***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT MUSSELMAN (USC) IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Tweet from USC suggests an inadvertent whistle near the end of the game was crucial and went Gophers way. I didn’t see the game. Someone explain that to me. Thanks in advance.

Were the refs good or bad today?
I thought it was fair. I couldn’t point out a play where they really changed the game. I think USC fans will call the swipe on Claude where he fumbled the ball out of bounds but I didn’t see an arm take.

Claude didn't play much as he had lots of fouls.

No one said anything about the MM swipe at Claude before the TO?

Johnson was calling for timeout after a made basket, and the officials awarded it to him after the ball was inbounded.
But they showed on video that he was clearly trying to call the timeout before the ball was inbounded however the official close to him wasn't paying attention so it ended up looking like he called timeout after the ball was inbounded.

I agree, the optics were bad though since USC was in possession when the whistle blew

Him having 4 fouls really hindered him and USC. Their offense went stagnant and we didn't quit. They're a better team but we wanted it more. Patterson and Frank were the reason we won. Both of their best games and we needed it considering Dawson only scored 7

Sometimes you catch a break and the refs don't see it. Earlier in the game Frank was clearly fouled on a layup attempt and it was missed.....it happens all the time.

They could have gotten Patterson for a foul there but in a nice twist of fate something bounced our way for a change.

Dodged a bullet by not hiring Muss
Nope. He has a strong track record. (Even though I saw him completely blow up a pick up game at whatever Lifetime was called back then underneath Target Center when his dad was the wolves coach. He went crazy out of control over a stupid phantom foul. If you'd seen it, you wouldn't forget it either. I assume he's grown--a lot.)

Thought he was the key player at the end that was reviewed where they called USC ball initially then after review Gooher ball. Mitchell swiped at it. Then a second after Claude lost the handle. Garcia had excellent D

Do the Gophers win this game with Hawkins and Payne instead of Patterson and F Mitchell?

It looked especially bad because Johnson was out on the court as well. It wasn't till they showed the other angle that you could clearly see him trying to get the timeout well before the ball was put back in play.

Odd sequence but in the end they did get the call right as we should have been awarded the timeout there if we wanted to use one. Certainly didn't cost USC the game as some of their fans might try and claim.

Yes....no....maybe....who the hell knows?.....does it matter?
It doesn't matter, just a question. The narrative has been how much better we'd be if we'd kept them. Overall we'd have won 2-3 more before today, but not sure they win this one.

Muss certainly has a strong track record overall, can obtain top talent, is a great interview and likely a bomb fundraising personality. I'd have loved (and would still love) to have him here.

But he's a sub par X's and O's guy, always has been. Excellent motivator but more of a "let's roll out the ball and let the boys do it" guy.

USC looked panicked today when they were melting down, and he did absolutely nothing, made zero adjustments, to stem the tide.

I don't think there is much doubt that this would have been a better team overall if you swapped Hawkins/Payne for Patterson/F. Mitchell all season. Probably not drastically better but better.

Hawkins probably does a better job getting Garcia involved, Payne could definitely have duplicated or bettered anything F. Mitchell did....so we probably would have had a good shot of winning with those two as opposed to the two we have but who knows....

The announcers said that the ref said "My bad" for missing the timeout request.
