I know most teams aren't as good as MSU on defense, but they show it's such an easy blue print to follow. Don't let Garcia beat you. Don't let Mitchell take wide open 3's. Dare any of the other 3 players on the court to score.

I would love to know if posters like USAF are jerks in real life or if they just save it for message boards. It is just pathetic. I keep trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because sometimes he has decent posts but at this point I think he is a lost cause.

Exactly why I’m an advocate of playing smaller with Garcia at the 5 at times. Puts another “shooter” Rigsby/Betts/etc on the floor to give Garcia more room to operate. Our 5s clog everything up and there’s no reason to guard them

Asuma should start over Odukale or at least play a lot more. Betts should play more probably. Rigsby just brings nothing if he can't make 3's.

You’re right but atleast he gives Garcia an outlet to knock down a jumper if the defense collapses. The small lineup is what brought us back in the Michigan game with Femi at the 4 along with Garcia, Patterson, Asuma, Mitchell
 

There is no disgrace in getting your butt beat on the road by one of the hottest two teams in the country. Michigan State showed me some things tonight. I hope to be cheering them in the Final Four in a couple months.

That said, I didn't like what I saw from the Gophers. The turnovers hurt my soul. They got rattled and panicky awfully early.

Probably more than 5 or 6. They have 9 RSCI top 100 players on their team. We have one. And then they have player like the big Polack who is an international.

Asuma is getting better and isn’t ready to start.

Betts plays as much as he should.

We are not skilled beyond 2-3 players and if they don’t score we’re done.

Patterson going out with 2 fouls killed any game plan and Asuma isn’t ready for those extended minutes.
 

The Gophers have home games left with Washington, Northwestern and Penn State. They can win 2 or maybe all of those. Beyond that, I find it unlikely they win more than 1 or 2 others. The other home games are Illinois and Wisconsin and another road win will be tough.

Maybe he's not "ready" but who cares? Give him minutes and let him develop. Odukale is a good defender who can't score. That wouldn't be so bad except Parker also can't score on his own. The line-up is too limited offensively.

That's why I have him on ignore (along with more than a few others). There was a research project a few years ago studying your exact question. The study found that the internet didn't make people jerks. Jerks are just jerks. You could relieve yourself from that nuisance by pressing that precious button. It's not surrendering. It's simply a rational action to make this place more tolerable.

About as bad of a start as you could have drawn up with the 2 quick fouls on Patterson and the turnover. Needed to come out on fire like they did against Oregon but unfortunately that didn't happen tonight and MSU is just too good if you don't play your absolute best against them.

I thought Asuma played relatively well tonight and Patterson didn't play well early so I thought the switch was merited. We were simply overmatched against Michigan State. Move on. The back half of the conference slate should be better.

That’s all well and good but we’re in year 4, they’re in year 1. Expectations are different, the win streak was fun but I wish we weren’t comparing ourselves to the worst team in the league in year 4. Let’s start another one on Saturday.

Got a link for that study? I put him back on ignore tonight. Basically everyone on my ignore list is there do to the basketball forum....this board seems to attract a special breed. :)

All right but let's not get despondent from comparing ourselves unfavorably to the best team in the league either. We're not as good as the best teams in the league. We already knew that. Fortunately, the last half of our conference schedule doesn't include many of them.

I’m aware and I expected a loss tonight. My problem is that the game wasn’t even competitive. It’s one of the toughest places in the country to play, but I’ve seen bad Minnesota teams in years past at least compete with them. Michigan State was out of our league in both matchups this year.

Yes, they were but there's a lot of variation in the league. Michigan State is #1 in the league and 9--0. When has Minnesota been close to #1 in the 21st century? Eventually one has accept who they are. Most people have no problem accepting their own limitations but for some reason that doesn't extend to their preferred sports teams.

USAF can be irritable at times yes.
