Paul Chryst poised to return to UW as head coach, according to source

Are you white trash?

i'm ok with badgerdoo. at least his chest thump didn't include a gopher put down like another badger visitor

Minnesota currently leads the historic series 59–57–8.

Love this post on ESPN by a Pitt fan in response to a Wisconsin fan saying if you're looking at the 19-19 record at Pitt, you're clueless.

Jeremy Martin
You must have not followed Pitt. They may actually be worse off now than the day he took over. No talent at qb, defense stinks, and the two players that carried them Boyd and Conner will be gone after this next season. You're out of your mind if you think he's a good coach. Don't even get me started on the guys charisma.

Living in Pittsburgh, I haven't heard hardly one good thing - from anyone - about Chryst. That said, I haven't heard much bad about him either. At best, people were semi-excited about his hire, and when the possibility of him bolting for Wisconsin came up, it seemed to draw a big "meh". They have been lamenting the loss of Wannstad as much as anything, and I don't get the impression that losing Chryst is a big deal to Pitt fans.

If Chryst is successful at UW, it'll be because he is an Alvarez buddy/pawn more than his own ability, which isn't bad, but is far from great.

Best defense is a good offense!

Bo could have never done that against a decent team in the Tecmo Bowl playoffs. Who was that, New England, early season (or preseason)? They were terrible in that game.

Surprising that he recruited as well as he did in Pitt and still had little success. That experience could be a great help for recruiting the area to Wisconsin. So we can assume that Barry got the waiver to not have to post the STATE job for 14 days.

The big recruits he got were, to my knowledge, local kids with borderline academics. I'm not saying he did a poor job recruiting. I'm saying that anyone would have gotten most of those same kids to Pitt.

That isn're the example you're going to rely on right?

Getting a 2* QB to the NFL seems pretty compelling to me, but how about these:

*4 QBs that Chryst has either been HC or OC for are in the NFL (Tom Savage, Russell Wilson, Scott Tolzien, Derek Anderson).
*Russell Wilson had a QB rtg of 191.8 his year with Chryst. His previous high in 3 years starting was 147.8
*Here are the team passer ratings of his teams since his first year at Wisconsin:

2014: 27
2013: 36
2012: 26
2011: 2
2010: 6
2009: 20
2008: 71
2007: 43
2006: 18
2005: 12

Seems like a very good OC. I think the big question is if he is a good head coach. I would say from his performance at Pitt, that the jury is still out (at best). It's hard to say though, with Alvarez directing him and helping him, maybe he'll flourish. Or maybe his is the beginning of the end for Badger football. :)

To be fair Tom Savage had played for every OC in FBS by the time he graduated:D

tryn to figur out tis sentance.

When you mock someone's sentence structure, do not:
(a) mock spelling if spelling is correct.
(b) forget to use a subject in your sentence.
Good luck in the future.

White? Yes.

Trash? Don't think so.

Of course you failed to answer my question.

Maybe I used too many big words?

Yeah sorry for the rudeness on here, you came in peace and didn't deserve the crap you're getting in this thread.

As a Gopher fan, I'm happy about the hire because, to me, the best case scenario is that you maintain the status quo, but anything less than that is a net gain imo. It's like playing with house money. And, I don't care about this from a conference strength perspective, unless Wisconsin is willing to omit the Brewster years from their win streak total.

The fact that Pitt fans don't care about the loss is pretty telling imo. You can feel the momentum of the program as a fan, and apparently there isn't much at Pitt. By comparison, if Kill had left after 3 years most of the fan base here would have been irate, just like the NIU fans were when we took him. That means something.

Actually, no harm on the "abuse". This is all fun. As they say, these are all first world problems.

I really believe that Chryst is the perfect guy for the job here. I never liked Bielema and Andersen is just a little off. I suspect he will do well at OSU.

If PC can hire a quality Def coordinator this program will at least maintain status quo and will have a chance to rise to the next level.

Your posting on here so fervently about this topic wreaks of desperation. Bottom line is the MN program has serious momentum right now and the WI program has just lost momentum. Paul Chryst might be a nice guy, and a guy from Wisconsin, but he doesn't have near the head coaching experience and success of Gary Anderson or Jerry Kill. You are what your record says you are after 3 years at a program. He didn't inherit anywhere near the mess Kill did. So keep trying to convince yourself he's better than Andersen and we'll see what happens in Minneapolis next fall. I'd love to see WI play Oregon State anytime in the next 5 years. I got a dollar Oregon State is better than WI.

"Wreaks of desperation"?

Like I said. First world problems. Wisconsin could shut its football program down and I wouldn't even approach a feeling of desperation. It's a game people. Chill.

Here is a good article on Chryst and the Wisconsin perspective on the hire.

I have to caution some of you though. Lots of big words.;)

But Chryst is perfect for the UW job not only because he has a working knowledge of the program but because of what he brings as a coach. If the three seasons since he left his job as UW’s offensive coordinator have shown us anything, it is the Badgers missed his fertile offensive mind, his ability to get the most out of his assistants and his knack for developing quarterbacks. By layering an NFL-style passing game over UW’s traditional ground-and-pound running game, Chryst created one of the nation’s most productive offenses.

I’ve said this before, but Chryst’s game plan for Alvarez’s final game as a full-time coach — a 24-10 win over Auburn in the 2006 Capital One Bowl — should be bronzed and hung in the football offices. And the 42.9 points per game the Badgers averaged during the 2010 and 2011 seasons stick out of the UW history books like a sore thumb.

In the four seasons prior to the current one, Chryst coached four quarterbacks — Scott Tolzien and Russell Wilson at UW, Tino Sunseri and Tom Savage at Pitt. Three of the four are in the NFL and the fourth (Sunseri) is playing in the CFL. That’s important, given that shaky quarterback play and questionable quarterback decisions have held UW back in the three seasons since Chryst left.

Pitt had only a 19-19 record under Chryst, but don’t read too much into that because the program was a train wreck when he took over. He was the fifth coach —including interims — at the school in 13 months.

Chryst has the credentials to coach at UW. Time will tell if how successful his reign will be.

What I don't like is that Chryst doesn't really bug me. That should be a requirement for a Wisconsin coach. Alvarez, Bielema, yep, prime time. Even mild mannered Andersen was working on annoying me with his antics of hiding the axe. Chryst? Milquetoast!

Oh, I get it alright.

There is no argument whether or not Wisconsin does suck. It does. You think this witty banter that you are providing is all in "fun"? I am not sure you want to go there. Quit while you are behind. There is nothing worse than a sconnie skunk. Lol.

If the Badgers hired God as their football coach, doom and gloom and the downfall of the program woukd be predicted on this board.

Who knows how Chryst will do, but the hire makes a lot of sense for many reasons. It is fumny how all the Gophers insiders on this board know exactly what Alvarez does in his AD job at Wisconsin. I am going to come over here more often so I can get the scoop.

Who knows, Chryst may even be the first Badgers coach to lose to the Gophers in over a decade.

I wouldn't take the job. On another note, stop looking at child porn.

You, my friend are one impressive representative of gophernation. I especially love the anonymous internet threat. Awesome.

Keep on posting about this on the Gopher fan forum docbadger, yes, you get our approval, Paul Chryst is a great coach, and perfect for the badgers! I, for one, can't wait for him to start.

You are saying the stuff that gets us made fun of for doing "Silly Season" each year for the last 20 years.

Until we actually beat Wisconsin, just please stop.

I do get pretty sad when wisconsin fans make fun of us ...

Who cares what they think? We have every right to be optimistic about the Gophers and hate the Badgers and we should. They have every right to and should feel the same. It's a rivalry.
