Official 2027 Gophers Football Recruiting Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Rumors

Shakopee coach must hate Fleck. 3 players going division I. Not one to the Gophers.
Betton (Penn St) - fits perfectly in Penn St’s 3-Safety defense (basically as a big nickel who would be on the field every down). I’m sure that was an easy sell from the Penn St staff. Also, when Campbell and staff were at Iowa St, they were one of Betton’s first, if not his first offer

Ombati (Nebraska) - spoke about having built a relationship with Dennis Dottin-Carter (DL coach who was let go after the ‘25 season). Minnesota wasn’t able to make up ground after that

Loughlin (Northwestern) - Gophers didn’t offer

And fwiw Shakopee currently has five rising seniors with D1 offers. The three mentioned above plus LB Andrew McGee (UND commit) and ATH/WR Jaxon Brown (son of former Wayzata coach Lambert Brown, who transferred to Shakopee this offseason).

And if you want to forward the Lakeville conspiracy narrative, Betton played youth sports for Lakeville North up until HS (his pops is Shakopee’s head football coach)

We don’t question whether the high school coach likes us when a school has one kid that doesn’t choose us, I’m not sure we need to question it just because this school has 2.
Agreed plus we just put one of his guys in the NFL and another one that will get a lot of run in the secondary if he stays healthy

Love these mid/late cycle, fast rising guys. His positional flexibility will be nice too.
Ive gone to a couple Maryville games over the last couple years. I've got a few friends out there . I'm no scout but in a couple years this kid will be solid... I love getting Southern kids... Love h.s. football here

Im still holding out hope for Yebit, but I think this may close that door a little bit
He went OU's camp ~a week ago even though he doesn't have an offer from them, so it seems like he is holding out for more high profile ($$$) offers. Even if he commits here, I'm not so sure is heart would really be in Minneapolis and I doubt he would be around for more than a year. I'd take the production, but I wouldn't get attached to the kid either.

In today's college athletics (business)I don't think it matters where your heart is at... It's now a job and they just have to go out and perform.. just like the NFL, Always chasing that next big paycheck

I think the issue is we probably wouldn't expect much out of him his true freshman year and then he'd bolt, really offering us almost nothing in return.

If he did well freshman year then we'd really struggle to keep him because he seems more about the money than the program.

A week ago, I said it looks like he might be shopping for dollars, but him going to the Oklahoma camp without an offer may indicate he’s waiting for one. He is from Oklahoma and doesn’t seem interested in his Oklahoma State offer, which could mean he really is down to Minnesota or TCU, unless the Sooners offer.

Again... Unless you are born and raised absolutely in love with (insert school here) it's NOW about the money... It's no longer college athletics. It's big business... You can say "we will struggle to keep them here" about 95%+ of the recruits if they did well their freshman year...

It's time everyone changes their perception about what this has become... It's all about the $$$ bag...

Yebit is no longer warm to the Gophers! He’s gone!
I mean he was never really here to begin with since he never committed. Bummer because he looked like a good prospect but that is just the way recruiting goes. You win some and you lose some.
