The Maple Grove QB (Jacob Kilzer) was just named POY in Minnesota. Looks like he has a Gopher offer, although I haven't seen anything posted on here. Is that offer a preferred walk-on? I've only seen him play in the Prep Bowl.....anyone who's seen him play more have a scouting report on him? Thanks.
Yes, it's a walk-on offer.

Hopefully when the dust settles on who we have in the portal and don't, we make it a scholarship offer. I'm not 100% sure the kid has the arm to play in the Big 10 but if he does he could be really special.
Have friends that have kids that play for a couple different NW metro high schools that play against MG and they all rave about Kilzer.

FWIW, RB verbal Darius Taylor elevated to 5.8 to 4 star by Rivals.

I think Michigan's Corum has another year and Edwards has two. Hope he stays 100% committed!
I know you can never count anything as 100% certain in recruiting but I will be shocked if he doesn't sign on signing day. He seems fully on board and ready to go. If he was going to decommit it would have happened when Michigan offered.

He's a baseball guy too. I like all the smart football minds/athletes you get possibly get.

He's slated to enroll early with his teammate Drew Viotto, so that makes me think he will stay us, plus he was offered on November 8th and hasn't wavered since.

With the transfer portal, it makes the signing day less important. If someone decommits, big deal.

Might need to if they want him. He already has NDSU and Ohio as offers. Always impressive to get walk ons that turn down NDSU and MAC teams.

Yep, I'd offer. You can take more chances nowadays.
I think that has to be the strategy. Take more chances, especially locally, I think there is good evidence that they tend to stick around longer to develop vs kids from further away. Can find more sure bets via the portal if needed.

The Recruiting Wars have gotten more challenging for the Gophers with the coaching upgrades in the last two years.

On Kilzer, maybe I'm crazy, but I remember reading somewhere that the Gophers were looking at him as a Baseball prospect. I checked a couple of HS Baseball sites but couldn't find any corroboration.
