PJ Targeting Ciarrocca for Return as OC?

Now to this thread after posting on the other Kirk thread! Welcome back! I'm hoping for better things next year. Kind of tired of this offense we got right now.

how is that relevant to KC who is NOT their OC?
KC interviewed after 2018 to be WV's OC. Brown (their head coach, then and still now) badly wanted to hire him. They were on the same staff at Delaware, where KC was prior to Rutgers. KC was also the RB coach again at Delaware the year before PJ hired him at WMU (*SHOCK!!!* *HORROR!!!!!*)

So instead, Brown hired a guy who was (and is still for them) a WR coach.

All this, of course, proves that Fleck's weak excuse of supposedly wanting a QB coach to be OC, is pure bunk.

Brown still thought so highly of KC, that when he got scape-goated and thrown out on his ass by Franklin after one covid partial-season and barely any pre-season to install things, he (Brown) offered KC the analyst position because he still wanted him on the staff.

If the spot had been open, guaranteed that KC is WV's OC and would continue to be.

Instead, a great opportunity opened up for KC to come back to Dinkytown, and that is a great thing!

Is there any surprise, in the slightest, about who is going to be the OC for the bowl game, since KC mutually agreed with Fleck and WV not to coach in the bowl game?

Of course there's no surprise. It's the guy on the staff who already did it in the last bowl game, was defacto the OC the last three games of the regular season, and is 100% qualified to be OC now.

Simon

Randy Johnson in the STrib today, wrong again about Sanford's title:

Ciarrocca takes over for Mike Sanford Jr., who was let go last week following two seasons as Gophers co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with primary play-calling duties.

Hey Randy, check this out: it's called the internet! You can look stuff up, and stuff!

Again...still not relevant no matter how much you twist to try and make it sound as such. Good try though!

Now you are being pedantic one post after you blatantly make up that Simon was "DeFacto OC" the last 3 games. Irony...

Welcome back from your Rumspringa, Kirk! We’re glad you chose to return after seeing what life on the outside is like!

The WV coach said today that KC is gone but that they haven't yet figured out how he would figure into the bowl game (presumably because he knows so much about WV's offense and defense). This seemed to be a sticking point with him.

Well at least on Twitter Simon isn't coming across as bitter about not getting the OC job. Still a very good chance that he is more than happy to be a position coach at this point in his career and doesn't want to be an OC. I know that is tough for some to understand but not all position coaches want to be coordinators and not all coordinators want to be head coaches.

Did you graduate with Simon from Farmington or are you related? Simon was on the sideline in his normal role while Sanford called plays over the last three games. Was he more involved and have more say in game plan, probably, but he didn't Coordinate the games from the sideline.

Simon has had every opportunity to walk and find a new job if he feels it is in his best interest.

Waiting to see if CAB and the O-linemen come back that can. Big for us going into next year.

Lots of OC's call plays from the sideline, while getting assistance from someone else in the box.

Silly if you think that physical positioning disproves it.

Based on the Tweet (from Simon himself) that GWG posted in one of these threads, Simon isn't going anywhere. Was welcoming KC back and ready to get back to work winning here.

Seems like he (Simon) genuinely thinks something special is cooking here and wants to give it some number more seasons to see if it takes off.

He is young, and will have ample opportunity, somewhere, to prove what is already known among many coaches nationally and certainly on this staff: he is well qualified to be, and wants to be, an OC.

Not saying CAB wouldn't be a nice piece to get back. Obviously would be.

But WR's were not the problem this year. Scheme/routes/play-calling by Sanford and balls being thrown difficult to uncatchable, were the problems.

Not sure why I want to go down this rabbit hole with you as it's like hitting my head against a brick wall, but Fleck wanting his OC to also be the QB coach is NOT pure bunk. It's just his preference and as head coach you go with what you believe in.
Nobody ever said it was the only way to go, and other versions can obviously work, but this is what Fleck wants.
When you're head of anything, you do it your way as it's your neck on line. Don't fail succumbing to others beliefs if you don't believe in them.
Bottom line, Fleck wants the OC to also be QB coach, so that's the way it is here. BTW, very common practice across college and pro landscape, but you know that already.

It's just his preference
Nah.

It was just a very convenient excuse, for why he hired his buddy Sanford, instead of the much more qualified candidate that had helped us win the Outback bowl against Auburn.

Yeah, right, sure. Oh ... see .... KC never played QB in his life .... but he coaches QB's ..... well, see right there.... yeah ... yeah, yeah .... I have to have the OC be the QB's coach! Makes perfect sense.

The guy who called the outback bowl from the press box with time to prepare was calling plays from the sidelines in the most important games of 2021? Possibly but unlikely.

Seriously put the guy on ignore. It’s done wonders for my wasting of time on here. The guy has the biggest man crush on a WR coach I’ve ever seen

Is PJ going to even be able to coach in the game after targeting?

Don’t you usually get kicked out for that?

Just the first half. By then Gophs will be so far ahead, he might just stay in the locker room for the second half. ;)

This seems to be a tough concept to get a hold of, particularly for those that think they should be company VP's coming out of college, but some people are self-aware and understand the value of paying your dues while you climb the ladder. Understanding if/when you are or are not ready for the next level is a very good quality.

What is your theory as to why Sanford was fired if it was indeed he who called the last three games?

Or perhaps for the last three games the guy sitting in the press box was there for appearances sake and to avoid questions from the press? Could it be the guy in the box was just sending down observations to the guy on the sidelines calling plays?
