Do you think it is realistic to have a 2014 class of

Vaughn
Reid
White
Macura
Tum Tum

Incredible to think we would even be in the running for a class like this considering our last coaching staff seemed to really be lazy in recruiting

Thanks but no thanks to oto?

Who knows. It's totally possible he could transfer after this season. Theres also a slight chance Dre could declare, but I doubt he would unless his draft stock really exploded. Next years class is really good and it would be smart for him to wait until 2015. Also a possibility for other transfers, but as of now we only have those four scholly's available.

I'm liking our chances of getting Nairn, Macura and one of White/Travis. If that last spot goes to Vaughn or Whitehead, I'll be ecstatic, but I'm not very confident on either of them. If we don't get one of them, then I'm not sure who we get with that last scholarship.

Don't think White is realistic but the others are.

I think White is definately a realistic option. Arizona and Georgetown were considered the favorites for White. Arizona just signed a 5* PF and Georgetown has backed off recruiting him since he broke his arm in the Peach Jam. MSU has also backed off. And it also looks like he is coming up here for an official this fall. I think we have a legit shot at him.

Yes, White not being realistic doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, especially with the news of Victor committing to Zona. I don't really agree with Vaughn either, there hasn't really been any indication that the Gophers aren't a likely landing spot for him. If fact, I don't think there is a single team I would say he is more likely to end up with. That doesn't mean that I think he will end up here necessarily but I think we have as good of a shot as anybody right now. Of that list, the one that I think is most unlikely (I don't think any one of them is unrealistic at all) is Whitehead, as Syracuse seems like the leader for his services probably followed by Indiana unfortunately. That being said, I think we have at least a decent shot at all of those guys. To end up with all of them would be somewhat miraculous but it's fun to dream isn't it?

realistic recruits? Those are your dream recruits. Let the signed LOI's tell us the realistic recruits.

In that case we don't have any realistic recruits, we're doomed ;)

As of right now??? Yes we are, Pig Man. Question...since when did the imagination of a recruit being realistic take precedence over what is?

Don, I honestly think that each one of those guys is realistic. Here's how it boils down:

Vaughn: From here and has said many times that his family would like him to stay so they can see him. Also wants to be the guy and he would certainly be that here.

Travis: Also from here and has said it would mean a lot to play for the hometown team. Wants to go to a good academic institution with a premier business school, which we have (although Stanford is on another level). Has said (unless you listen to his dad) that he will use on of his officials here.

White: Couple of schools moved on since the injury and Arizona likely just fell out of it as well. At this point it seems our main competition is DePaul and maybe UCONN. Visiting in October.

Macura: Probably the most likely of all. Brad Stevens going to the Celtics may have saved this one and rumors are swirling that Macura is likely to commit in the near future.

Tum Tum: We are in his top-3 and Indiana could easily get their pg before he visits or may decide they don't want to take one in this class since they have Yogi.

Whitehead: We made his top-5 and he says (emphasis on the word says) he will visit. Like I said I think he ends up at Cuse but we are definitely in the running at this point.

Can you please explain why any of those guys are not realistic as things stand? I certainly don't think we are likely to get all of them but I couldn't pick one guy out of those 6 that we don't have a legitimate shot at.

An imagination of a recruit being realistic would be saying we have a shot at landing Jahlil Okafor. Now with the other recruits listed in this thread, there is actual evidence that we have a realistic shot of them playing here. Some more realistic than others, but nobody is imagining the evidence here.

This would be an incredible class. Landing a five star, three four stars, and a top 150 three star is likely a stretch, though IMO. Remember Pitino has only had half the time as other coaches to build relationships with these recruits.

I believe all are a possibility (as they haven't eliminated MN yet), but unlikely in my opinion to land all 5 and have a class that loaded. Sure, it would be a dream come true but I think realistically MN can land both Tum Tum and Macura. Vaughn and Reid have some tough choices ahead to make. If Reid were to land at Duke or Stanford I couldn't blame him and my gut tells me that Vaughn will head to a more successful basketball program. White, although he has MN on his short list, there are still a lot of suitors out there despite the injury. I'm hopeful to be surprised and that Pitino can grab 3 of the follks on your proposed list.

I doubt you get Macura, Vaughn, and Whitehead in one class, I think two could be a possibility if one is Macura.

I think the same is true of White and Travis, if one commited the other would probably look elsewhere.

Oh I definitely agree. White and Travis could possibly coexist but probably only with White at the SF position and it seems like most see him as more of a stretch 4.

Are we pretty much out of the running for Josh Perkins? I'm still holding out the slightest bit of hope for him.

Not officially but it would seem it will either be Gonzaga or UCLA for him. We'll know for sure in 6 days, Josh has said he will announce on the 24th.

Depends on your definition of realistic, for most Gopher fans "realistic" = pessimistic. That said, I don't think Reid Travis and Paul White will end up at the same school. The Gophers are in the running for all the players you list, which is exciting. I'd be thrilled to get one of the Vaugh/Whitehead/Travis bunch along with a PG like Tum Tum or Robinson. I do think you are smart to be listing 5 recruits. We have a new staff and I think that makes it even more likely that a scholarship opens up and it is already commonplace across college basketball.

4 scholarships is quite a few to fill, especially when we haven't signed anyone yet. Plus we've already got 4 or 5 opening up next year as well. I seriously doubt anyone is going to be pushed out the door. I suppose it's possible that Oto may transfer for his senior year if he doesn't see himself getting any minutes, but he's got a great chance to try to prove himself this year, and I don't see anyone else leaving other than possible Dre going pro if he has a big year. But even then, the 2014 draft class is insane, he's likely better off waiting for 2015 even if he's good enough to go pro after this season.

tyus, vaughn, travis, whitehead,....macura white, and tum tum to walk on.

Macura is the only one I am super confident about

Tum Tum+Macura+Baldwin+White would probably be my guess right now. Would love for any of the Big 3 to make the list though.

I completely agree. I would not be shocked to see any of these players in Maroon and Gold. Therefore, I would say it's definitely realistic to me that we could have a recruiting class of those players. I could legitimately see each individual player as a Gopher. Will it happen? Almost assuredly not. But that doesn't mean that it's not realistic.

Alright, so who's the first verbal commitment? Macura?

If one of the others, now we're talking!
