***OFFICIAL BEMIDJI STATE AT MINNESOTA EXHIBITION IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Can someone please tell me definitively if Betts does or does not move well?!?

/s
Coach Johnson had glowing comments on Betts after summer practices, but didn't comment specifically on his quickness.

He looked pretty good dunking on that white D2 kid.
He barely dunked it.
From one exhibition game Betts just blended in to the woodwork. He seems like a kid that watches the game more than attacking the game when he's on the court. I think he'll be consistent in his play, but he's not going to try take over and dominate anyone.

He plays defense, he'll get court time just because of that. They làck size this year, he'll provide some of that.

You think he will leap frog Betts that quickly? Betts also moves well and has size. Grove is a bit bigger and could probably log minutes at Center.
I just don't love Betts' size at the 4 unless he really muscles up. He is a tweener now, muscle up to get to be a 4 or develop more 3 skills.

The only guys they have bigger are Garcia and Edmonds, Mitchell was noticably shorter when standing next to Betts.

Your level of certainty indicates a long history of watching Betts play. Did he grow up in your home town in Colorado?
Oh no, it might sound strange to you, but I've actually watched a number of basketball players play who aren't from Saint Paul, Minnesota. It's weird, huh?

But yeah, I've watched him play. I said he was not a wing from day 1, now pretty much everyone agrees with (including Ben who sees him every day). This isn't because of a razor-sharp basketball mind, it's because it is obvious. I've only seen Frank Mitchell play about 15 minutes of basketball and I also know that he isn't a wing. To be honest, I was a little worried Ben would try to shoe-horn him into playing out of position.

But much like Jack Wilson being a horrible basketball player, it only takes the tiniest bit of common sense and fully functioning brain to notice the obvious.

Could I be wrong? Absolutely.

Does he move well for someone who doesn't move well? Or does he move poorly for someone who moves well?
Context.

Gopherblood is comparing him to Grove (in the post). He moves well for playing in the post. I was comparing him to wings, he doesn't move well for a wing.

That's some scary inside knowledge. You are the only guy in America who thought Ben brought Frank Mitchel to join a centerless team and then play him at wing? Guard? Point guard?

I think his level of certainty indicates a long history of faking knowledge.
No, Bob is just a very confident guy. Nothing wrong with that and it's certainly preferable to weepy whiny types.

But, it does bite him sometimes. Who can forget the last thing Bob said to Wilhelm Keitel just before the start of the Nurember Tribunal: "Don't sweat it. I got this."

Or what Keitel said as he was led off to be hung: "I thought you had this covered."

BL: "Don't blame me. You don't move well enough to play the 3."

Starters were Mitchell C, Mitchell PG, Grigsby W, Garcia PF and Betts.
I think that means Betts started at Wing.
Of course, if Odukale was starting, he would have been a starting wing.
But against Bemidji, Betts was a starting wing.

I have a friend who has seen both Betts and me run the 40yd dash, and he says that Betts is definitely faster.
Of course I am 80-yrs-old and couldn't finish my 40, but he seems very sure of it.
Best two of three?

Haha Sane if you are 80 yrs old, then cheers sir!!

I almost always disagree with your takes, and certainly your obsession with "big wings". But love the passion. Here's to 20 more years (and hopefully much more Gopher hoops success over those 20 years).
