During halftime tonight, Patrick Reusse took to twitter to tweet that Rashad Vaughn and Tyus Jones have both taken Minnesota off of their lists. This was a complete lie.

There was big backlash, as people had taken him seriously since he is a reporter for a credible MN media source.

Not only that, but he insulted gopher fans in his next tweets telling the Gopher fans to shut up and sit on their handsand some other bs.

He also started talking back to Tyus Jones and was quick to talk back to Tyus, who btw remember... Is a HS kid when Tyus told Reusse that the information was false.

Reusse deserved to be fired, and I know many people agree!

Do you have the tweets?

The Twitter exchange

Patrick Reusse ‏@1500ESPN_Reusse
Tyus Jones & Rashad Vaughn both announced at halftime that University of Minnesota is off their lists.

Tyus Jones ‏@Tyusjones06
@1500ESPN_Reusse you have incorrect information sir..

Patrick Reusse ‏@1500ESPN_Reusse
Thank, god. You weren't watching. @Tyusjones06 You have incorrect information, sir.

This so called Journalist just about gave half of Minnesota heart attacks,

actual reporters took him seriously, here is a Chip Miller tweet, a writer who covers UK, a real journalist unlike the clown we have here in Minnesota

Chip Miller ‏@UKBIGBLUENATION
According to @1500ESPN_Reusse, 2014 Kentucky targets Tyus Jones and Rashad Vaughn announced at halftime that Minnesota is off their lists.

and many other people thought the same thing, I mean why wouldn't they, the guy is supposed to be a reporter and report things, and what about this tweet he had during the game? bashing the fan base that listens to him? smart move idiot

Patrick Reusse ‏@1500ESPN_Reusse
Dear Gopher fans: Shut up and sit on your hands. You're embarrassing yourselves cheering this travesty.

Tyus did the right thing by trying to deny the report and try to calm everyone down and clean up the mess Reusse made, the kid has class unlike Reusse

Did someone fall off the wagon?

I normally don't root for people to lose their jobs, but it's hard not to with him. It would be his own fault. Spreading false information like that gives the media outlet you work for a bad name. If I was his boss I wouldn't be happy about that.

I was starting to not hate Ruesse as much as I used to, but I'm right back to hating him as a writer. It's simply unacceptable for anyone to tweet that that considers themselves a member of the media. If I'm Tubby, I'm having a word with him and telling him to stop making stuff up about his recruits. AND ESPECIALLY NOT TALKING SMACK TO THEM ON TWITTER!

It was a feeble attempt to try and be funny. I commend Tyus for how he handled it. I like it when kids are respectful and use terms like "sir", even if the subject certainly isn't worthy of the title.

I really don't think it would have been an idea if he had said "I wouldn't be surprised if..." or if he had tweeted shortly after explaining that it was a joke but to just let it sit out there as if it is actual news is really inappropriate.

I remember someone posted an article from him showing that he was warming up to the gophers and a lot of us said that he was just setting them up to bash them later on, I was in that camp, but I thought it would take more than just a bad half, figured at least a loss before goes back to his old ways. I had very little respect for this guy before this, but whatever respect had for him as writer before is all gone after this. The worst part was his tweet bashing the fans for rooting for the gophers. I'm sorry but must have the worst writers in all of the sports markets out there. Like Sid, he asked Trevor what his gpa was, come on now, there are some things that you don't ask that is one of them. Why are we stuck with these jokes.

Again, you grow up a fat, not so handsome kid in a mortuary with an alcoholic father and there's a good chance you have issues. Wants to be noticed above anything else. Wanting respect is secondary. (Geez, my second foray into psychology today. Gotta watch it.)

I bought it for about two seconds then I remembered seeing Rashad front row on TV behind Tubby. No way a kid goes out like that. Reusse is such a sleez; he would do anything for more attention. The stupidest part about that whole thing is that he didn't even start watching the game until it was 15-13 with 1 minute left in the 1st (as one of his older tweets indicates). The first half was awful but still he could have at least watched the first half before commenting on it.

This worthless blob of human waste doesn't get it and this exchange is exactly why everyone should hate him.

His point, that he was trying to make, was that the game was so sloppy that it turned off the recruits (sarcasm) and that the Gopher fans shouldn't be cheering for this team tonight. Shouldn't this be proof to the people that don't loathe this miserable idiot that NOTHING would be good enough for them to stop with the snide remarks? We are the #9 team in the country and we were on our way to winning our second Big 10 game to improve to 14-1. It was sloppy...yes, but people shouldn't cheer? Isn't this the same blob that always points out the problems with Gopher football attendance? So rip on Gopher football attendance, but rip on Gopher basketball fans for cheering for a top 10 team in a sloppy game? D'ok!

He's an idiot, he's supposed to be a journalist and he still doesn't understand the proper use of a comma. I feel bad for his editor having to sift through the butter stained rough drafts he jots together on the back of some Double Cheeseburger wrapper.

I really don't think it would have been an idea if he had said "I wouldn't be surprised if..." or if he had tweeted shortly after explaining that it was a joke but to just let it sit out there as if it is actual news is really inappropriate.

He wants hits and people to retweet him so he can then chastise them for not picking up sarcasm over twitter. It's all about clicks for this guy, it has nothing to do with content.

It's too bad that there isn't an easy way to put a <sarcasm> sign on Twitter...

When I read Reusse's tweet

Tyus Jones & Rashad Vaughn both announced at halftime that University of Minnesota is off their lists.

I could hear the sarcasm in his voice, but obviously that didn't come across to most people. Hindsight should tell him that the snide humor went past most people and a quick apology would be in order. We'll see if Reusse does that or not.

That being said, the display of offensive futility by the Gophers in that first half was pretty brutal. Tubby should be thanking Austin Hollins and Trevor Mbakwe for keeping Vaughn in the building because if all Vaughn went on was that first half...we'd never see him again. Thankfully there is more to recruiting than one half of basketball. Every ball player has been involved in a brutal half at one point in his playing days.

Reusse screwed up, but I get his sarcastic humor so it doesn't really bother me. Unfortunately you can't really convey that type of humor on Twitter.

He also told Gopher fans to shut up and sit on their hands. Said it was embarrassing that we were cheering for the team. No sarcasm there, just being a jack@ss.

Patrick, you lead a sad life. Go get a hobby.

When Gopher hockey beat BC 8-1 recently, he told his guy on the radio to only play the BC goal inthe highlight section. He thought that was funny. He and Souch think practical jokes are a riot. To quote Souch, that's not funny. These guys (fatty,Max, Souch et all) make sports their career then they make fun of anyone who is a fan (those rubes). What a bunch of idiots.

This^^^

The internet isn't killing Journalism like the media likes to claim, its so called journalists like Reusse that are killing it, the internet just gives us an out. I have to steam news on the internet from France and England just to get quality unbaised news.

I don't understand why this seems to be the norm with the sports media in this state. Turn on KFAN and you'll hear almost nothing but negativity from any show other than Paul Allen. I don't think it's like this elsewhere, I just really don't get it. It's just constant condescending crap towards fans and it gets really old.

I still don't buy that Reusse "hates" Minnesota, but I have a major issue with this tweet. Why is it ok for an adult (much less a sports journalist with some power) to knowingly spread false information that could lead to a backlash against a high school kid? If Patrick wanted to make a joke about the Gophers first half performance that is fine, but to involve high school kids in it is ridiculous. It's not funny, it's some sort of mixture of sad and strange.

This is really bad of Reusse. Classless and extremely unprofessional. I can't believe some still like the guys writing.

Looks like just another way to say, "wow, this is some ugly, ugly basketball."

I'm with EG9 on this - if it is a joke, there needs to be some indication of that. Either a follow-up or wink, something. To send out a line, but because you think it is clear it's not true, give no indication it's a joke is irresponsible at best. That only works when it is clearly untrue: "Obama to play for Chicago Bulls in playoffs". And to do your whole "funny routine" with high school kids as the subject is way out of line.

To the point that I would look for a formal reprimand. Not talking firing or suspension, but a formal admonishment from the Star Tribune. Guess I still live in dreamland.

Embarrassing.

Haha are you defending what this guy wrote? Somehow other writers read it and picked out a completely different meaning... That Tyus and Rashad acutally did drop Minny from their lists. How could they possibly thought that?! I respect your contributions to the site but try to keep your troll comments to yourself.

After casually listening to Reusse (the most recent time being in the evening after the gophs/state game) and hearing the Reusse tell of his neverending love of the NFL and its superiority over all other sports, I have to say I'm not impressed. Its almost like he is pissed when he has to cover anything else.

Quick, what's the antonym to journalistic integrity?

If you guessed Patrick Reusse, you are correct!

I also agree. To me, this was Reusse doing his usual "look at me! Aren't I clever and funny!" and before he knew what had happened, it blew up in his face. To take after the fans for cheering the team was just a case of being butthurt about getting the blowback that he richly deserved for such a stupid statement imo. Not really all that surprising. It's how Reusse rolls. Don't expect any type of disciplinary action from the Strib however. They like writers who make fools of themselves on a regular basis.

Reusse is hitting the bottle again. Recovering alchoholics are not supposed to be drinking at all Pat! Get your ass back into treatment! BTW, Your reporting really sucks! Go Gophers!!
