Yup. ON3 is just a high volume ... BS machine.

They put out so much content that folks don't notice the amount that is wrong, usually semi presented as "rumor".

When NIL started they tweeted portal announcements they put out NIL estimates. Basically the number was higher if the guy was leaving a blue blood team and so on. You had them estimating high 6 figures for guys who would end up transferring to FCS ... it was just made up shit.

I suspect they stopped because teams told them to quit it with that shit as it gave everyone dumb ideas.

Go back 5 years, which of the following would you find more preposterous?
  1. Indiana is UNDEFEATED, going into B10 title gam and nobody questions if they are a worthy top seed in CFB playoff
  2. Vanderbilt being in the upper class of the mighty SEC
  3. a 5-star QB decommits from Georgia (yawn).... to go to Vanderbilt (LOL)
  4. a QB who once played at New Mexico St is mentioned as a Heisman candidate
  5. SEC complaining they didn't get enough teams in the CFB playoff (JK)
What has the CFB world come to?

Look at it through the SEC prism.

Opt outs or not, if the SEC has more bowl victories than the B10, and especially if any wins are against B10 teams, every SEC coach, talking head, fan, and ESPN will deem that as proof positive that the SEC "deserves" to get more teams in the playoffs.

Nobody will blink an eye if 50% of tOSU, indiana, or Oregon have players sit, or portal out.

Yeah I got excited for Vandy and got caught by the On3 trap. I typically look for another source when I see On3.

They say they are superior and then complain the B1G team they played was too tough for them. Priceless! The problem isn't that they scheduled a marque non-con match-up. The problem is they weren't good enough to win it!!!

This is only the beginning of the end for the SEC. It will get worse for them. It's amazing how you look at even the limited number of games played between conferences and how the teams the SEC beat just turned out to be bad teams in most cases. Those bad teams were beaten just as badly within their own conferences. The limited number of inter-conference games the SEC lost have not aged well either.

It will take some time for lazy AP & CFP voters to figure it out, but in five years SEC dominance will be a faded memory. The SEC is still winning some recruiting & portal contests based on their legacy of dominance. Things change and inflection points occur, but it takes time for humans to get used to the new reality. The SEC is going to look at the early 2000's like Nebraskan's look at the 90's. Their dominant recruiting geographies just mean so much less now that players can get paid. People will move away from home no problem for more money and greater opportunities. This is America! It's literally a part of our history and culture.

What if the SEC gets five teams into the CFP and they all lose right away? Wouldn't that be amazing? The SEC went 2-3 last year in the CFP with Georgia and Tennessee losing their only games and Texas winning against a very mediocre Clemson, winning in DOUBLE OVERTIME against Arizona State, and then getting doubled up by Ohio State 28-14. Not only has the gap between the B1G and SEC vanished, but the gap between the P2 and ACC/Big 12 might not be as big as we thought either. It's actually still shocking to me how quickly the SEC became average! The memories are still fresh in my mind (and nightmares) of how dominant some of their teams used to be.

We live in interesting (college football) times!
 



You could place Notre Dame into this same argument. They do have a 3-2 record against FBS bowl teams but ranked higher than Miami, a team they lost to. It doesn't seem like a 3-2 record against above average teams would be playoff worthy, but I guess that's par for the course?

BTW, I'm almost, but not quite, to the point of advocating going full Indiana on this and scheduling only creampuffs in non-con. Early games against peers like Cal, UNC, MS State etc. are fun and a good measure where the team is at but might be going away.

And we all know Pavia is working on some sort of lawsuit to get more years of eligibility because the dude has zero shot of making it in the NFL as a QB. :}

Looking at reports he isn't exactly shutting down the recruiting sites as being wrong so he may still be a flip afterall and the recruiting sites managed to get the scoop before the kid could pull his hat switchero at the signing day or something like that.
 

SEC = talking heads of ESPN, History of excellence with Alabama and home turf "playoff" victories -- the ability to create a narrative that suits them well. The narrative the SEC was deeper and the B1G is only 3 great teams won the AP rankings. Imagine what Iowa would have been like if they were treated like a Tennessee. They played better comp, won more and still did not get treated like a mid of the road SEC team because of the ESPN narrative that the B1G is week except for the top. It didn't matter that the B1G destroyed the comp in last years Bowls and will do it again this year.

To be honest I hope the ACC gets left without a playoff bid and SEC gets 5 or 6 teams. This way the ACC and B12 will realize the B1G was doing them a favor with a 4-4-2-2-1 system. I hope this system gets vote in because it will minimize the talking head machine that is owned by the SEC.
