***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS VIRGINIA TECH DUKE'S MAYO BOWL IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

The spring game used to be one of the highlights of my year getting a sneak peek at some of the young players. Since we don’t have that anymore and since a decent chunk of our starters won’t play today, one of the best parts of today will be watching some of the young players get some time. Should be great fun tonight. PJ likes to win these shitty bowl games. I think we take them down by 20.
when you say a decent chunk have you heard anything official? Obviously we know Daniels won't play and some assumptions being made about a few of the draft guys but in general our players seem to play in the bowl games for the most part.

Guessing will know in 40-45 minutes

Was Jah known already? Officially in the draft I'm assume then?
He is playing in one of the senior bowls I believe so has been assumed for a while he would be gone next year. Bowl game status was up in the air but in this era of opt outs it isn't all that shocking he isn't playing today.

full disclosure - I will not be watching the game in real time. I have another obligation tonight - made before I knew the date of the bowl game - so I will DVR the game and watch it on Saturday.

If possible, I will try to sneak some peeks at the score during the evening.

it stinks when real life intrudes on my pursuit of self-indulgence. but every now and then, I try to act like a decent person, even if it is an act.
Getting married?

Few surprises in there but most of the guys that were speculated to opt out did. Major not playing is a little surprising, wonder if it is injury related?
No Major surprises me.

Makes the RB position interesting as well. Mangham should be the number 2 but after him.....maybe we get a look at Wright?

Would love to know why Major is out, has to be injury related I would think.

Major said he’s going to the draft, so would assume he’s preparing and doesn’t want to risk injury. There’s nothing left he needs to put on tape, all about how he performs at pro day now

I guess but have to think he is an extreme longshot to get drafted. Quality RB fall to the middle and late rounds and while he is solid I don't think teams will be all that excited to draft him. But gotta do what he feels is best I guess and apparently that is skipping the bowl game.

I would guess Mangham and possibly Ijeboi

Why do you make it sound negative that our coach wants to win a football game we are playing?

lol.....but I don't get why they included a shot of a basketball going through an old hoop. That part didn't make any sense.....gotta love quirky bowl games and this is one of the quirkiest.
Duke's Mayo, Cheez-its, and Pop Tarts have all done a great job in marketing their bowl games. They get their money's worth much more than most others that just do a video of some of their employees or the CEO thanking everyone for watching.

That’s great. I’d hate to have a guy go from undrafted to even more undrafted by playing for his teammates and the school that is giving him a scholarship.

Agreed.....may as well have fun with it. Duke's Mayo has gotten a ton of traction from the winning coach mayo bath at the end of the game. It is a weird tradition but it is a memorable one.

Putting it all on the line for teammates and a university he's been with since January 2024. Where's the loyalty?

Psst.....maybe he noticed the 35 carries for Taylor and the three carries for all other RBs in last year's bowl. I doubt he left Oklahoma to get 78 carries in 12 games. Credit to him for suiting up for the entire regular season.

Putting what on the line exactly? A highly unlikely NFL career?

I know Major is not the problem himself and is just following the trend, but guys like him opting out is just stupid. It’s his right, but it’s dumb.

If you honestly think last year's bowl game had anything to do with his decision you are delusional.

Guys are well within their rights to skip the bowl games, but let’s call it what it is. They are quitting on their team.

In my mind, the season ended with the Wisconsin victory and the CFP bracket announcement. These guys were committed through the season.

The Mayo Bowl is an exhibition game for next year. If they are not going to be here next year, they have no obligation to play.

I, for one, am a big Mayo fan. Turkey sandwiches, BLT'S, ham sandwiches, mayo based coleslaw. Kind of like bacon, most things better with it. Always a Hellman's man but recently tried Duke's, and... pretty good.
