Other B1G Conference Games 2024-25

If you follow the weather channel, they knew the Santa Ana winds were coming back this week. They were talking about it on the air last Thursday.
Penn State is playing UCLA at UCLA tonight. Northwestern was scheduled to play USC. They canceled. Penn State played both their games. Northwestern canceled both. Weather forecast was the same for both schools.

However, if you look at the fire warning area, both schools are in that red zone on the map. Maybe Northwestern decided to use caution because they were taking the health of their players into consideration. Not just the fire, but the smoke and ash, which has encouraged a lot of people out there to wear masks to try to avoid breathing some of the carcinogens in the air. I am not saying that Penn State made a wrong decision, but it was each school‘s decision to make. Perhaps the coaches consulted with the players, perhaps not. But it’s not for you or I to judge them. We have family just outside of that area, and they are already weighing their options.

Not to mention that decisions like these may come from higher up than even the basketball program. Going into an active disaster area is not without risk to players and staff, and it's possible that Northwestern's athletics department or the university itself were not comfortable accepting the liability. We'll never know because we're not in the room.

Just thought it was odd. Yikes!
The problem was first; assuming that the conference made the call. Second; advancing the ridiculous theory that one team might be ducking games in post #22. That's what I felt was a pretty uncalled for assumption from a position of not having any way of knowing what was being discussed with-in the athletic department at Northwestern.

Some pretty awful rumors on a variety of life situations have gained traction because somebody looked at the poster and thought they had the whole movie figured out.

I know that this isn't the Big Ten, but what has happened to Stanford Women's basketball? They were National Champs not too long ago, now they're scraping the bottom of the barrel in the ACC.

Iowa falls to 2-6 after losing at Oregon (5-3) 49-50
When I was watching I couldn’t decide who to cheer for. On the one hand it’s nice to see the Hawkeyes way down in the standings. On the other hand, Ducks fighting for an NCAA bid like the Gophers.

A common dilemma this season

Kinda enjoying Texas smoking Maryland by 30 in the first half. Never been a Maryland or Brenda fan (save her one year here), at all.

Texas now up by 35 in the 3rd.

Just turned it on. Apparently, Sellers was injured in the game and is on the bench. Our timing for playing MD was too early.

Something to monitor

The USC women’s basketball team has spent the past week in the state of Indiana. The Trojans played the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday and stuck around in the state to play the Purdue Boilermakers on Wednesday. USC blew out Purdue, but the win was accompanied by a right knee injury to Trojan star Kiki Iriafen. She knocked knees with a Purdue player in the second quarter and limped off the court. She did not re-enter the game after the incident.

USC women’s basketball will simply have to wait to see if this injury will cause Kiki Iriafen to miss any games. If there is any good news to be found here (before we gain more details about the injury), it is that USC doesn’t play again until Thursday, January 30. The Trojans host Minnesota after an extended layoff. If USC had a game this coming weekend, Iriafen might not have been likely to play. If the injury does turn out to be relatively minor, Iriafen might have a chance to play against Minnesota and ultimately not skip the Trojans’ next game
