***OFFICIAL OMAHA AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

With Mike Mitchell being out for an unknown amount of time, CBJ needs to find some who can space the floor. Also, the offense needs a complete overhaul. Very stagnant with minimal ball movement.

Been 2 games and will take some time for this group to figure out how to play together. Hopefully Mike Mitchell doesn't miss much time because he was taking on more of a leadership role. Asuma will get there eventually but as a true freshman he probably is going to need some time to get acclimated to the college game. Patterson might be a candidate to take on more of a leadership role.

The Iso Garcia ball is rough. I don't think it's Garcia's fault, I think the coaches encourage that, but we would be much better if Garcia (And everyone else) would move the ball.

Chemistry is an issue right now and that just takes time no matter who you have / who you are.

Hopefully these guys can learn how to mesh over the non conference portion here.

Also a bummer not being full strength. Need the MAC transfer, and both Mitchell's to be healthy.

Now...how bad is Mitchell's injury?
Gonna have both Mitchell's in civi's for awhile?
Watching the play I thought it was a fractured tibia, which would be catastrophic. The way he was holding it scared me. If its truly an "ankle" injury that's a major dodged bullet.

Yup this is the clear biggest issue to the offense. And like you said, I don't think much of it at all is Garcia fault from what I can tell. But similar to last year it appears Ben is content to just Garcia ball it.

We absolutely can play through Garcia but we need to run more sets through him and let him be a decision maker. He's got enough skill and athletic ability to do that. Where he scans from up top around the 3 pt line or backs down a bit and fires a over the shoulder pass to a cutter. We rarely do anything when he gets it except have him post up and everyoen watch. Then kick out for a reset if there's nothing.

Good teams can easily survive with a strategy of "let Dawson get his" if that is strictly going to be our offense. Heck, I think they welcome it.

This is why it was interesting to see them work through the scenario with no Garcia (foul trouble) or M Mitchell (injury) in the later stages of a tight game. While it wasn't particularly pretty, I thought the offense was less predictable and different guys made plays (Patterson and Asuma, imo).

It is going to be tough when Rigsby and Mitchell are not scoring. Edmonds was a bright spot off the bench and a big key to the win. Obviously need other guys to step up when Garcia is off the floor or it's going to be a long season. New guys are trying to find ways to get their shot within the offense, I would expect it to get better in time. Very curious to see how they do in the upcoming MTE against tougher opponents.

Where do you find stats with the +/- for college? ESPN does not show that for NCAAM.

I generally find the official box score on the Gophers basketball page after the game with the story. I'm not a big fan of the +/- stats. Over the course of a full season, it can be a decent indicator, but on a single game basis, it can and often is very misleading. I posted a classic example, which happens quite often, a couple of weeks ago, highlighting a couple of Amir Coffey +/- stats in a couple of Clippers games.

Would agree! Johnson wants to be more like Fleck and have D and close games which often leads to some great wins, but also more losses that really sting and frustrating seasons. This team has plenty of talent and experience to score the basketball.

Next game against North Texas is going to tell a lot. Can this team bounce back with injuries and get a convincing W to build some confidence? If they think can rely all on Garcia each night to score 30, they will be in trouble.

Garcia, at present, is looking to score first and his teammates are standing around watching him. It's killing ball movement. This is why Garcia is scoring so much and it's why we made our run when he was out of the game. If Garcia is going to be used as the big, then guys have to make cuts and Garcia has to make the pass off from those cuts. At present, the Gophers are easy to guard.

I guess hope springs eternal.

When has Rigsby EVER scored? And there's a reason why Payne, Hawkins, & Christie got offers and Mitchell didn't.

We're a farm team. This try for a cheap but all-seniors team...I said we'd know early if this longshot strategy would work...but it's clearly going to fail. We will have a good team about once every 30 years...at most.

Don't let your shrink talk you out of suicide if you have already decided.

Every post you make is some version of this. Perhaps it’s therapeutic for you. One-trick ponies induce eye rolls and ignore buttons.

I've been advising you guys to enjoy the games for the camaraderie...etc...but to NOT concern yourselves with wins & losses.

I don't. I'm not a glutton-for-punishment anymore.

Well this off-season is when we officially became a farm-team. I was the most positive guy on this board for the last 3 years...until we lost all of our players that I predicted would develop.

Yep, the system that gave teams a chance to build up to a great year has been shattered on the hardwood floor and swept away for the few teams with deep pockets to build dynasties while the peasants look on. There is no sense in living or dying with Gopher sports.
