Other Bowl Games Thread!!

So, 1 win is a New Year's day massacre, but 2 wins saves it for the B10?

2-2 looks a heck of lot better than 1 - 3. Especially when you consider that MSU is ranked over Stanford. MSU loses the Rose Bowl, it just reinforces the belief that the Big 10 is a weak conference.

LSU had their QB take the snap and then just stand there with the ball to run out the clock several plays in a row, then their fans get offended when Iowa has the audacity to actually tackle him.

Yeah, I hate that whole thing. It's kinda an unwritten rule in football that when a team is taking a knee, the defense doesn't fire off the ball like they normally do. Remember how mad the Giants got a few years ago when Schiano and the Bucs did that? But then for some reason it is okay for the offense to do what LSU did today.

I think if there is time on the clock, then you're still playing a frickin football game. If you don't want to get hit, then stay on the sideline.

Can someone explain to me why that was intentional grounding by Cook at the end of the half? I get that he didn't get it to the line of scrimmage but wasn't he hit by the defender and that caused the throw to be short?

Cook was being spun around by a Stanford defensive player, and the ball was short. I don't know it that should override the call or not.

The Big Ten needs bowl wins period. The Big Ten and all it's members need some cred.

This includes Wisconsin and Iowa.

I would think if they felt the hit caused the throw to be affected, then it shouldn't be intentional grounding. If they still say it is, then shouldn't it be called when a QB is hit when he is throwing and the ball goes right into the ground? Just didn't make sense to me, unless they felt the hit didn't affect his throw. In that case, I think they were wrong.

Why does it seem that when there is an injury, the tv broadcast always waits until the player gets up before going to commercial?

Finally a Rose Bowl win.

Next year we drop Mich St from our schedule and add OSU. Maybe not a bad trade?

Please get rid of the Gatorade bath.

Way to go State. Bit of redemption for the B1G ! Dantonio is a great coach. For folks who say Minnesota can never compete on that level look back at the record. At one point MSU was coached by a man named Muddy Waters.

Fun game to watch. After the first quarter, Michigan St. really dominated.

Musburger did remind me of what will be our bad luck. When we finally win the BT championship again, it will be a year in which the Rose will be a semifinal game and we won't be in the top 4. Anyone know what happens in that situation. Would we go to one of the other big bowls?

The big ten champ not always but usually is in the top 4

Before this year with Michigan St., the last time the Big Ten champ was rated in the top 4 going into the bowl games was 2007 when Ohio St. played in the NC.

A shout out to UMichigan/ESPN idiot Desmond Howard for his great prediction. Pre-game and halftime, he said Stanford would win going away, at least by 17 points. No agenda there, Desmond?

Hey Desmond, how's that Wolverine program doing?

And did anyone notice Brent's final salvo before he left the air?

"Hail" to the Spartans. ... clearly a shot at a certain song/school known for "Hail to the Victors."

The players faking injuries for LSU were just disgusting. I cannot believe those guys had such little integrity that they are willing to cheat on national television like that.

It's not cheating. It's using the rules to your advantage. High school coaches including Mike Grant do it in close games. NFL teams do it. College teams do it.

Why don't they make a rule that you must sit out 3 plays when you come out for an injury. Missing one play currently is little disincentive.

From the NCAA rulebook "Feigning an injury for any reason is unethical. An injured player must
be given full protection under the rules, but feigning injury is dishonest,
unsportsmanlike and contrary to the spirit of the rules. Such tactics
cannot be tolerated among sportsmen of integrity."

Yes, for "player safety." You sit for the next three consecutive snaps of your team or a total of 5 minutes of actual clock time so the trainers can appropriately assess injury and decide if you are able to rejoin the game without exacerbating your injury. Of course, this doesn't prevent scrubs from subbing in for a play and then falling down with a cramp, but it does stop crap like this:

Didn't see a Badger thread, but what the heck was Andersen doing on those final drives down 10? Gordon and White are eating up huge chunks on the ground, so what does he call, passes with the back-up QB (who is not a particularly good passer). You have to score once before you worry about scoring twice and for the life of me, I can't figure out why Andersen pretty much abandoned the running game, especially on the 4th and 1 that resulted in the helmet carom interception. Had to laugh at the announcer on the intercepted pass that was intended for Pedersen when he contended that Pedersen was open. Pedersen was open if Aaron Rodgers were throwing, but not for any other QB who plays anywhere else in Wisconsin.

Was the B1G favored in any of it's games yesterday? I thought the day was a success, based on the perception of the strength of the SEC and PAC. Iowa & Wisc certainly were not overmatched. As a Gopher fan, I think this bodes well for us next year when we are in the mix.

Wisconsin was favored, IIRC

Wisconsin was favored, IIRC

Yeah, Wisconsin was favored by 2.

Iowa (+7.5) covered, while Nebraska (+8.5) and Michigan State (+6.5) won straight-up as underdogs. Ohio State is a 3-point favorite vs. Clemson.
