Retire Randy Breuer's Jersey

Thank you. I take it as a compliment from the brown nose crew on this thread. :cool02:

Dude, just stop. You're not only an embarrassment to Gopher fans with this ignorance (please tell us you're not one of us), but you're also making yourself look like a jack*ss and quickly entering dpo territory. You used to have quality thoughts on other issues ... do you now really want this whole board to think of you as a complete joke?

I'll be curious to see what the Gopher athletic dept does. While I do understand the degree requirement, I also see the need for some flexibility for legendary players who were here a long time ago, stayed in good academic standing but didn't get their degree in 4 years (which MANY, MANY students do not, even without the rigors of an athletic schedule), achieved success in their post-college years, and then whose major/course requirements have changed so much in the intervening years it makes completing the degree substantially more difficult.

It is very difficult, however, to draw a line that doesn't end up practically mooting the degree requirement.

You do realize that what a sports discussion thread board thinks of me is quite low on the list of my concerns...don't you?

Little Randy asked a question. I responded in a way that you and others don't like. Get over it and mostly get over the idea that you are somehow less ignorant than others.

I disagree with hanging the Breu's name from a banner. I see it as settling for mediocrity. Obviously you disagree. Big deal, we disagree. If that's entering dpo territory for you, then so be it. I also was one of the first people to call out Tubby and it ended up just like I called it...much to the dismay of the GH Gestapo. I make no apology for my personal opinion. If you don't care to read my opinion, you know how to block me. Be my guest.

18 posts later and you're telling us it's quite low on the list of your concerns?

I might be a jackass, but the difference is that I'm almost always right. Tiny said virtually nothing in this thread that was right or made any sense whatsoever.

P.S. Are you charging me rent for all of the time I'm spending inside your head?

In Tiny's defense (sort of - I wasn't even born when Breaur played), we do often equate the est guard with being the best player. It is fairly uncommon a big man is deemed the unquestioned best player on a team. I'd argue that is partially why the majority considers MJ the GOAT over guys like Russell (11 titles!!!! And a player-coach!!!!) and Kareem. If you look back at the last 20 NBA finals MVP you have-

LeBron James - wing
Dirk Nowitzki - big
Kobe Bryant - wing
Paul Pierce - wing
Tony Parker - wing
Dwayne Wade - wing
Tim Duncan - big
Chauncey Billups - wing
Shaquille O'Neal - big
Michael Jordan - wing
Hakeem Olajuwon - big

That's 11 different winners, 7 of which at guards, 4 big guys, of which 2 had very good face up games as well (Dirk & Duncan) I'd argue Hakeem and Shaq were the only two true post playing big men to be the best player on the best team. Even Hakeem was a pretty good jump shooter.

Not saying this essentially applies to this argument, but I can understand Tiny's point that typically the guard is viewed as the best player on a team, not the big man. Weather that is always accurate or not is a whole other discussion.

(Side note, apologize for using the NBA- just easier for me to look up and more recognizable players)

It's one thing to have an opinion, but it's quite another to degrade and mock one of the better big men in program history and then claim that he wouldn't even be offered by the gophers today. I am quite sure Breuer would make EE and lil Mo his bitch

Exactly....Tiny didn't just make a point that perhaps he shouldn't have jersey retired based on the criteria.....he went on to rip on Breuer, even to the guys own kid that he was lumbering, slow, couldn't jump even a few inches off the ground. He even called Breuer a Lummox. That went from stating his opinion on the issue to just being a jerk.

Breuer is the programs third all time scorer, is in the top ten in the program in all time rebounds. He certainly played well enough to be considered for a jersey retirement. If the argument is about the degree and the rules for consideration, that is another issue.
