Take it for what it's worth folks, but Philip Nelson's sister just wrote on her facebook wall:

"Excited for the baby brosh @philipnelson to officially be a gopher! CONGRATS!"

Philip then commented:

"Thank you sis:)"

I usually don't like when people post about facebook posts and tweets, but I figured since I had seen it I might as well let you all know. Obviously it's not official yet so don't get your hopes up. I'm pretty surprised to see it.

EDIT - Looks like he actually is committed to the Gophers!! I think he's gonna be one hell of a QB for us.

If this is true, f'ing sweet! Welcome Philip!

Keep it up coach Kill!!!

Cpuld it be that Coach Kill's system is more attractive to the young man? Watching film on Chandler Harnish has to get a young mobile QB excited.

This is GREAT news!

I know some people liked Molberg better, but from all accounts this is a great recruiting win for the MN....one that was desperately needed.

Why isn't this getting more attention here!?

First, if he is committed to the Gophers, nice work by coach Kill to go after a top-notch in-state recruit. Let's hope it's not a case where he's taking this offer and waiting for a better offer though.

Wow thats awesome. Now lets see how solid that committment is when the Badgers strike out on their Blue Chip QB offers and come-a-knocking on Philip's door this August. Should be interesting. Hopefully he sticks it out though, I'm sure Kill made it clear he didn't want him to committ if he wasn't 100% sure.

I think some of the response is the concern he is waiting for a becky offer. I think both his parents went to UW and they used to live in Madison. I am glad he accepted offer.

This has happened in the past where a Wisconsin lean commits to us early on than Wisconsin comes in and offers and steals him with no effort. Let's hope this sticks.

Nice, welcome aboard.

He made the trip with his Dad to commit face to face....that sounds pretty solid. Also, this commitment isn't to Brew who seemed to like any commitment to matter how soft for PR purposes (my opinion) & I'd bet it's been made clear that the second he attends another team's camp or takes a recruiting visit somewhere else his Gopher schollie is gone.

Seems like a solid commit. He was supposed to be in Madison for Jr. day next weekend. Obviously he decided to drive up and commit in person, so I don't see any reason he would change his mind now. Locking up the in state players you want early is a good strategy. Kill certainly understands that.

If he did end up going to Wisconsin we could always claim we cooled on him.

That's great news! Welcome, Philip.

And for the obvious question...would Kill consider taking two QB's this year? (Mollberg)

This is a surprise but he does fit into our system much better than Becky's. He probably prefers the opportunity to flourish as a QB and run every once in a while instead of handing off and watching the play 85 times a game

Sheesh people will still take every opportunity they get to make a little poke at Brewster.

Welcome aboard, Mr. Nelson. I am glad you decided to stay home and become a local legend. Hopefully you can someday join the group of other legendary Minnesotans like Bronko Nagurski, the Barbers, Darrell Thompson etc.

Nice to have him aboard. The commitment article also put to rest any worries about a decommit. ;)

Welcome aboard Philip. I'm glad you're a Gopher!

Awesome! I love the job kill is doing with the in-state talent for 2012.

Go Gophs!

I gotta say, Kill's recruiting has really impressed me, especially his instate recruiting. Hopefully he can continue to load up on the 2012 instate guys.

I had gotten word of his commitment earlier today and left him a message. He called me back when he got home. I was just heading out the door for the Lakeville South-Jefferson game, so I'll add the quotes to the story when I get home. He sounds solid on his commitment.

Great situation for the kid

Great coach, great system (see N. Ill and TCU) and being protected by Gjere, the Olsens, et. all. Same Coordinators/system for his 4 years.

Looks to have a decent set of wheels too. Actually reminds me of TCU's Andy Dalton.

Can't wait to see him uncork a long one to a blazing Crawford-Tufts.
