Post Game Thread: Gophers Are Mayo Bowl Champs!!!! Finish 8-5!!!

Coaching Records - just for the heck of it

Henry Williams - 22 seasons (1900-1921): 136-33-11 (avg 8.2 gms played - 6.2 wins per season)
Bernie Bierman - 16 seasons (1932-41/1945-50): 93-35-6 (avg 8.4 gms played - 5.8 wins per season)
Murray Warmath - 18 seasons (1954-71): 87-78-7 (avg 9.6 gms played - 4.8 wins per season)
Glen Mason - 10 seasons (1997-2006): 64-57 (avg 12.1 gms played - 6.4 wins per season)
PJ Fleck - 8 seasons (2017-24...): 58-39 (avg 12.1 gms played - 7.3 wins per season)

(question - not sure how to account for the ties - not a win and not a loss. counting wins only makes Warmath seem like a .500 coach. anyone have any thoughts?)

**also - during the Williams era, they played as many as 15 games in a season, and as few as 5 games.

***at 7.3 wins/season, Fleck would need to coach 19 seasons to pass Williams for most wins in Gopher history.
A tie counts as 0.5 wins and 0.5 losses. So if your a below .500 team it brings your win % up, and if you're an above .500 team it drags it down.

We bow to your superior knowledge, oh great one.

Look how well your "Keep Ben Johnson" campaign has turned out.
Do you think acting like a prick on a message board makes you cool or something? What a sad existence.

He's decent. Probably not ever going to be WR #1 though
Yeah, Brockington can be a solid #3, maybe a #2 in some situations but he isn't going to be a lead receiver. He is willing to go after the tough catches in traffic as he has taken some shots during his Gopher career.

I'm pretty bummed the coaches didn't give him more touches. I know they see these guys in practice everyday and maybe he didn't earn the reps, but man, he's a big boy and and defenses looked like they had no desire to try to tackle him. I feel like when you get a HB that size, you have to give him some touches just to wear out of the other side and force them to tackle. I think this was his only year of eligibility.
Rumor has it that he got hurt pretty bad after early season games and wasn’t really able to come back until late. But yes, I agree he would have been great to see more of.

I will comment a few things about the season and PJ. I think after that UNC game where they were nonstop trying to run that things changed. He seemed to let that ball control run at all costs thing slip away. I think this is a huge change/growth in his coaching prowess from always Tresselball. You have to be able to pass some in this version of college football and he allowed them to do that this year. Personally I want them to dominate in the trenches and be more run than pass but I really like this years offense and balance after the changes. Hope it continues.

Lots of talented young guys. Yes they lose some studs this year but future looks bright if QB play is decent. Man I wish we had Maxy for another year!

We beat USC and UCLA back to back

We finally beat Bret B

We beat wisconsin at camp.randall and kept them out of a bowl game to end their streak and then we extended our 8 game bowl winning streak.

I give the season a B+.

Loss to UNC sucked as we had that game.

Loss to Iowa was simply them being better than us in the run game.

We got robbed in Michigan.

The Penn State game was so well.played by both teams.

Rutgers was a disaster.

All in all, a very positive season.

The ending of wisconsin's streak almost makes the season an A- all by itself.
Agree except that I think we robbed ourselves at Michigan. Re-watch the first half. The Gophs had the stuff to beat Michigan; but for self-inflicted wounds, it never should have come down to an onsides kick.

Cody’s replacement at MLB in 2025 unless a transfer is brought in?
He looks the part, but they had him playing on the edge mostly. When he got some time last year it was inside so I guess we will have to see. They seemed content Saturday to play Williams along with Maverick for the most part. We certainly need depth and frankly a bit of a talent upgrade for next year either with six and nine continuing to develop or some other options.
