Other Bowl Games Thread

BSU was so overrated. They would have been a middle of the road team if they played in the B10.
I watched the first half, didn't watch a lot of the second half, but did come back for the last few minutes. I didn't see Jeanty's big second half, but based on his play in the first half, I wasn't that impressed.

I thought Penn State could have manhandled them if they had just run straight at them between the tackles, but as others have said, Franklin (and he's not alone from what I've watched at botht the college and pro levels this season) thought he had to run wide with reverses and those plays don't tend to work the way they used to. I was impressed with Boise State's active defense.

Allar is like so many Penn State QBs of the past. All the physical talent is there, but there just seems to be something missing in his game. Throws a very nice long ball.

Boise State has a decent team and deserved to be in the CFP given the current layout, but it would be interesting to see how they would measure up if they were in a stronger conference.

It's a mid tier bowl game that no one will remember a few days from now. No use in playing for OT in a glorified scrimmage with a bunch of backups. Going for 2 was the right call.
I agree - wasn’t it Navy-OU that was the same? OU decided to go for 2 rather than tie it up after a regulation ending TD. I agree not playing for OT in non-playoff bowl games. If it does go to OT they should limit it to 2OT and call it a tie.

They should do that for regular season games too.

A tie is a fairer datapoint than a W-L if the game was decided on a two point conversion off.

This is why the NHL gives a point for overtime/shootout losses

On the whole Illinois/SC fiasco, I've grown to like Bert over the years since he left WI. He's a douche, but he's a good coach. All sports need a different character to liven things up (RIP Mike Leach) and I find most of Berts trolling and douchery funny. If you let it get under your skin, then he has you exactly where he wants you.

He only really had a problem with Brewster here and Brew deserved it. It's obvious he has respect for both Kill and PJ and vice versa. I'm just really happy we beat finally him.

Bert’s explanation of the “taunt” was very interesting. And actually makes it seem like the biggest losers are definitely Shane Beamer and the announcers who labeled it a taunt instantly rather than catching the nuance of the game.

But that’s only true if you believe Beilema

don't know if this was touched on earlier in the thread -

but I was reading an article talking about Cam Ward sitting out the 2nd half of his bowl game.

the article made a couple of good points -

last year, in non-playoff bowl games, Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye all opted out of their games.

and based on a list of top draft prospects last year, of players who were not in playoff games, only 5 of the top 16 prospects played in their bowl games.

at least Cam Ward played in the first half. and it's not his fault that the backup QB didn't play well.
-----

also - saw a note that the BYU- Colorado game pulled an 8.0 TV rating. that is the highest rating for a non-playoff game since 2020.

I mean it’s a taunt regardless of how you regard his words even if he’s doing it because Beamer was whining like a child

His explanation was that it wasn’t even about subbing: it was about their guy signaling the cross like he was going to take a touchback and then not taking a touchback and a player getting injured on the play.

Even if they agreed on that’s what it was (Beamer also said it was what was discussed later), you just don’t do that at that time in the game when it’s been going on. Beamer is a child but Bert knew full well it was going to get under his skin. You don’t gesticulate like that walking across the field. Bielema is a smart guy and the fact you saw him laughing on the sideline after s car had to burn the TO he knew he was massively in Beamer head

Exactly. I get it now. The kickoff receiver put his hands out to side to indicate they weren't going to catch or return kick-off and then caught it and threw the lateral across the field. Read that in Athletic too, I think it was. Bert was making that signal to Beamer and bench.
Legal but kind of a douche, deception play. The old unwritten rules thing.

Skat time = 💩 on Texas 🤞

Skattebo. Made me think of Shannon Brooks, kind of an unimpressive-looking player coming off the bus, punishing, aggressive, angry style with great feet and YAC. I wonder if he can get loose at all versus Texas or they shut him down. I’m still holding out hope for Cinderella 🕛

loved watching brooks run the ball. was too bad he wound up with so many injuries throughout his career

clock looks a little quick for levitt. lots of pressure early but a good first drive.

Edit: and yeah that's what I'd expect will be there for TX all day

100% a missed blindside block on TX on that return. i get the game is happening fast, but the guy gets exploded right at the point of attack on the return

I predicted after the conference championships that ASU would get rolled by whomever they played. Well, they better show something here or it will be ugly. I actually don't think they'll get to 14 points, so I think the game is over But we'll see.

Thought this would end up like 56-17, but didn't think it would potentially get there this quickly. gotta stop drive for ASU

asu trying to run on every first down is not going to be a recipe for success. get you want to try keep it manageable but you literally got the blue print on how to beat Texas's defense last week from Clemson. Leavitt throws a good ball. he's the one who has to win this game as TX is too good up front for ASU
