Other Bowl Games Thread

Well Cinderella went 0-6 in the CFP. Every game from here on out is a blue blood.

I wonder if the ESPN echo chamber media machine will go after the controversy of that non-call targeting with the same vigor they went after Indiana’s right to be in the playoff?

I don't even hate the call. Get some pressure and force a quick throw. Not sure how two d-backs let a guy get that wide open behind them.
Disagree when it’s 13 yards. When you let your DBs guard them 1 on 1 you open it up to get beat badly like what happened. WRs have a greater chance to win.

Winner of OSU/Oregon will be at least a touchdown favorite over Texas.
i would guess not. Early lines are offered all over.

No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 5 Texas

COTTON BOWL: 7:30 pm ET, Jan. 10 in Arlington, TX. (ESPN)

Point spread: Texas -1.5

Over/Under: 54.5

This projected matchup would have the unbeaten Oregon Ducks get through the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl to advance to the semifinals. They’d meet a Texas Longhorns team that took care of business against Arizona State. With that, the stage would be set for one of the most anticipated games throughout the entire College Football Playoff. According to the oddsmakers, this would be a close one but the Longhorns would actually enter as a slight favorite.

No. 8 Ohio State vs. No. 5 Texas

Over/Under: 51.5

Ohio State came up just shy of beating the Oregon Ducks in the regular season. So, it’s not hard to imagine the Buckeyes getting through the Ducks this time. In this scenario, they’d be playing the Texas Longhorns in an exciting matchup. Both sides are among the most talented rosters in all of college football. So, it’s not a surprise that the oddsmakers have this as a very close game.

thought it's a good call but #2 on the backend not connected/watching with eyes in the backfield. if he backpedals into the deep zone, it's over but he sat on the flat/cross
I agree it was a good gamble as rushing 3 would’ve just allowed Ewers to sit there and find someone open. When the blitz didn’t get home immediately I knew it was going to be bad, but not that bad. The DBs should have been told not to even look in the backfield, just stay with the WR. Worst case they’re close enough to tackle him and get a PI and live to fight another play, but they weren’t even close enough to get a hand on him.

ASU inability to score in red zone for first 3 quarters did them in more than that targeting call which I agree should've been called

Dang

Great game regardless of outcome. They get OSU or Oregon next and that ain’t gonna be pretty.
Texas fans don't have much to brag about. They won the game in the first three min and then hung on by their fingernails in the 4th Qtr. The stats reflect that:

Yeah, ultimately Texas made more plays. ASU should have won by a couple FGs or more. Absolutely brutal 98 Vikings event for their fans, I’m sure.

hard to say that given TX missed 2 late FGs as well. that 4th and 13 will feel haunting though as the play, but they didn't blow a lead like MN did.

oregon looking like they're really not happy they drew OSU in the quarters. They have all the rust showing from not playing and are getting torched

I’ve never believed in officials being conference-biased, but that non-call sure smelled of SEC-favoritism.
I think it’s more of a case of not wanting a targeting call to “decide” the game than it is SEC/Texas bias.

Don’t get me wrong it’s BS either way, but I don’t think it’s a favoritism thing.

jeremiah smith. good at football. day not just forcing plays to him all year continues to be baffling

There’s a middle ground between rushing 3 and rushing 6.
