*** OFFICIAL GOPHERS/LEATHERNECKS IN-GAME THREAD ***

Boy, WIU's receivers really battle for the ball up for grabs. Like those guys a lot.

Ok Mitch, let's have one more strong drive into the end zone and try to take something positive away from this brutal game.

lol, Maye' lateral movement looks slow. Especially in slow motion replay. :p

I love the idea of playing Shede on the edge on passing downs. Tougher to double team him.

Maybe but they wouldn't have called it considering the hands to the face call.

Yeah that new rule is interesting. How could you tell a player to quit playing in that scenario. I wonder how that situation would work considering a penalty caused the helmet loss.

It's over... W. Illinois looks tired. Way to keep punching them Gophers!

I'm not going to Jinx it, but no penalties so far today.

UCLA has scored 28 unanswered on the Huskers. They're up 31-21.

look guys. i'm just going to go out and say that although i'm not pleased with our performance to this point, i knew it would happen at some point. every team has a game they just arent into and/or ready to play. but the simplest thing is, you can't lose those games. if we hang on and win this, how it happened is irrelevant. it doesn't change how the team will play one week from now or at the end of the season. at least we know now that this team can respond when sh!t is getting bad for them. we're not that far removed from having teams that would implode in this situation and lose a game like this down the stretch. just wanted to throw in my 2 cents on this whole thing and give some perspective for some who think the sky is falling

Just want to say thanks for this. The level-headedness is a very nice breath of fresh air around here.

I have no idea who said it, but I love it: "Don't get too high when you're high; don't get too low when you're low".

Time to put in Leidner! Oh wait....

In all seriousness, he did a really nice job. Way to stay calm kid and play to your strengths. The one bad play was the fumble.

The team has done a great job of composing themselves after the Leidner fumble - if there is one major positive to take away from this game it's the combination of backup frosh QB Leidner not crumbling after a couple of major mistakes, and the rest of the team picking up the play late.

I'd much prefer (and probably Coach Kill as well!) that the team started off better, stronger, smarter. But this is a good finish. Hope that Nelson and Kill heal quickly and are ready for next week.

Everyone #2 on the depth charts is always only one injury from being #1 on the chart. Way to come up big, Mitch.
