rationale: the Gophers have not done well vs Illinois when the Gophers were based around a power running game. But this is a different Gopher team. instead of lining up and trying to run into the teeth of the Illinois defense, Brosmer & Co. will go with the quick passing game, spread the ball around and get Taylor the ball in space. I think that makes the difference.
Gotta get the running game going. This isn't Maryland. Illinois is 16th against the run and 10th against the pass. Maryland was 18th against the pass and 8th against the run.
I hope I am wrong but BB has our number already compounded by a road game in the Big 1G. For me this is a huge game for Fleck. To me this would be an unexpected victory. This is the type of game the Gophers have lost going back to Mason. Just when the team starts gaining traction and the fan base gets excited, along comes a loss. It would be so refeshing to actually win one of these types of games. Ironically, I have been a huge supporter of PJ's since he began. But the NC and IA losses changed that for the first time. This is the type of win that will win me back.
Perich and Walley with an INT. Walley with a pick 6. Jackson with 1 TD, Spencer with a TD, Brosmer with a running TD and Taylor with a rushing TD. Kesich with 1 FG.
Hopefully we play the Illinois vs Purdue version of Illinois. Purdue shouldn’t have won that game.
Gophers 28, Illini 27. We go for, and get, 2 point conversion after scoring TD with under a minute to go. Illinois gets ball back with 39 seconds left. Hail Mary attempt is picked off... by Koi.
