheering. Well, except for the half time show.

Saw coach on the news and he looked like a dead man walking. Not good.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with you. Unlike Football which requires a number of players and several years to turn around. One or two guys can completely change a team and make them considerably better. i expect Rico to be here next year (with a top 20 class coming in...top 3 in conference plus I think we add another to replace Buggs) and see how it goes. But a short leash if the team is playing without passion/purpose next year like they are now. Just my opinion.

There was some booing - it occurred late when the Gophers failed to make an effort at rebounding and NW got a fresh clock. Not loud, but it was there.

Also, there was significant cheering when it was announced that there was 1 minute left in the game.

Thanks for the recap, Nadine.

And to think that we were Shaka Smart staying at VCU from not having our best player...............

Buggs not playing in this one is crazy. A coach and team desperate for a Big Ten win and he doesn't even try Buggs? Something is up there. Buggs does not play nearly as bad of defense as what most of the guys played today so it cannot be that. Buggs is one of the best shooters on this team and he can rebound.

Piton basically did the same thing last year to Eliason. College teams don't tank like the NBA. There is no advantage to losing. If your team lacks talent and you have a player who can help you win, he should play. There have been no rumors of behavioral problems associated with Buggs.

I was fine with Pitino not playing Buggs against MSU, as we were playing well and the rotations had chemistry- it's not like he's our best player. However, when nothing is working, and you're playing horribly, try anything, try any weapon. Even to provide some spark off the bench.

If Buggs can graduate before next season and if Pitino is still the coach next year, he would be crazy not to transfer. Multiple D1 teams should be willing to take him as a grad transfer. Elliot had to sit on the bench with no options during his final year and I wouldn't take that risk if I were Buggs.

I think if Buggs leaves if will be at Pitino's urging, he's had plenty of chances to transfer and didn't, doubt he will at this case. Don't think another P6 school is going to take him for a year
