***OFFICIAL OHIO STATE AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Good point! Sure, criticize away! But, when there is nothing but that, it gets old and extremely tedious. Like I said above, there were some bad things in this game but there were some good things too and I agree with the poster who said this was our best game of the season.
You know the answer to this is...make a change. We know where the change must be made, it's just the timing of that change that is in question.

I think that hardly anyone would disagree that it's time to start over with a new coach next season. Personally, I couldn't care less about the A.D. He doesn't coach or play in games and I don't think he's evaluated by the success or failure of any particular coach by those who matter in that evaluation.
I think where people lump in Coyle is that it is his job to put each of the sports - particularly the ones that generate revenue - in the best positions to succeed. He can't coach the teams, but he has to get them the resources they need to be competitive. Not happenin' for men's basketball. It's not just the coaching choice, a better foundation needs to be laid. Is he the man for that job? I don't know.

He's very deliberate in what he does. NIL and Transfers have blown things up. Football is most important. He has done a great job with other sports in making quality hires and setting each sport up for success. Men's basketball will be taken care of this off season. Brighter days are ahead.

Agreed. Whether the coach succeeds or not is up in the air, but I think he's definitely going to hire someone with a quality, proven background.

Yes, wins will be hard to come by this season so I'm going to look at performances as well as wins or losses. There were some bad performances in this game that contributed significantly to this defeat but there were also good ones that kept us in position to win throughout most of the 50 minutes. And, as I mentioned in my previous post, some of these guys had to be worn out when the game went to overtime but they continued to fight anyway.

I know most people won't feel this way but I'm going to try to enjoy and even admire the moments that I can this season. That suits me fine because I've never been one to follow the heard anyway.
Don't get me wrong.....I am all for looking for the positives with the program and the players and there were definitely some good things last night.

The real bummer is that this team is just not that much fun to watch. Last year's group was fun with Hawkins zipping all over the place, Christie lighting it up from outside and Payne making plays down low. They didn't have a great year but at least they were entertaining most nights.

This year's team....not so much. Fox is awesome, he is limited but he gives it everything he has when he is out on the court. Asuma looks like a promising young player but outside of that there just isn't much there to get excited about watching on a nightly basis. Garcia is a talented player but he always looks like he wants to be anywhere but on the court most nights (probably not how he feels but very little joy comes through in terms of body language or facial expressions). Mike Mitchell can get on a roll sometimes but as for the rest there just isn't much personality there.

Just feels like a long slow funeral march to Johnson's eventual firing.

He is flat out behind. Deliberate?

If deliberate means always being behind, someone needs to remind Coyle it's his job to lead.

I'll agree on it at this level. It's likely a year late. If he knew that the local talent was all bolting after last season with us hosting the B1G at Target Center, I would have brought in a new coach this year.

Plus there's only one player on the roster who's even slightly likely to have a substantial role on any future team. So watching for the future is pointless too.
yep, at least during the season last year you could consider what the team might look like the following year if they all came back (we all know how that turned out of course).

With this current group, outside of Cochran coming back and making some kind of impact it is what it is. And next year we will be meeting a whole new group of players under a new head coach. Season is about as lame duck as any season possibly can be.

They totally blew the NIL start up. When you have been mired in the dirt for 20 years and a new era pops up where suddenly to you a chance to buy your way out of it- they should have leapt at the opportunity. I went to a meeting with a group of perhaps 50 people listening to Coyle and Ben two plus years ago. I knew right then and there that they were going to blow it. Everything was fear. "We need to be cautious. We need to not offend the lesser players, we need to be egalitarian or this will be unmanageable. We are going to have to wait and see, we are not sure where all the rules will end up." DTA was there and asking for funds, but there was nothing inspiring about the message like: "Hey, we have a great chance to build a champion here." or "We need to go big- this is our moment."

They are horrid at PR and the masters of setting low expectations that don't sell the program.

Again, if he didn't see the three amigos were on their way out by mid last season, that's yet another indictment of Coyle.
Perpetually behind.

1) I agree that the team is not much fun to watch but I'm going to continue to watch (at least for the time being) and try to enjoy what I can anyway.

2) At this point, I just look at that as a given so I no longer think or care about it. What remains is 16 individual games and some of them might be good. I don't know which ones will be so I'll tune in to see.

I've followed bad teams many times before and there have never been any lasting or serious consequences.

One of my favorite Gopher moments all time was when we beat Maryland in 2016 (maybe on Senior Night?) and Joey King was interviewed. Maybe we'll get another chance at something like this this year

Right there with you. I will still tune in even though it is likely to be painful to watch more often then not. :)

That's the spirit! We can hope anyway!

That particular game you mention is the perfect example. Nobody thought that Gopher team would beat that Maryland team. The young man in the video was a big part of the win. Wish we had a clone who could shoot like him on this team.

I've grown up in Minnesota so I've endured my fair share. What's a few more
