***OFFICIAL MICHIGAN STATE AT MINNESOTA IZZO LONG POST-GAME HANDSHAKE WITH JOHNSON, POST-GAME PRAISE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

This really kind of confirms what the eye test shows. Patterson is a low percentage, high volume shooter. He’s an absolute black hole at times, but he is one of the only players on the team actually looking to score. It’s hard to fault him for that when you have a group of guys sitting at the perimeter late in the shot clock.

I think Asuma has looked like he has potential as a freshman, but he just doesn’t do much. Definitely not an impact player at this stage. He’s a pass first point guard, but he has a very low assist rate. He seems to lack the confidence to break down the other team and his usage stats confirm he plays a lot, but really doesn’t contribute all that much.
I think the problem with Asuma is that he plays too safe, when penetrating into the paint, any resistance and he passes safely back to someone just standing on the perimeter. I wish he would take it to the hoop, possibly get fouled or dish to Garcia or Fox if opposing big steps in for help defense

Maybe Michigan State is pretty good

It was pretty clear to me that the Michigan State team we saw last week was head and shoulders above the one the Gophers played three times last season and their game against Nebraska just reinforced that. They have speed, athleticism, and significant size with ability upfront.

I actually thought the Gophers played reasonably well in the second half of the MSU game.

Normally scoring 72 points would win you some games. But not when the other team puts 90 on you and a barrage of three's. They do look they're in March form or near it.
Mitchell stretching the defense with 3s was a breath of fresh air.
