Postgame thoughts

Playing Mason, Konate, and maybe JUJU to get some experience making next year less of a rebuild. The problem is the Seniors (other than MO) really deserve to sit at times. They plane suck at points during the game and should sit to think about things. . Also, Carlos Morris and Buggs really cannot play at this level. They have Athletic ability hat used to work playing in High School but in the B1G, you also need skill and BB intellect. Both players really do not understand the game, especially on defense. I will be shocked if they get any play time next year.

Who's going to take their spots, especially Morris'?

You do realize we have played 16 games and do not have 1 quality win or shown any life in a game that is not against franklin pierce or southern.

We beat Wake Forest by 15. Wake played Louisville very tough just a few days ago. We also beat Georgia. I know that isn't Duke or Kentucky, but it certainly isn't some random school we have never heard of before either.

What % of teams who start 0-3 in conference make the NCAA tournament? Our next game is at Michigan. What % of teams who start 0-4 make the NCAA tournament. Sorry we can't share your optimism.

He admitted he doesn't even see 9 wins in the remaining sched and still is optimistic. I'll give him credit for being a fan to the end.

I have no issue with not calling the TO there. Little Dre should have pulled up for a 3 or gone hard to the basket.

The game was lost when Pitino sat Little Dre the last 6-8 minutes of the first half with 2 fouls. He ended the game with 2 fouls. It was totally unnecessary. If he leaves him in, we're likely down 4-6 at half instead of 12.

Everyone is learning including the coach. He should have set up a play and called TO as soon as lil Dre got cut off from his drive. Hind site is 20 20 in this case. Also, I agree to sit him with 2 fouls in the first half is a error. Joey King had enough time at the end of Regulation to make a long pass. His long shot was stupid as well. He plays hard but would not start on any developed B1G team.

So basically we've now gotta win 7 of our next 8 at home and find 3 more road wins (of which I see one).

Not out of it, but we really needed this one. The margin for error at home is now zero, and the margin of error on the road is now negative. We have to find multiple road upsets.

1. Is Carlos Morris the worst defensive player ever? 2. You can't get down 12 points at halftime and expect to win. 3. You can't give up 25 points in a half to a freshman. 4. Blocked shots - Ohio St. had 8, Gophers 2. 5. Ohio St. appeared to be the more athletic team. I was surprised to see that we outrebounded them.

1. No, Andre Hollins is -- see your point #3.
2. Agreed.
3. Hard to win when your senior leader scores 0 in the first half but gives up 25 points to a frosh.
4. We lack an athletic 4. Although Joey hustles, he's undersized and a liability.
5. We amazingly rebound okay in our system despite our lack of size.

We need to start a thread for the old guys to mentor the young guys like myself. How did you spend your entire adult life as a Minnesota sports fan. Do the losses eventually just begin to numb you? Is it alcohol?

We have an open Scholarship next year. We need to find a 3 who can actually play defense...Buggs and Morris just do not have it....

I just thought the "I will be shocked if they get any play time next year." comment was a little over the top. I would be shocked if neither one of them plays next year.

Just back from the game. Really a pathetic effort from my point of view. You don't let a team come in and just make themselves comfortable like that. This is an okay (talented) OSU team and we gave them open shots and layups all over the floor. Yes we got back into to but even then showed no heart. Can't give up on the team this early in the year but wow, I thought that was a lousy effort by a home team with a ton at stake. We ran very little offense, guys looked unsure of themselves and we played almost no defense until the end of the game. Gotta credit Mo and Elliot for showing up and lil Dre had moments. I love Pitino but he got himself schooled by Matta tonight. Other than that I was pleased....

This is why I don't like going on here after losses. We could lose to the #1 team on the road and people here would be furious. I just hope the players don't give up as easily as most on here.

Lol you must have missed the Purdue game

If you want to be optimistic: Find a way to win in Ann Arbor. After that we go: Iowa, Rutgers, @Nebraska, Illinois, @PSU, Nebraska, Purdue. It's not that hard to imagine going 6-1 in that stretch to be sitting 7-4 going into the difficult stretch.

My postgame thoughts? This team is going nowhere and is in a hurry to get there.

It could of been a lot better, could have been a lot worse. They were far more athletic,we were far more scrappy.Coach had a very off night.Lofton was in the building,we can blame him.

No, but teams have gotten hot and done more crazy things before. Just think it's a little early to give up.

It's Gopherhole, it's never too early to give up.

Exactly. As Pitino said, he wanted to open things up since there was so little time left and we were having trouble scoring against a set defense. Mathieu had a great game and simply made a poor decision on the last play. I really thought he was going to go full speed toward the hoop--worked all game.

I don't get the anger for not calling a timeout there. We've had plenty of success when we go quickly. Hell, Mathieu did it by himself several times tonight. I don't get why he just gave it up though.

I'm fine with the decision, the execution was just terrible.

I think Pitino has to find a way to get Hollins involved offensively early in the game, this team is so much better when he gets going, Ohio State really focused on him defensively, I really put some of the blame on Pitino, he doesn't run anything specifically for Hollins and then he tends to disappear.

Good point. As disappointing of a start this is, the Big Ten sucks this year. Other than Wisconsin and Maryland, any team can be beaten. Now I wouldn't bet on the Gophers turning it around, but I'm still keeping the faith. I'm interested to see how they do in Ann Arbor

We really miss Austin Hollins right now. This squad desperately needs a good defender other than Mathieu.
This is my favorite post of the evening, because I'm pretty sure that he'd be happily thrown him under the bus if he were here.

I feel we would have won this game if it had been our big ten opener, coming off 8 wins in a row, rather than coming off a 2 game road losing streak where everyone was already panicking.

We have talent but we are a fragile team. Need a little help/luck.

A lot more concerned about the evident lack of fire than being 0-3. Experience says something is not right in the locker room. Hope it's something that can be resolved.

Wake Forest isn't even going to make the NIT or finish their season with a winning record. Unless we finish 11-7....and that means going 11-4 the rest of the way....I don't see us with enough quality wins to make the NCAA's. Our resume just won't be strong enough.

On top of that I'm very concerned about next year. We lose 4 seniors who I know most of you are going to say stink.....but they play major minutes on this team. They aren't going to be easy to replace. I am also concerned about losing an instate kid like Illikainin....especially to Wisconsin. I know we ran out of scholarships, so we had to pull his offer. The funny thing is, he is rated in ESPN's top 100 while the rest of our recruiting class isn't. Oh I get it....ESPN's rankings are the worst (probably because they have us rated lowest), but I'm would love to revisit this Illikainin topic in a few years. I heard that Pitino pressured Macura to make a decision early in the fall of 2013 before we had signed anyone and while we still had 4 scholarships left. Now maybe Macura would have signed with Xavier anyways, but I would have made him a priority especially if I didn't think I had much of a chance with Jones or Vaughn.

I'm not saying we should fire Pitino or even that the honeymoon is over, but I am concerned about his inability to close the borders, especially with our top national guys. We have other very good instate recruites coming up, the most obvious one's dad played for the Gophers. If this pattern continues, yeah I'm going to start reaching for the panic button.

After every loss I think I post this, but it's always so damn true. I'm so glad I don't know any of you. Many of you are emotional freaks that deal in complete hyperbole.

Get a goddamn grip, this isn't nearly the team you're making it out to be, and it wasn't nearly the team you made it out to be a month ago.

R.E.L.A.X. - enjoy the process.

If only we had a player of Aaron Rodgers like ability saying this at the post-game!

You people are over-reacting. We are Gopher fans! Losing three debatedly winable games in a row is nothing! (ignore Maryland please) These guys are as soft as Charmin and were expected to take some lumps. The cupboard is bare or we would be seeing Gaston and Bakary. Give Pitino a couple more games to work out the rotation and pray we can win at Michigan and beat Rutgers. Because Iowa is looking pretty good.

This is the same slow B1G start we always have after crushing cupcakes. They'll toughen up eventually.

Dude, you should just relax and let people have their say. The good news is there is not apathy for Gopher Basketball. Showing some emotion is a very good thing. We have higher expectations for this team than most of the old timers who appreciate mediocrity. We all want and expect this team to be better than they are, to over achieve, and to win games like Purdue and OSU. . When they don't meet those expectations, you should expect true fans to show emotion on Gopherhole.....It is part of the process of changing a culture....

You realize there are 15 games left, right? Might be a little early to give up on the season.

I know I'm really, really, pessimistic this year but looking at our schedule we don't have a shot in hell of making the NCAA this year. Maybe that's just being realistic.

No YOU RELAX! BUB!

Mason was the only reason the game was close. His D in the second half was excellent, too bad Pitino didn't figure out the correct defensive matchups earlier in the game.

The decline in ability for Hollins over his four years is quite remarkable; if his outside shot isn't falling, he isn't of much use on the court.
