***OFFICIAL OMAHA AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I really doubt he plays for awhile. But, I hope it's just a sprained ankle. The way they carried him off the court, I also wouldn't be shocked to see this be much, much worse.

It was his shoulder, not his leg. Recently they said he was week to week.

I mean, I'll take it. At least we didn't lose. I watched Providence go down to the wire with Central Connecticut State, USC hold on against Idaho St, and #2 Alabama only beat Arkansas St by 9.

Now...how bad is Mitchell's injury?
Gonna have both Mitchell's in civi's for awhile?
On Monday night it looked like Patrick Mahomes blew his Achilles. 5 minutes later he was throwing the winning td. But this is a Minnesota team so...

Concerning game. But....it is early in the year.....and we have a lot of new players. Last year the Gophers got off to a rough start before turning it up. And Omaha looked to be a pretty competent team with some athletes
Yes. People should keep in mind that Northwestern lost to Chicago State, a perennially bad team, last season and they went to the tournament and won a game.

The team didn't look good most of the time today but, to their credit, the remaining players managed to erase the deficit and go ahead while Garcia was on the bench. I thought Patterson played a pretty fair floor game as the primary distributor and I think it should remain that way so Mitchell can get more passes at the three-point line. Edmonds scoring was important today since Fox didn't score much. Happy to see him make 4 of 6 free throws.

Patterson is not a point guard and never looks for Mitchell for open threes.

Patterson had 6 rebounds. Led in assists with 6 and 35 minutes of action.
Rigsby, 21 minutes and no rebounds, Odukale 19 minutes and 2 rebounds.
Edmonds 4 of 6 from the line. (Last year had a game where he went 7 of 8)
Team went from 11 of 17 from beyond the arc last game to 3 of 17 this game.
Team had 7 blocks
What would they do without Garcia? 24 points, 7 rebounds.
Basically went 8 deep with Betts getting 3 minutes also.
Asuma keeps his perfect streak alive and well with that 3 he hit. Now 3 of 3 on the season.
Gophers 15 of 26 from the line.
Gophers out rebounded 37-34 (Calling Frank Mitchell)

Asuma is going to have to play a lot more.
Rigsby hasn't shown much in the two real games. Did he flash in exhibition and fizzle in real time?
Okudale seems to have brick hands and uses them to dribble.
Edmonds looked better today.
Fox had a poor game, especially the first 3 possessions of the 2nd half. Gophers may have been a minus when he was on the court.
Patterson was solid and made good decisions.
Garcia can create his own shot, but he also stops ball movement and the team stops making cuts while they watch. When Garcia gets the ball, the others have to keep moving and give Garcia someone to pass to.
Rebounding and freethrow shooting is going to be our nemesis.

Rebounding problems may disappear when Big Mitchell returns.

Asuma needs more confidence. He barely penetrated the three point line before the last few possessions. Just way too quick to pick up his dribble and pass on the perimeter.

After he hit that three towards the end of the game, he started to assert himself more. Hopefully he’ll come along quickly.

They played through Mitchell getting injured and Garcia collecting four fouls, that is encouraging. They are new to each other, they are going to improve quickly. Doesn't look very good right now but it could change fast.
I had to watch this game on tape today. It just looks like a team that doesn't really know who is going to do what yet. That is understandable with a pretty much remade roster.

It seems bad that we had to struggle, but on the other hand it might have felt a whole lot better with decent three point shooting and free throw shooting. 3-17 from 3 pt range. Make 3 more and you are looking at a 13 point win. Then add a few free throws....

I think Frank Mitchell will add a lot on the boards plus he is a big body that they can chuck it into, who is a willing passer. Asuma is going to be terrific. Ben has to get him confident to start penetrating and breaking down the defense. I really feel like he will be the PG and there will be a rotation of guards around him - Mitchell, Cochrane, Patterson and Rigsby.

Edmunds has surprised me with a little bit of offense. Odukale looks like a situational (defense) player to me.

Garcia/Mitchell/Cochran/Mitchell/ Asuma is the line up I will guess we settle on
Edmunds/ Fox/Rigsby/ Patterson/Odukale all will play plenty

Obviously I am just guessing on Cochran- but he has had the most success in another league.
None of these guys are bad...its just that there is only one exceptional player and not much separation between the rest.

Going to be growing pains with that many new faces all playing together for the first time. That is one benefit of a soft non-conf schedule, can hopefully work through those issues and still win games.

Johnson will need them clicking by the time conference games start because he can't afford another bad season.

Really miss Hawkins. This team just doesn't seem to have a leader on the floor. I'm so sick of watching CBJ standing around, quiet, arms folded like a doof, with Thorson on the bench screaming at the players.
I do agree. But my days of beating on Ben are over. I am gonna simply watch/listen to the games when I can and cheer on the team.
