1. Is Carlos Morris the worst defensive player ever?
2. You can't get down 12 points at halftime and expect to win.
3. You can't give up 25 points in a half to a freshman.
4. Blocked shots - Ohio St. had 8, Gophers 2.
5. Ohio St. appeared to be the more athletic team. I was surprised to see that we outrebounded them.

Clearly should have called a TO as soon as we crossed half court to set up a play.
Mason will be a very good player
Inconsistent guard play kills
Gopher defense sucks
Looks like a rebuilding year
no gimme wins---maybe we split with Penn State
We need to win 3 in a row to get back to 500
Things can't get much wose and only better

Morris, Walker, and Hollins are challened defensively. King cannot block out to save his life. That is a true recipe for disaster.

Rebuilding year?? We have 4 seniors! What does that make next year?

I say play the freshmen and walk-ons and let the seniors sit in the bench. Let diedhiou (sp) and konate get some pt and have a base for next year. We were reminded tonight how freshmen can make an immediate significant impact. I think some of the guys coming in next year could be instant stars. 2015-2016 could be fun if our young front court can develop and at least be formidable.

Poor game plan on Russel out of the gate. Andre kept leaving him to help on defense. They fixed it in the second half and shut him down but the damage had already been done. Just a poor game plan/lack of one for Russell.

Andre 3 of 13.

We looked like an underdog. At home.

We are in serious trouble.

Ugh.

You realize there are 15 games left, right? Might be a little early to give up on the season... Then again, what did I expect from GopherHole?

I don't get the anger for not calling a timeout there. We've had plenty of success when we go quickly. Hell, Mathieu did it by himself several times tonight. I don't get why he just gave it up though.

I'm fine with the decision, the execution was just terrible.

Agreed, well said.

You do realize we have played 16 games and do not have 1 quality win or shown any life in a game that is not against franklin pierce or southern.

1. Off the ball he might be. Chipola played a lot of zone last year. Morris got caught ball watching multiple times tonight
2. The effort and execution in the first half was pathetic
3. You can't give up 25 points to ANYONE in a half
4. Not a huge factor in the game, Gophers don't really have a shot blocker and are small on the wings
5. That was known coming in. Walker, King, Hollins are all somewhere from slightly below to way below average athletically for B1G starters

My Thoughts

1. Why can the Gophers never, ever be clutch? tOSU makes a tough shot to win the game, and make their freshman makes both FT's in OT. Gophers miss a ft for the lead in regulation, then make numerous weak/nervous plays in overtime. Lawrence Westbrook is the only guy I can remember post Clem who hasn't consistently come up small in big moments.

2. When did Andre Hollins forget how to dribble?

3. Does Mo Walker give us more on the offensive end than he hurts us on the defensive end?

4. Ohio State shot 50.8% from the field en route to their first road win of the season...will the Gophers defense improve past atrocious?

5. Is everyone ready for rebuilding NEXT YEAR after having to endure 3 months of meaningless B1G games this year?

Ditto. If we call a time out we don't have a prayer of getting a good shot off. Our odds were better trying to do something in the open court. Didn't work out.

I agree. I spent a lot of this week ranting about Coach Kill not being aggressive enough, and I like Pitino playing it aggressive there. If I remember right, both of our field goals in overtime game from a guard driving to the basket (and on one occasion getting fouled on the way. I say let the players go at it and try to catch them with their pants down rather than call a timeout and let them organize their defense. I don't blame him for the absurd effort our guard gave with the ball.

If Mason makes both FT's we win in regulation. Very tough loss.

Playing Mason, Konate, and maybe JUJU to get some experience making next year less of a rebuild. The problem is the Seniors (other than MO) really deserve to sit at times. They plane suck at points during the game and should sit to think about things. . Also, Carlos Morris and Buggs really cannot play at this level. They have Athletic ability hat used to work playing in High School but in the B1G, you also need skill and BB intellect. Both players really do not understand the game, especially on defense. I will be shocked if they get any play time next year.

We need a talent upgrade. Mason is the only complete player on the roster. Everyone else has serious deficiencies on one end of the floor or the other. Gotta hope that the freshmen can contribute right away next year.

We really miss Austin Hollins right now. This squad desperately needs a good defender other than Mathieu.

True, we certainly have "defending our NIT Title" to look forward to.

Mason's a superb defender. Squirrel, Hollins, King, and Mo are the ones with problems on that end of the ball. We lack a go-to scorer as well. Makes the loss of Rashad hurt even more.

The goal is to make the tourney. Can you honestly say there are enough wins in the remaining games to do that? Name one notable win this year.

This is why I don't like going on here after losses. We could lose to the #1 team on the road and people here would be furious. I just hope the players don't give up as easily as most on here.

Don't tell me I need to raise expectations either, I expect us to make the NCAA tourney. I just am willing to look at the big picture that we have 15 games left. If we go 7-1 at home, steal a couple on the road, we're in good shape. Not out of the question at all.

It's college basketball, anything can happen. Ole Miss took Kentucky to OT tonight. If we get hot, it wouldn't be out of the question at all to go 10-5

9 and 9 probably won't get us in with our non conference schedule this year. The way they are playing do you actually see 9 wins in the next 15 games?

I have no issue with not calling the TO there. Little Dre should have pulled up for a 3 or gone hard to the basket.

The game was lost when Pitino sat Little Dre the last 6-8 minutes of the first half with 2 fouls. He ended the game with 2 fouls. It was totally unnecessary. If he leaves him in, we're likely down 4-6 at half instead of 12.

No, but teams have gotten hot and done more crazy things before. Just think it's a little early to give up.

What % of teams who start 0-3 in conference make the NCAA tournament? Our next game is at Michigan. What % of teams who start 0-4 make the NCAA tournament. Sorry we can't share your optimism.

YES, we could also lose to Rutgers and Penn State the way we play Defense......as you say, anything can happen. Unless this team improves on D, this is going to be a long ride to the NIT.

Didn't Nebraska do it just last year? Forgot what they started, but it wasn't good.

I'm not saying we won't. Just think halfway through the season is a little premature to be giving up. Crazier things have happened.
