Reusse doing some serious trolling & fishing w/ this stinker of a "column"

If Pat wants more equality, then how about he write about the women's golf team or the women's rowing team a few times a week? Because the STrib won't get clicks and without clicks, he doesn't have a job. So similar to the U, the Star Tribune and Pat put resources that drive revenue. He's just too hypocritical to admit it.
Go Gophers!!

Reusse couldn't care less about equality. He has used his newspaper column and radio show to highlight hypocrisy, stupidity, and wrong doing in sports for over 40 years. If Minnesota sports fans didn't love him he would have disappeared a long time ago. As it is, it seems he can work at the Strib and KSTP for as long as he wants. More than a few of his critics in GopherHole would be willing to work those jobs for free.

I've said it before - PR hates football. I have heard him say it on the radio - twice! Just one more attack.

And it's Joel Maturi and Pat Reusse's best buddy UpnorthGo4 to their rescue yet again. Please dude.

Just because you loooooove the football and basketball programs doesn't mean that these aren't realistic points:

-That is a LOT of money going to a largely unproven coach who hasn't even taken his team to the tournament.
-That is a realistic but perhaps pushing it amount of money to a coach who has done some very good things but still hasn't won a bowl or beat Wisconsin.
-The athletic department is absolutely Scrooge McDuck swimming in cash when proportionately compared to almost any other point in their existence, largely due to television cash, and the majority of it is being doubled down into football and basketball.

Even if he pushes the envelope a little too far for me sometimes, I always trust Pat's instincts.

First off, Pat's instincts told him Kevin Love was an NBA bust during his first home preseason game as a rookie. Based entire column on it the day after.

More importantly, you'd have an awesome point if you could tell us where Hugh Mccutcheon's salary ranks in the Big Ten. Where does the wrestling budget rank in the Big Ten? Could you tell us where the non football/basketball budgets are lacking?

20 plus sports at the U....only football, men's basketball and men's cross country have not won a big ten or ncaa title since 1983. Why are all those sports hording the resources from those three?

Reusse is a jerk. Nothing new. The reality is that anyone writing or twittering about sports is an idiot and clearly lacks a moral compass. If sports writers really contributed to society, they'd be working towards a cure for cancer (yes, I'm smart enough to know that cancer isn't a single disease, but I'm writing to the less intelligent) or offering up solutions to the problems of the less fortunate. Sports writers and bloggers don't fight our wars or solve any of our problems, rather they are just self centered individuals worrying about themselves ans no one else.

No, I don't think you are.

Sure, you're right, I should have said "I usually trust Pat's instincts." He swings and whiffs sometimes for sure, but for every one of those there are a few that connect. His immediate and unwavering identification of Brewster is the sportswriter equivalent of a par 5 eagle.

I don't know specific info on our athletic budget, no, but you don't really need to know those specifics to understand how things have been operating since we have gotten a shot of straight BTN cash. As shown by the fact that somehow a Title IX investigation happens amid us diving in the money bin. We are even one of probably a handful of schools in the whole country that have a third profitable sport (Pride on Ice). We turned a profit in 2013 as an AD, and I assume we did last year and will this year too, with the constant increase in BTN cash. We should act like it. If we are, I surely haven't read anything about it. I just read about the bush league decisions and antics like our administration wetting our pants at the thought of Richie leaving.

Exactly!

You forgot to include Tim Brewster, dupa. I think it is a safe bet that I am the only poster in GopherHole that likes all three of them. I believe that is why my wife and kids all love me like they do. It is a mystery to me why GopherHolers don't feel the same way about me.

I'm one of the few here who generally will defend Reusse, or at least not get my undies in a bunch when he writes something negative about the Gophers (who over the years have deserved a lot of criticism). However, this is clearly a trolling column, no question about it. The U should absolutely be pouring money into football and basketball, at least on the facilities level. College sports is an arms race, plain and simple, and we are way behind. Only Northwestern has worse facilities than we do, with the exception of TCF Bank Stadium, which is a top notch facility.

The Trib gets no clicks from me. His whole Pulitzer price writing style consists of trolling. Too bad the bitter old man doesn't use the opportunity he has to write useful interesting columns.

Could probably find snarky articles he wrote bashing the U for not having a football first focus and needing to ignore non revenue sports until they get it right with revenue sports. Contrarian's write contrarian articles because that's who they are and there is no hypocrisy because they consistently bash the status quo whatever it happens to be. It's a living.

He has mentioned, on more than one occasion, that agitation is the key to success in his business. This seems to be working well for him.
