***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT MUSSELMAN (USC) IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

If there was a referee call that was questionable from the USC point of view I would say it was the foul called on the Patterson drive llate when he made the two free throws to take the lead. I didn’t see much contact and he seemed to just kind of fall down. But when is the last time the gophers that got that kind of call late in the game?

You Lucye an apology!!
I was hard on him when he was killing the offense and playing inefficiently. I give him due praise when he is playing well. He's a tough kid- that I have always said. It is good to see him playing well and he is definitely making a big difference right now.

Keep Frank Mitchell in for most of the second half. He certainly doesn't earn any style points but he's more effective than anyone else we have playing inside.
It certainly isn't Ben's style to change things up after a win, but Frank should get his starting center role back. And definitely deserves more minutes.

He matches up much better physically with most Big Ten posts, and has been playing great recently. He's prone to the dumbass technical but we just desperately need him out there cracking skulls.

Parker can go back to his energy role off the bench, which he's much better suited for.

Him having 4 fouls really hindered him and USC. Their offense went stagnant and we didn't quit. They're a better team but we wanted it more. Patterson and Frank were the reason we won. Both of their best games and we needed it considering Dawson only scored 7
Dawson was locked in on Defense down the stretch!

That technical was a doozy tonight. As soon as he did it I was thinking oh oh and boom he got T'd up. I agree that it is a head scratcher that Fox is starting.

He also had a ridiculous tech against Washington which arguably cost us the game.

I told my gal tonight "it's the hockey player in him". Love Frank's intensity but he simply doesn't have enough actual on-floor hoops experience to know what is gonna be called.

Muss certainly has a strong track record overall, can obtain top talent, is a great interview and likely a bomb fundraising personality. I'd have loved (and would still love) to have him here.

But he's a sub par X's and O's guy, always has been. Excellent motivator but more of a "let's roll out the ball and let the boys do it" guy.

USC looked panicked today when they were melting down, and he did absolutely nothing, made zero adjustments, to stem the tide.
I will agree Muss was completely unimpressive down the stretch today. Their after timeout actions were all seemingly..."ok, run fast, jump high and score boys". Probably were not, but it surely looked like it.
To be fair Ben was similar...Patterson was making plays and we had Dawson forcing bad shots ATO's. Patterson was just coming up big without much design to help him either. Claude didn't.

Gophers were lucky Patterson wasn't called for the hack with 5 seconds left. The foul came just before USC lost the ball out of bounds. Gophers finally caught a break. Who would have thought, with Garcia only getting 7 points and Mike Mitchell only getting 2 points, that Minnesota would win? Patterson with the game of his life, Frank Mitchell with the game of his life and Asuma playing strong leads to an unlikely win.

I think the contact was a little before when he stumbled.

Yeah, the contact was on the floor before the shot. Didn't matter because it was 2 shots regardless but there was definitely contact.

Losing team griping about the refs is the story of every single close game in any sport.....tale as old as time.

It seems like in situations like that, when you go hard to the hoop, there's often times going to be some contact. It puts the officials in a position that they need to call something. I know everyone screams let them play, but the whistle will be blown in that situation more often than not on a 50-50 play.

Officiating is equal opportunity bad. And I can't blame them... It's a job where you have to process a lot of information immediately, and it's not humanly possible to get it right all the time. And throw in the fact that no matter what you call, half of the people involved are going to object to it

Yep....and big screen TVs and high def cameras make it seem even worse because fans get to sit on their couch watching zoomed in clips in super slow mo and then they question how the ref could possibly have missed the call. Never mind that the ref is watching everything in real time, from court level, with tons of activity all around them....

Officials make mistakes, happens in every game....but it is an extremely difficult job and very often fans lose sight of that and immediately assume the refs are out to get them.

BUT BUT BUT...the Barn SUCKS!!

I know Muss probably made a lifestyle choice going from Arkansas to LA, but damn. What a depressing home atmosphere. Especially for an energy nut like him who feeds off the vibes.

One of my biggest takeaways from this season has been our great our fan base still is despite how bad the program has been. Damn near every other road game for us has been in front of a comatose, half full crowd.

Iowa, Maryland, Penn State, USC....like playing in a morgue.
When we booed the shit out of Battle last year, it gave me renewed hope and faith. There is something special about this city, this fan base, this building.

I agree, the optics were bad though since USC was in possession when the whistle blew
It's definitely questionable. Not sure what the rule is. Very possible it was an error...but also not sure whether it was a difference in the game.

If we're talking refs, did anyone get a good look on the Femi foul on the three pointer? I didn't see a foul???

Refs are lucky to be right 50% of the time. In my world that's an F. Who would want a job like that?

Officiating and the game has changed so much the past 20-25 years. Players now are very aggressive with the ball on offense and their hands and reaching in on D. It grinds me when the offense player goes up to shoot and moves into the defender who has the right to be there with hand arms vertical and gets called for a shooting foul. IMO, at best thats a no call. And post defenders push, shove, elbow to keep the player from his right for position and seldom get called. Yet a defender gets called for lightly hand checking a dribbler. Traveling and 3 seconds are forgotten violations but the Euro step is now cool. And so on.........

Moving picks rarely get called.
