Recruiting

I dont think they ever put out a full release on their 23 class like they usually do which leads me to believe they may have been waiting for someone else. The Canadian kid would make sense, otherwise it has to be a younger kid.

If this came because we are playing UConn next year and that put us over the top on a fantastic recruit, that would be a big strike against my opposition to playing UConn.

I love the idea of recruiting Canada and Northern Europe for international kids. If it is that Canadian kid I really don't know how good of a commitment that is. Seems the info. on her is quite limited. I like it but just not sure how happy to be about it. Excited to hear who it is and more about her.

OK, the Tweet provided clues to find information on Ajok Madol. Before I couldn't find much.

-Played for Basketball Canada, the national team, a strong honor.

-Is listed mostly as a wing. In the past a guard. On one site a forward.

-Apparently played for Archbishop MC O'Neill Catholic High School Titans where I am seeing big scoring number for Madol in games.

-46 points on February 1, 2022. Wow!
-30 points the next game.
-14 the next against a much better team.
-Then 29
-21, 26... Etc.

There is almost no video to be found. Could be a lack of marketing savvy, money, or set-up there in Saskatchewan.

That is what I found.

Saskatchewan finished the first half of the Canada Summer Games with 10 medals — six silver and four bronze.

The final silver-medal performance was in female basketball, in which Saskatchewan advanced to Saturday’s championship game, won 71-60 by Alberta in St. Catharines, Ont.

Saskatchewan’s roster consisted of: Mattea Teece, Nevaeh Ferrara Horne,
Ajok Madol, Megan Weisgerber, Brynn Endicott and Sarah Valley, all of Regina; Logan Reider, Nada Emara and Alexis Lewans, all of Saskatoon; Morgan Otsig of Wynyard; and, Frances Claire Aceron of Estevan.

Ajok Madol had both goals for the O’Neill Titans as they edged the LeBoldus Golden Suns 2-1 on Saturday to win the Regina High Schools Athletic Association’s 5A girls soccer championship at Leibel Field.

I'm going to delete these Internet pulls later as not real helpful but read while it's here.

Likewise but I doubt it.

Sounds like Madol was recruited by quite a few p5s, not sure who. But Gophers had been on her for a couple years and even went to see her in Canada this winter. Heres a tweet from Carly in Saskatchewan that proves that.

Interesting. Thanks for posting.

As AAU season is starting here shortly, I wanted to give out names to watch from the state of Minnesota to keep an eye on or keep track of the name in regard to possible offers or targets of the Gophers. I AM NOT SAYING THIS IS THE BEST OF THE BEST IN THE STATE. I repeat... I am saying these are either players with current offers, close to getting offers or could be in for an offer with a big AAU Season.

2024:

Tori McKinney- Minnetonka- North Tartan

Alyssa Sand- Albany- MN Comets

2025:

Aaliyah Crump- Minnetonka- North Tartan

Jordan Ode- Maple Grove- Minnesota Fury

Tori Schlagel- Eden Prairie- North Tartan

Addi Mack- Minnehaha – Minnesota Fury

Hadley Thul- Alexandria- North Tartan

Sam Wills- Visitation- MN Stars

Bree Bowman- Prior Lake- North Tartan

Erma Walker- Hopkins- Metro Stars

2028:

Chloe Johnson- Duluth Marshall- Minn Starks Elite

Thx for providing this.

Whalen’s calling card when she got a recruit was “Does she want to be a Gopher?” Does anyone know if Dawn has one?

she does not as far as I know so far lol.. I was curious about this as well.

Note that PGH's #2 2025 prospect Kendall McGee is out for the AAU season, and presumably next year's high school season, with a knee injury. She missed the championship game of the state tournament and had surgery a couple of weeks ago. She tended to have blind spots on the court and would play recklessly sometimes, so it doesn't surprise me that she got injured during a big game.

I am interested to see how Tori McKinney performs during AAU. She missed the entire high school season due to a broken leg so we'll see how she is when she is back. She is a silky smooth player and she and Crump play really well together. She's more of a steady personality and she seems to be able to clam down Crump and smooth out her rough edges. Since they play on the same North Tartan team they get lots of playing time together. Word was that she was due to start playing again in February but that didn't happen, so I hope that was by choice and not because she was having problems recovering.

I’m sorry, but knee injuries are not caused by blind spots on the floor. They are caused by genetics (especially in girls), landing wrong, twisting unexpectedly, or a combination of those factors….

Interesting reading. Here are the Star Tribune All-Metro teams for the last six years.

2018 All Metro Teams at link, Paige Bueckers Metro Player of the Year:

2019 All Metro Teams at link, Paige Bueckers Metro Player of the Year:

2020 All Metro Teams at link, Paige Bueckers Metro Player of the Year (3rd in a row) :

2021 All Metro Teams at link, Maya Nnaji Metro Player of the Year:

2022 All Metro Teams at link, Mallory Heyer Metro Player of the Year:

2023 All Metro Teams at link, Tessa Johnson Metro Player of the Year:

What's interesting is that the Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year is usually different than Miss/Ms and Mr Basketball Minnesota. I'm not sure if the love is being shared among more players by splitting the awards or just differences in viewpoint. Of course, various prospect rankings differ too.

Miss/Ms Basketball 2018: Megan Walstad, Eastview

2019: Kacie Borowicz, Roseau

2020: Paige Bueckers, Hopkins

2021: Adalia McKenzie, Park Center

2022: Amaya Battle, Hopkins

2023: Tessa Johnson, STMA

FYI: Mara Braun was injured her senior year and missed much of the season or would have been a leading contender for one of those awards. She was the top ranked prospect from Minnesota according to several rankings.

I'm sorry but what does this have to do with recruiting.. it's all old news.. I don't see a point to this post.
