Post Game Thread: Gophers lose heartbreaker to PSU

If any consolation, SB Nation at Black Shoe Diaries offers this:

"And what happened on the field was Penn State running into a rested Minnesota team, coming off a bye, that, realistically, could be 8-2 if not for some self-inflicted wounds earlier in the season (and a screw job by the refs as well). That’s to say this is a Gopher team that is likely better than their 6-5 record, and it showed on the field."

Here's the full read:

Posted earlier that lack of consistent high-level play is our issue. Of course after living in Minnesota for 35 years now, yes, the refs screwed us at times too.

Some day, maybe...

It's not obvious to you?
No it’s not, because it’s not objectively obvious, just subjectively to you. PSU was losing for a majority of the game against BGSU, didn’t exactly dominate or light up the scoreboard on pretty bad UCLA and Wisconsin teams, had to beat a below average USC at the last second, and an “average” Goohers team down to the wire. They lost to OSU at home so they would probably lose worse in Columbus.

There was at least one blatant hold on those plays. Joyner specifically was being grabbed and held.
I’m actually glad that Joyner is moving on. I think that he under performs and I get tired of everybody complaining about him getting held. Made the assertion before he needs to quit putting him in self in positions to be held. People thought that was a stupid comment, but it’s true. All pass rushers get held the good ones work through it and still make plays.

Well, for better, or for worse: the hurring Hoosier brain trust committed 64 million for the next 8 seasons to keep his show in Bloomington. Will his pipeline from his old school keep feeding him enough players to repeat this season when he draws a more challenging conference schedule? And will his funding for NIL purchases of players make Indy a new member of blue-blooded power football elite gurus?
He certainly is a coach full of good, positive, though kind of cocky esteem.

Time will tell.

Maybe he is what some think he is and he says he is!

I thought offering the contract was premature. The timing, I believe it took focus away from the game vs Ohio St. It's more money than they needed to spend. All that and I'm not sure he's the guy for the next 8 years for reasons you stated and more.

Shades of Michigan State hopefully absent the he said she said part of that mess.

you cant kick that many FGs and expect to beat the #4 team in the country

FG drives preceding 3 downs
1st: 1st and 10 run, 2nd and 11 run, 3rd and 9 run
2nd: 1st and 10 run, 2nd and 8 run, 3rd and 3 run
3rd: 1st and goal run, 2nd and goal pass to LT on trick play, 3rd and goal incomplete
Yup

The Flecksters are grasping as straws at this point, Fleck is 7-12 in Power 4 games from last year and this year. This isn't even mediocre results which is our ceiling.
You might as well include his first year and the Covid year since you’re grabbing a random time span to try to make a point.

People are right.

that would be stupid but not surprised coming from you

Good one. He’s 15-7 in P4 games in the two previous years by the way.
It's ok Heather, PJ can be critized without you always coming to stick up for him. He is a man.

Wouldn't you agree the more recent record is more relevant?

Plus didn't you just accuse me of grabbing a random time frame and then you go and do the same thing?

The P4 record only looks bad when you include last year but you look kind of silly to harp on how the team did last year so you included it with this year. I get it it’s fine, you want us all to rip the coach, but the product is obviously improved from last season.
