Oakland v NDSU right now...ESPN2...check it out!

I might add, that I bet the NCAA will attempt to get NDSU, UNI, and Wisconsin all podded into MSP. Ticket sales are said to be dismal up to this point for the Metrodome games. Those three schools might bring in 10,000+ extra fans combined.

My guess is that NDSU and UNI will come her with KU or MSU. The only reason I think WI doesn't end up here is they have not "earned" the home court advantage they would receive by being placed in MN.

NDSU may be about the same distance from the Twin Cities as is Madison, but it's only about a mile out of the state of Minnesota. It's practically a suburb of Minnesota.

Maybe its because I spent three years in the Fargo-Moorhead area that I hate NDSU so much and my experience was the lakes Bisons of the world we're the norm, not the exception. I'm glad for the kids and coaches but the arrogance coming down 94 is going to be hard to take. Already got two calls from NDSU friends who immediately started taking shots at the Gophers, all I can say is enjoy this great season because it will be awhile before you get back. Coach Miles had this planned out for the past six years when they recruited the Woodside,Winkleman, Nelson group, then redshirted them so they would be seniors for this first year. I can't watch Woodside without having bad Rico Tucker thoughts.

Congratulations and good luck to NDSU. However, I do have mixed feelings about this, as lakesbison will be made happy by this, and I don't think anyone wants that to happen.

Madison is the same distance away and have just as many, if not more alumni. Northern Iowa is just as close as well? Are they local too?

I don't mean to split hairs but Minnesotans absolutely love to find the local angle on everything. Yeah, NDSU has some Minnesota kids on their roster but so does Cornell, Kansas, and Wisconsin. I'm sure there's a Minnesota kid somewhere on the Northern Iowa roster as well.

Art, who cares? They are a few miles off the border and have made the tourney for the first time with a lot of Minnesota players, it will get some run...deal with it!

Why do you always have something up your ass about every topic? Yeah, the Minnesota media likes to play up local stories, but if you have ever lived elsewhere, you would find other town's media does that too.

Did you remind them of the ars whupping the Gophers put on them a couple months ago? Or the fact that they haven't beaten a top 100 team outside of Oral Roberts?? Great for the NDSU players, but I feel the same way about the delusional NDSU fans.

NDSU fans have nothing to talk trash about to Gopher fans in basketball. Period. Even our crappy teams of the past few years have managed to pound them every year. I'm happy for their program and players, but that's about it.

As for their fans, don't care about their views in the least. The fact is that the Summitt League or whatever is a low-major league for a reason. The Gophers would kill most teams in that league on a regular basis, having already pounded the Bison the last time we saw them. Let them have their fun, but honestly, they have a ways to go before they can talk trash to Minnesota on the basketball court.

Actually, as the story goes, those guys all committed before the NCAA changed the probation period from 15 to 5 years. It was after that change that Miles decided to redshirt the four of them. None of them knew they'd be eligible to make the tourney.

I think you could see:

SOUTH
2-Kansas vs. 15-Cleveland State
7-West Virginia vs. 10-Wisconsin

MIDWEST
4-Missouri vs. 13-NDSU
5-Marquette vs. 12-UNI

I think Michigan State will get sent to nearby Dayton in the 1st round.

They're not local, but I'm willing to bet the Twin Cities media will attempt to spin the local angle like NDSU is located in the Twin Cities.

art my boy - in case you haven't noticed the minneapolis media doesn't really care about north dakota news or NDSU for that matter, so why would they try to spin this news at all?! if it even shows up on the sports portion of the minneapolis news it will likely be a quick blurb and a mention of the minnesota natives on the team since no one down here in mpls would care about any other aspect of the NDSU team understandably. end of story.

no thanks! don't give a rip about the NDSU cows. that is all. :D

If you don't care, why did you click on this thread in the first place??

And if the Gophers don't make the tourney, I guarantee the strib and pioneer press will latch on to the NDSU story like nobody's business. If you disagree, than you are a fool.

Well done for NDSU.

Good for the Minnesota kids on the roster and makes that game of our non con schedule look that much better.

just so i could let the whole world know that i don't care about NDSU! :D

and if you really think that the minneapolis market (except for some of the north dakota transplants) gives a sh!t about north dakota sports then you sir are the fool. now settle down brotha.....

you proved my point. thank you! it is not on the main home page of the star tribune. it is buried within the sports section of the website towards the bottom of the page. it is a quick blurb. it is an AP story (not written by a strib reporter) and the main focus of the headline/story is more the minnesota kid who hit the winning shot (ben woodside) than north dakota.

again most people who are actually FROM the minneapolis metro area originally (not north dakotans or NDSU alums living in minneapolis now) don't care about anything NDSU related. just deal with it. as ron burgundy says: "it's science!" :)

No offense, but those of you in the actual metro area tend to be a bit ignorant of just how far the MSP television market extends. Yes, Fargo is it's own market, but the MSP market goes all the way to the Canadian border up the central part of the state, coming withn less then 100 miles of Fargo. So yes, some people in MSP televison market would care. But the MSP tv stations don't even bother to include those areas on the weather maps, why would they talk about the basketball team?

For someone who doesn't seem to care, you seem to care a whole lot.

There's an article on NDSU that is more than just a little "blurb". There also is article on SDSU's women's team. The Star Tribune is sold all over the state and into the Dakotas, Fargo is part of the market the Star Tribune sells to.

I see no relevance to making a distinction between people from the metro area and people who moved here from elsewhere.

hey, one more post and you will be at 1,666! freaky huh?!

oh by the way did you say something?

perhaps it is because the minneapolis metro is where the large majority of the state lives. so the information on the news is understandably stuff that is relevant to that majority population. 99.99% of the people in minneapolis are not at all concerned with what the temperature/weather is going to be in like in little falls, mn tomorrow.

So 99.99 % of the people in the Minneapolis/St. Paul tv market live in the metro? Not quite.

I live in Minneapolis, have no affiliation to NDSU, but sat and watched the entire game last night. If you are a fan of basketball in minnesota, you DO care about NDSU. What a story of a team that is a majority of MN kids that accomplished their goal from when they stepped on campus 5 years ago. Just a great game.

Thank You

Gopher Fans - Thank you for the support of the NDSU basketball team, the players and coaches appreciate it. The expectations of a mid-major basketball team are definitely lower than the Big Ten, but that is what makes the experience of going to the Big Dance so special for Bison alumni. It may not be repeatable on a consistent basis, but nonetheless very damn special.

However, did anyone else find the irony in Bronko Nagurski Gopher indicating the Metro's lack of concern for out-state Minnesota, yet his forum moniker is of a legendary player from the northwoods (International Falls)?

I'm a fan of basketball in Minnesota and couldn't care less about NDSU. Where does that leave me???:p

But seriously, I'm happy for the kids that play for NDSU and are from Minnesota.

not quite, but i would venture upwards of 70-80%. i love how defensive and upset outstate minnesota people can get when it comes to metro vs. outstate discussions. it is hilarious.

the irony is killing me! killing me i tells ya! killing me....

anyways, not sure i said the minneapolis metro area has an utter "lack of concern for outstate minnesota" as you so eloquently put it. but, i think there is some truth that most in the metro area want our news to be focused on the minneapolis metro as much as possible SINCE THAT IS WHERE WE LIVE!!! there are newspapers and tv stations in other parts of the state who can cover outstate minnesota issues and sports just fine. sometimes there seems to be this strange expectation on the part of some that the minneapolis media should pay just as much attention and focus just as much of their time on outstate minnesota as it does the metro area. why is that? is it an inferiority thing? just kidding!

exactly. this idea that just because half the roster of NDSU is from minnesota we have to somehow be fans of their program and happy for what they accomplished last night is strange to say the least. very strange.

i am also a fan of basketball in minnesota and couldn't care less about NDSU.
