Fox shot 2-7 from the free throws line......
Well...we have three key players in Mitchell, Fox and Edmonds who are all sub 50% career free throw shooters. On high major teams how many guys are below 50% FT shooters over their career.
There can't be many. But we have 3.

"Hey boys, we're up by 3 with 10 seconds. Let them shoot a 3 and tie it instead of fouling. What could possibly go wrong..."

Do all the work to make that comeback and then you lose on that. Ultimately yeah it’s on ben for these are the players he recruited, but ffs that’s just an awful mental mistake by an upperclassman
We were told old wins supposedly

So no foul up by 3 with 4 seconds; but foul tied with 4 seconds.
Make it make sense
Mitchell was beat and it was going to be an easy 2 pts with less than 4 seconds if he didn't foul I think. Bad collapse on the D end period. Should have just kept some sort of pressure in the front court instead of letting them just take it right down. The pressure caused the steal and they had no timeouts.

In the regular, put pressure on without reaching and then foul as soon if they cross half court with probably less than 5 seconds. This is a veteran team that should know that, but likely it was because we couldn't make free throws.

Like mentioned other times...slow style of play keeps us in the game, maybe gets us a big W or 2, but usually ends up suffering tough losses like this game and that keep us from dancing or any post seasons.

Tough to be a fan of this style. Yes it is good we are in many games for most part, but when you end up coming out on the losing side more often then not it is tough. Poor free throw shooting makes it even harder to close out tight games.

I want to point out some negatives and positives that I took away from this game.

Negatives:
-free throw shooting. Parker shooting 2-7 was a killer
- Dawson fouling out with 4 points. They clearly had a plan for him to not get off.
- Short rotation continues to bother me. I'm sure it'll increase a bit once TC and MM are healthy and ready to go
- Three point shooting got better than the last game but still not good.
- not fouling when up 3. Bad coaching decision.

Positives:
- Patterson is really starting to step up lately.
- Asuma keeps looking more and more comfortable out there.
- Femi looked the best he's looked all year. He looked like the practice Femi that we've heard so much about.
- We got out and ran more, which created more opportunities for easy buckets.

Even with all the Negatives, we were still 4 bounces away from a match with a ranked opponent in the nonconference season. We still get to play someone from the ACC tomorrow so that'll help if we can pull it out.
Betts NEEDS to play more. Plain and simple. He offers something different. Athleticism and outside shooting. Is he going to make mistakes? Yes. But the more you put him out there, the less mistakes he'll make and the more he'll grow. Let's beat the Demon Deacons tomorrow! GO GOPHERS!

Good take! I agree it is disappointing to hear all the excitement about how deep of team we are and still in the beginning part of the season only playing mainly 7 people. Yes MM and TC could make 9, but could be more. Also disappointing when you know teams are coming withe the double right away on Garcia when he catches the ball 10 feet out and we haven't figured out how to help him yet.

Also want to note: after Rigsby's shot fell off the rim, I was so dejected, I went out and ate 4 slices of cheesecake 😐
I'm not necessarily proud; just stating facts

Four pieces of cheesecake is two tickets to Paradise. I hope you enjoyed your stay; I'm guessing it was short lived

If by stepping up you mean he's taking a lot of shots, then yes. 6-20 from the floor is just horrid. Stop. Let someone else do it.
I mean, even with that, we still had a chance. He had a couple clutch buckets. Who else is going to shoot besides him when our best player was taken out of the offense? Big Frank didn't have a bad game.

Team desperately needs Mike Mitchell back as another offensive option.

I'm not gonna pile on any one person because Im seeing it a ton online

But how in the holy hell is Patterson "improving" this guy is awful. He's slow. Horrid scorer. Bad passer. Can't control the offense.

He's not starting for a single team in the top 50 of Kenpom. And I honestly am not sure if he even makes the top 8 of the rotation of a single one of them.

I think eventually we get to the point where Asuma, Mitchell and Cochran are the primary guards but right now 2 of those guys are on the shelf so Patterson has to play a large role on this team.

Here’s a few observation of this game:
Yea, they should have fouled before the three pointer.
Garcia should have more than 7 shots the entire game. In fact, he should have had 7 or more at the half.
Patterson should never play the entire game. 6-20 does not help the team. He is not and should never be the focal point with Garcia on the floor. Don’t give me he helped the team stay in it.
Free throw shooting continues to be an issue for this team.
Defense was very good at times.

Watching Mike Mitchell warm up today, he is not close to being ready to play. I hope they don’t try to rush him back. I personally don’t think he will provide any value. It’s not worth sacrificing his health to play right now.

I will be officially calling this team "The Minnesota Union of Brick Layers" until they prove me wrong. From poor 3 point shooting to poor freethrow shooting, this team earns the title.

Old didn’t win.
Actually it did....Wichita State played 8 guys over 10 minutes. Of those 8 the youngest player was a Junior, the rest were seinors, 5th year, grad transfers.....Wichita State has an old roster as well.

I don't know how well Mitchell and Cochran will play when they come back. I hope they will play better than the existing crew. The faith placed in Asuma seems more based on perceived potential (and popularity on Gopher Hole) than actual results. So far he hasn't been so great. If Mitchell and Cochran are inserted into the starting lineup, I would pick Odukale as the third guard based on what we've seen so far. At least he manages to do a fair amount of other things on the floor every game even if his offense isn't there.
