Indiana defeated Penn State 75-60 with a fourth quarter surge. For the visiting Hoosiers Striplin was 12-12 for 27 points and Garzon 6-10 from three for 22 points

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 23-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team opened the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run and outscored Northwestern, 20-10, in the final stanza to rally for a 60-54 victory over the Wildcats on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 8) at Crisler Center.

With Michigan down four points entering the final period, Olivia Olson scored the first seven points of the fourth to push Michigan ahead, 48-44. Following a Northwestern timeout after Olson hit a three-pointer with 6:45 remaining, Jordan Hobbs found Syla Swords for a layup and a 50-44 U-M lead.

The Wildcats answered, scoring nine of the next 11 points for a 53-52 lead with 3:36 on the clock. Hobbs took over from there, accounting for Michigan's next six points on a trio of acrobatic layups for a 58-54 U-M lead at the 2:21 mark. Mila Holloway put the game away with a step-back jumper at the free-throw line with 26 seconds remaining to account for the 60-54 margin.

Olson led the Wolverines offensively, going for 18 points and six rebounds in 36 minutes of action

PSU didn't make it easy for Iowa at Happy Valley. Iowa led 38-36 at halftime, and it was tied at 55-all after three quarters before the Hawkeyes pulled away in the fourth by making six straight shots—and nine of their last 12. The Hawkeyes shot 65% from the field in the fourth quarter, making 11 of 17 shots. As a result, Iowa beat PSU 80-68.

Amazes me the rotation Iowa still has playing 10 players double digits in minutes with game being close all long until later in the 4th. Have to think the freshness of players might have a factor in that. Gophers only had 7 players in double digits minutes and struggled in the 4th Quarter. Only 7 even with Penn State although few more got 5ish minutes.

As the big 10 season is long, be interesting to see if Coach P can trust the bench a little more to keep players fresh through the 4th quarter. Against Penn State players proved they can still perform as high level level with GG only getting 18 minutes in that game. Not saying GG should be at 18 minutes a game, but playing 40 minutes is tough for anyone or maybe healthiest for the team?

GG was in foul trouble in that game as well.. hence only 18 minutes.. think she ended up with 4 fouls.. but 2 early on in the 1st half..

but yeah not having Woodson hurts the depth as she was getting solid minutes.. but agree hopefully Dawn willl learn to trust her bench, so Battle, Heyer, GG and Tori can be fresher in the 4th.

Iowa is still discombobulated and trying to figure out their rotations. Will be interesting to see how they are when they arrive in Williams in February. Their 4 freshman getting minutes seem very inconsistent game-to-game. None of their freshman are performing as well as McKinney.

Not a B1G game but Minnesotans Jenna Johnson and Gianna Kneepkens lead Utah at Iowa State at 5:30 this afternoon on ESPN2.

Duluth's Gianna Kneepkens certainly turned into a recruiting coup for the Utes. Was first team all-Pac-12 each year and will be first team All-Big 12 in her new league. Kneepkens is 18 pts and 44% from three and 93% from the line. Wasn't like she "grew" into a P5 player, she was freshman of the year and all made all-Pac-12 first team as a freshman. Sort of got lost in Pac-12's lack of TV and all but, man, I'd love to have had her as a Gopher or Cyclone. Best I can tell ISU never even recruited her.

Every time I see the name Jenna Johnson I think if she had just made her free throws the whole Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark drama might have been avoided. In the 2023 NCAA tourney Johnson missed 2 free throws against LSU with 4 seconds left down 1 point. Not a guarantee Utah wins if she makes them. LSU had a timeout left and could have gotten off a decent shot or been fouled. Was pulling hard for the Utes watching that game.

This will be interesting to monitor with Rutgers coming here on Wednesday. Their top freshman is not playing against USC tonight. It looks like a coaches decision.

This could get interesting.

I was fortunate to watch my daughter and Kneepkens go at it for several years in high school. I was really hoping she would have picked the Gophers

Olivia Olson is having a hot shooting night for Michigan so far vs OSU tonight!

CHAMPAIGN, Ill — The Illinois women’s basketball program has taken a significant blow this season, as two key players, Mikra Cook and Gretchen Dolan, are out for the remainder of the season due to injuries.

The Northwestern women's basketball team said Friday that it won't travel to Los Angeles for games against UCLA and USC next week due to concerns surrounding the ongoing wildfires in the area.

The Wildcats were slated to play the No. 1 Bruins on Sunday and the No. 4 Trojans on Wednesday.

The Big Ten said in a statement that it "is looking into all possible rescheduling options and will share additional information when available."

In her return to the court Kiyomi McMiller scored 33 but Rutgers (0-6) fell to Nebraska 69-62. Britt Prince led the Huskers with 24 points. Nebraska (4-2) played without Allison Weidner who injured her knee in practice.

Wonder why the Big Ten allowed Penn State to play at USC but Northwestern wasn't allowed to play out west.

I read it was Northwestern who decided not to go out west, as they won't play either of their games against UCLA/USC.. and there next game will be against us next Sunday.

I'm sure they saw two major losses in their future and decided to take the easy way out. Given the complexity of BigTen scheduling these games will probably not be made up.

One thing to consider is that the Santa Ana winds are expected to whip up to a consistent 50mph again today, vastly increasing the fire danger in the L.A. area. Of course, these wildfires can be wildly unpredictable and even if they don't directly affect LAX and the 2 campuses right now, it could change with-in a couple of hours. Not to mention travel and accommodation issues happening in the area right now because of all the evacuations.

My friend jokes that I say this every year but: This has to be McKeown's last season, right?

This decision was made long before the return of the Santa Ana winds.

You're saying that the decision was made before Friday, at which time the fires were gong on full blast in the area? The story indicates that Friday was when they announced they weren't making the trip.

Even though the winds aren't getting really bad again until a little later today, I think they've known that today and tomorrow are going to be particularly bad fire days since last week.

At the same time Northwestern decided to cancel their trip, Penn State continued with their plan to play at USC. Both Penn State and USC were scheduled to play on the 12th and 15th in the LA area. Penn State played on the 12th and I suspect they'll play on the 15th.
