Official 2025 Roster Movement Thread - Who's In and Who's Out?

I’ve thought the same. Doesn’t seem quite fast enough. Surprised they didn’t have him bulk up a bit and play a hybrid LB role.
I think he's going to be a pretty good college safety. I think he has the tools for it.

He just happened to have been at a program with two really special players at S. I actually really like the portal for guys like him.

so Ryan Burns and Daniel House just did a new episode of the Gopher Gridiron podcast. it's almost 2 hours long. they do about 20 minutes on the changes in the coaching staff, and then they spend close to an hour-and-a-half going through the transfer portal players - incoming and outgoing.

they go through all the position groups, talk about what impact the transfer players could have, but also discuss younger players who could be in line for more playing time.

if you want a fairly complete walk through the roster, position by position, this is it.

a lot of talk about the OL.

(warning - if you take a drink every time House says "schematic," you will be in a coma before the episode is over.....)

Thanks! I like listening to these on a long drive.

Added Lewis to the outgoing list. Grad transfer so not bound by the portal window rules.

Officially signed

This one probably more for the 2025 recruiting thread but good news I guess :).

Kid put up video game numbers in high school. Will be interesting to see if he can translate it to this level. Doesn't seem to have garnered much power 4 interest for one reason or another.

Many kids have their generals done when they enter college now. Many can't read at grade level, but they have their generals done. :ROFLMAO:
Surprisingly, many Doctors cannot read at grade level.

Well, he's been hitting the books. Redshirt freshman already leaving as a graduate transfer.
Thought it seemed pretty unreal that a redshirt freshman could already be a grad transfer....probably because he wasn't a redshirt freshman but rather a redshirt sophomore in 2024. Still impressive to graduate that quick but graduating after 2.5-3 years seems way more likely than graduating after 1.5-2.

He was in the 2022 class, redshirted in 2022, played in 2023 and 2024.

If they have their general education done they can read…..except at U of North Carolina, where classes are optional for athletes.

Pretty sure he is a RS sophomore, think the article is inaccurate. Still a good accomplishment though.
Yep he was a redshirt sophomore so fast for graduating but not ridiculously fast.

Still around 14 over the limit, plus they will sign a Edge and a CB transfer this spring.

In the old days, wouldn’t they have been in our General College…. ;)
I can remember Sid going absolutely nuts when the U eliminated General College. I dated a girl who attended General College. She didn't have a cure for cancer rolling around her brain, but she was smart enough to dump me.

Current roster that includes early enrollees. Call it the spring roster.

10- WR
8-TE
7-RB
6-QB
15-OL

1-LS
2-P
3-K

13-LB
17-DL
18-DB

100 total players
How many of the 22 commits does that factor in? Guessing there is going to be a decent amount of post spring movement as well to get to 105 for the fall

I believe 8 freshmen in early. So about 115 players on team.

So quite a few to still transfer out then before next season hopefully will continue to be depth pieces as opposed to key guys.

I would hope any key guys would have moved on by now... Hopefully it will be guys that aren't happy about how spring practice plays out

Will be interesting to see if it walk on types or scholarships that walk. Quite a few walk ons still on roster.

I just went thru the 2025 roster. Only difference from Maxy is that I count 11 not 10 WRs. So, I get current roster at 101. This includes all 15 transfers plus 8 early enrollees. If you add the 14 signed Freshman not yet enrolled, the current, "fully loaded" roster is exactly as Maxy says: 115.

A lot of walk-ons are already gone from the roster. But the roster still includes several walk-ons, some of whom have actually played a lot (and may have earned annual scholarships), and others who have hardly seen the field (e.g., LeCaptain, Mau, DiSano, Bierman, Q. Redding, Conzemius, Shikenjanski, LeGrant, K. Johnson, J. Hunter, J. Tinnen, O. Eyafe, E. Carrier, H. Bruns, Finaly(?)). Also includes a couple of scholarship players who seems to have never caught on and a couple of high-upside "projects" who might be expendable, depending on the rest of the roster.

So, it should be workable numerically to get to the 105 roster limit after spring practice. But, to make room for the new Frosh enrollees, the Gophs will have to cut loose some really good guys who have given a lot to the program, which kind of sad. The 105 roster limit is surprisingly lean; not a lot of room for walk-on development types. But cuts (and/or defections) will have to be deeper if PJ brings in more transfers after the spring portal period. Brave new world.
