Attended the spring practice today and here are a few observations:
QBs: Leidner with the 1s, Streveler ran with the 2s, Rhoda with the 3s. Didn't see McKinzy participate in the scrimmage portions or passing shells. In the individual QB drills, he looked solid and appears to have a big arm.
RBs: Edwards is going to help this year. Definitely brings speed, quickness, and elusiveness that we haven't had.
TEs: Wozniak is a legit 6"10", the tallest football player I've ever seen. Despite his height, he's filled out pretty well and can move around. Duke Anyanwu has really bulked up and looks significantly stronger.
WRs: We still need help here. Thank goodness we have reinforcements coming in June.
OL: Bak was injured, and Foster Bush practiced with the 1s. Alex Mayes was filling in at 3rd team LT (I didn't know what position he was targeted for). Christenson still isn't cleared for contact, everything else looked as expected.
DL: Was impressed by the size and ability of Demaris Peppers. Played with the 2s, will be in the rotation this year and should be a really nice player when he's an upperclassman. A guy that I hadn't heard of until a few weeks ago, Robert Ndono-Lay (sp?) was also in with the 2s quite a bit. Hank Ekpe has really gotten bigger, nice to have a DE with his size.
LBs: I was concerned about this group previously with losing Manuel and Hill, but not after today. Campbell was willing to mix it up inside; Laster and Poock both impressed me. This group won't be as experienced as last year's, but it may be better by the end of the season.
DBs: Nothing really jumped out, we know this group is solid. McGhee will be a player.
