***OFFICIAL GOPHERS VS HAWKEYES GAME THREAD!!!!!!!!***

Don't really want to deal with all the criticism we're about to have on GH, so I won't be checking back for a day or two. Was a fun game, but sucks to lose that one. Still think this team has potential if they can get hot. These slow starts are killing us

Mason doesn't go off for 20 and we lose by 30. We did not lose that game on free throws. But. Had we made those free throws we likely would have been in better position to win.

What about that phantom .1 second they took off? I counted 2.5

Nothing "fun" about that. Another complete choke job from the Gophers. How hard is it to make ONE play in the clutch? Neither Nate or Elliott can make a free throw? How can Iowa get ****ty free throw shooters to hit them down the stretch and have a guy make his THIRD 3 of the season late in the half when the game is getting away from them. The better team definitely did not win tonight, but the Gophers horrific effort for 27 minutes or so is largely to blame.

A special F YOU!!!!!!! to the officials from this game as we got homered on our own court. Andre Hollins was clearly fouled on that play which caused the turnover preceding the King charge and they swallowed their whistles.

We need Hollins to have graduated yesterday.
Still think Hollins is one of our better players. Just needs to be more consistent and play within himself. We've all seen what he can do, just needs to settle down and play his game.

It just sucks we have to wait like 8 months before the TCU football game.

Just crushed. And for the guys on the team that gave a damn tonight (or at least looked like it), how are they feeling right now? Fully expecting a piss poor effort on Saturday.

No, we would have been in better position period. More points always means you have a better shot at it.

Side question. How the hell was that not a contact foul on Iowa on the sideline before Mathieu cuts to the basket?

Oh, I'll still be around. I'm just done getting emotional/frustrated because it's inevitable more bad than good will happen.

Yup, after starting 0-4, I was going into this game thinking it'd be great of we won and if we don't, then oh well. Then they come back from down 17 in the second half and lose in the most painful way possible. Reminds me a little bit of 2013 Northwestern football, where they didn't seem like an awful team, but they kept repeatedly ending up on the wrong end of close games that they could have won.

I'm just looking forward to the Wisconsin game and the conference tournament. I couldn't care less about the rest of the season at this point.

You enjoy watching us lose badly to Wisconsin? ;)

No, we would have been in better position period. More points always means you have a better shot at it.

I guess what I was insinuating is if Nate or EE make one of those does Iowa's inbred manager nail a fade away 3 to tie it?

On a brighter note. Tyus and Duke are getting curb stomped for the 2nd game in a row.

Actually the choke jobs at the end of games are killing us.

I feel this exact same quote has been said a thousand times over the last three years. At some point, lets just acknowledge the fact he's a one-dimensional player who is not all that good - or at least more consistently NOT good than good - at the one thing he's supposed to be able to do - shoot.

We should never have been down 17 to this team. We should never have paid garbage defense in the 1st half.

That said, sometimes that happens and you need your guards to step up and make FT's. Twice in a week now, they've failed to do so, and we're 0-5 instead of 2-3.

But he does not play like that anymore. Can't wait forever. Wish it were different.

Yes, but there is a lot more to a game than the last 2 minutes. Don't get down by 17 and we win the game.

Right but the trend seems to be that we blow it at the end. It's happened in 4 of 5 games. We haven't been down by 17 in most of the games (some we've been leading most of the game).

Another very tough loss to take that could have easily been a win. The reffing was pretty questionable at times tonight definitely a few times where there was no to minimal contact on an Iowa player but Fran seemed to buy a call with his constant whining and a couple of times where Andre and Mo got hammered but no call. I'm actually more hopeful for our chances the rest of the season now than I was after the Michigan game. I'm encouraged by the 2nd half execution and effort but we do still need to rebound better and if we can get that consistently going forward we could get a nice roll starting with a win on Saturday.

Gophers had a better FT% than Iowa tonight. Yaaaaay!!

Gophers left four points on the board with their final stops at the line. Iowa hit their free throws down the stretch.

FREE THROWS DON'T MATTER!

I just read somewhere that we get an automatic bid to the NIT no matter what because we won the tourney last year so we've got that going for us which is nice.

Clearly Nate Mason has earned the leadership role on this team. He's a very impressive young man. He won't be able to reel in the Seniors, but he gives hope for the future of this program.

I think that Hollins is playing hurt and it is effecting every part of his game including the psychological part. He probably needs to have his minutes dropped while Mason, Morris and Buggs get more playing time. Buggs has his limitations, but he played hard in those last 10 minutes. He needs to bring that for 25 to 30 as the season progresses. Nothing we can do about the weakness of our bigs. Just have to ride out the storm until next season.

Bring on Rutgers and perhaps the Goofs can play spoiler for the rest of the season.
