***OFFICIAL GOPHERS VS ILLINI IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Ballsy call and correct call by a coach when the defense was struggling. Go for 2 with a pretty good offense, or kick the one and bet on a terrible D? Easy decision. If the score had been 10-3, maybe. But not when you can't stop 'em at all.

Ya, giving up 23 pts is a ton! The call worked out, but it wasn't the percentage call. I disagreed with it.

I kind almost don't want them to win today, because there will be nothing worse than to squeak out
a win vs Ill and be 5-6 with hopes to beat wisconsin and become bowl eligible, only to get our s**t
rocked next week in horrific fashion for the 12th straight year.

This defense will be shredded by sconnie..

You are wrong and nothing is new.

Until i'm proven wrong, i'm not going to stop saying it. Pessimistic or not..

This game (and season), is over.

And the fateful Gopher, yet again says to himself 'well, next year'.

How's that working out for you?

I loved the call to go for 2. Ballsy, but makes game management sense if you're going to put it away and make it a 2 score game. Isn't it nice to have some icing on the cake?

I can think of one thing worse than being 5-6. Being 4-7. Because winning is better than losing.

The call for 2 had nothing to do with balls. It had everything to do with the right choice at the time given a number of variables. If they don't get it, we are up by 7 and it FORCES (worst case scenario) Cubit to make a choice of going for the win or playing for OT. If we kick XP and go up by 8, we have now made his decision. If we convert 2XP, which we did, game is essentially over.
Given everything we as fans and they have coaches have seen last 4 weeks, it was outstanding and right thing to do.

I'm happy we have a coach that goes for it. Sometimes it works (today) sometimes it doesn't (Michigan, or TCU tonight against OU). But let's play to win. I much prefer that...

So your point is that had we missed that would make the opposing coach make the decision?

I loved the call to go for two. Illinois, outside of that one play, had the momentum in the second half, so you have to figure with them fighting for a bowl game too they would have been fine with going to OT. Claeys knows this, so in his mind it's basically a no-risk shot to ice the game right there. I'm sure this decision was also impacted by whether or not they had a play they were confident in. Obviously they did, as the conversion was extremely easy.

Yep.

Murray had a rough game against Nebraska...but other than that I think he's been pretty solid. The back shoulder catch they completed against him today was a great throw and catch. Sometimes the other team makes plays. I think people will appreciate him more next year when he's not here. A corner that seems invisible most of the game is usually a good thing.

Spot On. EM31 struggled against NE where they played him exclusively in the slot instead of on the perimeter - due to injuries/available bodies. He has otherwise been legit and our best/most consistent defensive player.

He will sometimes get thrown at 2-3 times a game. Being "invisible" is a very good thing. Even then he has been a great tackler when the opponents throw the WR screens at him over and over in an attempt to get their best WR involved (since EM31 has otherwise taken them out). This doesn't even mention the other options we have on D because we can leave him "on an island" every play (think JH20 blitzes) as he doesn't need help.

He may be the best CB this team has had in my lifetime. Remember the "BBC is better" debate earlier in the year? Not a shot at BBC, but he isn't in EM31's league. Few in the B1G are.

I hate being right.
