Other Bowl Games Thread!!

From the NCAA rulebook "Feigning an injury for any reason is unethical. An injured player must
be given full protection under the rules, but feigning injury is dishonest,
unsportsmanlike and contrary to the spirit of the rules. Such tactics
cannot be tolerated among sportsmen of integrity."

So you agree with me that it isn't illegal. Just frowned upon

Can we work 'lack of institutional control' in there somewhere?

Wow, if Oklahoma holds on and FSU dispatches Auburn the Spartans will end the season ranked #2.

I think Michigan St. ends up #2 no matter what if Alabama loses.

Oh look, they're going to dump the Gatorade on the coach. How clever.

WTF

By the way, why the hell do they have the Cotton and Orange Bowl on at the same times tomorrow? I'm surprised they even allow other bowl games to be on at the same time as the BCS games, even if they are on different networks.

I was thinking the same last nite. Right after the Rose Bowl is supposed to be the Orange Bowl with the big time halftime show.

The Gatorade is so old and so juvenile. Has evolution of mankind ceased? And why is God on the winner's side always?

BTW keep off my lawn.:cool02:

In other words, unsportsmanlike conduct. It's just hard to prove.

As rodent rampage pointed out, I would call it unsportsmanlike conduct. Regardless, there is some conduct that I think is cheating regardless of whether there is an explicit rule against it. I would put conduct which the rules commttee labeled as "contrary to the spirit of the rules" which "cannot be tolerated" in that category. If I signed up for a recreational softball league, and the other team bribed an ump before a game, I would consider that cheating even if nobody had bothered to write down an explicit prohibitiion against it. When players take a provision of the rules designed to protect players (injury timeouts) and through dishonesty induce the officials into invoking that rule in a situation where, by the letter of the rule, it should not be invoked (it says play may be stopped for an injured player, not for a player pretending to be injured), I put that in the same category.

If the Gophers did this kind of stuff, and it was systemic like it seems to be with LSU, I would call the ticket office, ask for a refund, and certainly not renew my tickets. With the well-documented struggles of our program, I have spent plenty of money watching bad teams (and I would do it again), but I would have no stomach for watching dishonest ones.

There are two things you can always control in sports, your effort level and your integrity. It hurts to see young players like LSU's so willing to throw away their integrity the way they were in front of such a large audience. Their conduct was disgusting, and detrimental to the notion of fair play. I hope to heck that there is not a coach trying to convince these young men to do this.

Methinks Luke Fickell will be history as a coach for tOSU in the not too distant future.

Buckeyes need to get some points this drive.

Anyone know why they took the Oklahoma St. interception for a TD off the board? I saw the play, turned it to the other game and turned it back to see it is still 24-24.

Pass interference.

I don't know, but the next time Matt Millen calls someone a "Hurtin' buckaroo", I think I might lose it.

Wow, watching some of these quarterbacks play makes me realize we have got some work to do.

I know I've seen plays that look more like a catch that are overturned than that play. I'm shocked it wasn't reviewed at least.

You r correct sir! I really think I would like to see Donahvan Jones get another good look at QB. His speed and quickness would be a great asset. Can he make the passes though???

I hope that ESPN had the timeout count wrong at the end of the game. It showed OSU with 2 remaining. They could have at least forced a punt at the end. It's not much, but it's better than conceding.

Next year, every bowl game except the Sun Bowl (which remains with CBS) will be controlled from a TV aspect by ESPN/ABC. This is the last year that Fox has the Cotton Bowl which was the remaining holdout. I suspect Fox decided to try and stick it to ESPN one last time where they had the chance.

It's not good when anything is controlled by a single entity. I wonder if this could fall under the umbrella of the anti-trust laws.

Sherman here.....where's Peabody?

I saw that too. They could have gotten the ball back with about 20-25 seconds left if they really did have two timeouts left.

Edit: A quick search found that OSU had just one timeout left. The tv screen was wrong.

I'd still use the last timeout and make them snap it one more time. Maybe that's being a little ridiculous, but even if it's 1 in a million they fumble it's still worth a shot.

The Vandy-Houston game is a pretty fun game. Vandy was up 24-0 at the half and Houston has scored 24 in the 3rd quarter to tie the game!
