Official 2013 Class Recruiting Updates Thread

Can never rule out the last minute surprise but I would agree probably no 4 stars this year. Recruiting is such a crap shoot, this has the appearance of a solid class yet when you stack it up against other Big Ten schools it looks very average.

Next season we should start to get a pretty good indication if Kill's systems and the staffs ability to recruit lower ranked players (by comparison to the rest of the conference) that fit their systems can work in the Big Ten against teams that on paper are playing with superior athletes.

Michigan, OSU, PSU (little different with the sanctions), and Nebraska will consistently out recruit us on school prestige alone. Hopefully we can recruit competitively with the rest of the pack. I think we have some underrated guys, like I don't get why Damien Wilson is a 2 star guy when people have him listed as one of the top juco LBs. He'll likely have as big an impact as anyone from this class next year.

I love the Dixon get! I think we would still welcome Duke R. with open arms – he's the type of player the U doesn't typically get on that side of the ball.

Palm Beach Post: Seminole Ridge LB Rayfield Dixon commits to Minnesota

The first-team All-Area selection made 89 tackles, including 16 for loss, and six sacks this past season, helping Seminole Ridge reach the regional finals for the second time in three seasons.

“The relationship was big,” interim Seminole Ridge coach Justin Hilliker said of Dixon’s choice. “He really looked at every aspect of the decision and was very thorough.”

Dixon took all five of his NCAA-allowed official visits, beginning in late September with a trip to Purdue. He traveled to West Virginia in October and Minnesota and Louisville in December. In January, he visited Bowling Green.

From the video Dixon appears to be more of a pass rusher, obviously, only a highlight tape though! Agreed on Riley, and I would even go as far as to say Campbell as well.

Dixon's commit should help should Kill decide to offer his h.s. teammate Silas Spearman.

Please enlighten me

Yeah, it's a little disheartening, but my opinion is that most, if not all, of the 4-stars we are able to realistically sign at this point are going to be in-state guys. We never had even the slightest chance with Onwualu, and Brookins decided he'd rather play for the enemy than show home state pride and go with the school who was there from the beginning.

We will have as many as 4 in-state 4-stars next year (Jones for sure, Ragnow likely, Stelter and Hassenauer possible but not likely) and I think we are in good standing with all 4. Getting 8 or 9 wins against a relatively soft schedule next year would go a long ways in showing us how Kill can recruit when he's proven to have a decent team on the field.

"Soft Schedule" ??? read in my "Playoffffffs?" voice

Where are those wins coming from? Absolutely we will be better but we do not play Purdue and Illinois for starters...apples to apples.

- No OSU

- Purdue and Illinois replaced by Penn St. and Indiana - wash at worst, possible difficulty downgrade

- most of the tough games (Neb, Wis, Ia) at home

The only games I look at and immediately go "we have no chance" are @Mich and vs. Nebraska. That leaves 10 games. Can we win 8 or 9? Not likely, but possible.

I also noticed you removed the "relatively" prior to "soft schedule" when you selectively quoted me.

I agree with most of what you said except for the bold part Dpo. I do not see Illinois being significantly better next season, so it is a little harder to convince me that Indiana is a 'downgrade' from Illinois. The Indiana game is going to be a real crapshoot in my mind. Depending on what Indiana team shows up of course. I have a hard time believing it is a wash, at worst. I feel it is a little bit of an upgrade, but, again, that's just me.

On Penn State, yes, I agree that they will most likely be worse off next season as they lose some significant senior leadership. But, again, O'Brien did a heck of a coaching job this last season, so hard to say what you will get out of PSU. I feel they will regress a little, but that is just me.

Given that right now the only games we would be favored in would be Iowa at home and possibly Indiana on the road, I don't know how anyone could consider this a "relatively easy schedule." An easy schedule would be what Wisconsin gets each year: a guaranteed 4 Big Ten games against Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and the Gophers.

I'm assuming as a CB through correct? His rivals profile lists him as a RB but the only youtube video I could find on him (from 2011) has all his highlights on defense and special teams.

This is a pretty interesting statement. Purdue was a wreck this year, with the exception of a couple decent performances playing up to ND and OSU. Indiana's vector is on the way up, especially if they can improve their defense. Their recruiting the last couple years is pretty impressive relative to their recent history.

At PSU for at Illinois being a wash/downgrade? Illinois was possibly the worst BCS AQ team in the country this year. PSU still has plenty of talent and still plays very tough at Happy Valley.

I think as a rb. I guess he didn't really play rb until this past year.

Conor is an interesting football player. He has good size, he has a big arm (good pitcher) and he is fairly athletic. I think he's the perfect walk-on for the QB spot. He is a perfect fit (stylistically), he's a smart guy and a definite leader. I'm not sold on him being able to be a Big 10 QB, but I think he's athletic (and large) enough to eventually play WR or S.

@DP_The_Great_: Memphis so lame, I can't wait till I be in the Sota

Can someone help me get my Spearmans straight?

Reggie Spearman is a LB from IL, I doubt he comes here, probably going to IL or IA. Silas Spearman is a RB from FL (same school as Dixon), he doesn't have a gopher offer right now, he's probably going to BC.
