Official 2024 Gophers Football Recruiting Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Rumors

Agreed. I think with another DL and OL commit from this weekend, they don’t expect either to come here.
I am delighted with this class if the out-of-state guys that sign are as good or better than the instate guys who do not sign. They may be better players coming from football states with better high school programs overall than Minnesota.

2023 had a total of 3 decommitments
2022 - 1
2021 - 6
2020 - 7
2019 - 8

Recent trend last couple of years seems most will sign. Maybe PJ had a fundamental change in philosophy because the last few classes committed early and stuck for the most part.

Maybe also shows the program is on solid footing and a desirable place to land!

I think each one of these deserves its own context but that would take ages. I think this post shows a decent trend though. Behavior, NIL, development, and proximity to home will always be issues that we deal with. It does seem that the staff has found the recipe to cut back on decommits though.

There really is zero point in putting any real thought in decommitments. Every school deals with them and reason why guys decommit isn't that important. Some might be poached, some might just have a change of heart.

Coaches are always working on back up plans and if one kid drops off it opens up a spot for someone else.

On 247 I see he did take an unofficial visit to Stanford before his official to the Gophers. Didn’t see anything about any upcoming visits.

no, he visited Stanford after committing to the gophers. Look for VA Tech to be his next visit.

Jason Bargy was dropped by Fleck due to his assault on a girlfriend. He didn't decommit.

Gilmore liked this tweet. Who should we go after with the spot we were saving for him?

Someone should tell him that coach will be fired within the next 2 years.
I think any program could say that about another besides maybe Bama and Iowa

I will say the OU class is quite underwhelming up until this though

Great Read, per the Athletic: Why Nathan Roy, No. 1 football recruit in Wisconsin, committed to Minnesota and P.J. Fleck

Roy’s commitment is significant for several reasons. He is rated in the 247Sports Composite as a four-star prospect and the No. 1 player in Wisconsin, which means the Badgers will miss out on the top-ranked player from the state for the first time since 2016, when four-star offensive lineman Ben Bredeson signed with Michigan. Roy becomes the highest-rated commit during Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck’s tenure and the fifth-highest-rated Gophers commit in the internet recruiting rankings era.

“It’s a milestone for me,” Roy said. “The thing with college is that everybody who comes to college, they were No. 1 on their team or a top-rated recruit. So I’m kind of just looking forward to working my tail off at Minnesota. I can’t wait to get there and start being a Gopher.”

Roy’s proximity to Madison, coupled with his talent and Wisconsin’s desire to keep him in the state, leads to some natural questions. What happened? How does this affect Minnesota? And what, if anything, does this mean for the Badgers?

“P.J. is awesome,” Ben said. “High energy, high intensity. I saw that on day one when we were down there for a game. He came up to us when we were on the field. You could just tell the energy that he has. He’s just very transparent. We had several office calls with him. I liked everything that he’s doing with the program from a competitive standpoint, a developmental standpoint. I think my son is in good hands with P.J. Fleck and Brian Callahan.”

Go Gophers!!

Carter liked his visit. I think he would be the one if Gilmore does go to Oklahoma or elsewhere.

They may well have been holding a spot for Gilmore but given the size of the class already I am not sure they would necessarily add someone else if he doesn't commit here.

Fleck is not getting fired in the next 2 years. OU's expectations are very high, they've shown a willingness to fire people quickly, and will be failing in the SEC 2 years from now.

We were recruiting him before but we have 2 TE commits so probability not.

Someone should tell him that coach will be fired within the next 2 years.
And if they do he will be replaced by a highly sought after coach. OU is a great job with tons of money and easy access to Texas recruits

Still, who wants to commit to play for some mystery coach?

Money and access, yes. Great job after they join the SEC? I doubt it. They struggle often in B12, they'll struggle moreso in SEC.

2 CB’s for Gilmore to Oklahoma. It looks like he’s gone.

He met his “social media love for the home team” quota so he’s free to commit elsewhere now
