Other Bowl Games Thread

Duke looks terrible. Ole Miss doesn't even have to throw the ball downfield. Just a swing pass or a quick receiver screen picks up seven or eight everytime. Duke has done nothing to stop it.
Duke is playing the backup team. Bowls are pretty meaningless

It’s fun bama and South Carolina lost but the bowl are pretty meaningless

Are you sure they are meaningless.....I mean according to the SEC it just means more.....would assume that applies to bowls as well :)

It looked like from the outset, Kiffin was absolutely determineed to destroy a Duke team that had lost its QB and starting RB to the portal prior to the bowl to somehow vindicate SEC superiority. Why the Mississippi starters were even in the game when they were up by 30+ points in the 4th quarter is beyond me.

Was a perfect opportunity to get some playing time for guys that might help next year.

Come on fellas you know that PJ does the same exact thing he plays his starters to the bitter end.
Fleck had his starting QB throwing up 31 with under 2 minutes left?

The Gophers had their backups in on offense against Maryland while up 25 with a little over 2 minutes left so no he doesn't do the same thing.

Fleck could have absolutely buried Kill's NMSU team when they came to town a couple of years ago, but he put on the breaks.

I suppose one can argue that he had Lindsey throwing late in the Rhode Island game, but the Gophers last score in the Maryland game was a 51-yard run by Darius Taylor on the first play of the 4th quarter. Brosmer completed the two short passes he threw at a drive later in the 4th quarter, but those weren't down-the-field throws like Dart was throwing last night.

Perhaps if Lane was a better coach his talented roster would not have underachieved and lost at home to Kentucky and to two mediocre LSU and Florida teams

Nobody plays starters later in the game that’s out of hand than PJ. I don’t condone the long pass by Ole Miss (doesn’t cause me angst either) but having their starters in there is right out of PJs handbook.

He keeps players in longer than most would like, I agree. But to say he keeps starters in longer than anyone else is inaccurate. The Ole Miss game last night alone proves you wrong.

Really? How about this instead– – Hardly any college coaches… Instead of Nobody…

In the appetizer bowl game before the Mayo bowl, North Texas is starting a QB vs Texas St. who’s last start at QB was as a freshman on the B team in high school.

I saw that too. So what is he even doing on this team? Athlete and they lost all of their other quarterbacks?

Really depends. Many leave starters in in the early season to get reps and build the conditioning for a whole game.

I've never really questioned PJ leaving guys in too long. He also has to balance if the player is going to get anything out of the experience.

I would guess that most teams don't give a bunch of reps to the back ups in game prep. That plays a role. Also if your opponent leaves starters in, you likely aren't going to put your backups into that situation.

5 games this year were decided by 3+ possessions. 3 of them were in the first 4 games.
He played Lindsey in the Rhode Island game. One was a loss to Iowa. Maryland was probably the other game Lindsey could have played. WI didn't present putting him in.

2023
Had 5 games that were 3+ scores but our QB room was much different that year.

2022
7 games. PJ played all 3 QB's in 3 of first 4.

Singleton was running the ball for PSU with 7min left up 28 vs SMU. The OSU starters were still in vs Oregon up 20 with under 3 min left and their defensive starters until the last run with 20 seconds left. College coaches do weird shit like this all the time (same as the NFL). Think we notice it more with our backs that get high usage in games vs directional schools.

I think that’s just kind of bad decision making, I don’t think Fleck leaves guys in to run up the score. He just is being overly risk adverse I guess.

I have that jackhole on ignore, but I can see where the it’s going.

Apparently, they have not seen Indiana play this season.
