Alright, the Hamline Pipers will be in The Barn tonight and fortunately for the Gophers Vern Mikkelsen will not be walking through the door (h/t to @LesBolstad who will routinely does this bit, which is a great bit). This should be a good game to hopefully fix a few things that needed fixing after the first exhibition game, most notably hopefully we get off to a quicker start.

Stay healthy, dominate, get the rotation set and feel ready for the season to start after tonight.

I don't expect that we'll learn a lot about the Gophers in this event, but it is another chance to keep working on the on-court chemistry before they start playing games that count toward the season record. last I saw, Patterson was likely to play but Okukale was iffy.

meanwhile, Pat Reusse was noting that MSU-Mankato is playing an exhibition game against Kentucky. According to Reusse, he texted the MSU Coach and asked him how much money they were getting for this event. and the response, according to Reusse, was "more than the Gophers offered us."

I suppose that could be a joke. but if it's legit, that suggests that the Gophers did try to set up an exhibition with MSU-Mankato - the defending D2 National Champions - but got outbid. would be interesting to know the whole story.

We should have held an exhibition at the Taylor center, probably would be a sell out for Mankato and give us some experience on the road, even if it's against D2. They are the reigning champs after all. The only other road game we have in non-conference is the MTE. Our non-con does next to nothing to prepare us for even the worst of big ten opponents. Ben already on the hot seat (maybe he has assurances we do not know about?), so might as well go for broke at this point.
