Norwood Teague Next on ESPN 1500

"You're right on Flip, but people aren't going to believe him. Do you really think the pro-Flip crowd is going to think anything but Teague micromanaged Flip?"

And the anti-Flip crowd will be pissed that all the screams about "nepotism" were in vain, but yeah, I certainly catch your drift. Judd is "who he is". He's got that right and you and I have the right to bot listen or dislike him for it.

"America, what a country!"

Just from a résumé standpoint, I'm surprised that it was Balado taking the DBO job and not Young. Balado's experience looks commensurate with a typical first-time Big Ten assistant coach. Young has one year of formal coaching experience.

As a UM alum living in Madison, I am total agreement with this comment, which also extends to the print media (read Tom Oates). I believe this difference strikes, fundamentally, at why UW is so much stronger than UM in b-ball and football over generations. Minnesotans (at least the TC media) are LOOKING for reasons to complain about or disparage UM athletic programs, which establishes a negative perception and undermines recruiting. Of course, this is the kiss of death given the importance of recruiting.

I am not sure why this is the case. Pessimist genetics? Too much sour weather? Bad apples in the media? All of the above?

I will go one further: UW is universally loved and supported by your average WI resident. Sadly, UM; not so much. Don't be afraid to support your flagship university unconditionally, you silly Minnesotans! You'd be surprised at the dividends.

+1 Everything here in Madison is and always was pro badger. If any scandal arises...it is swept under the rug and very few people especially the media, make an issue of it. For Gopher fans, that would be referred to "drinking the kool-aid". After living through the last decade of disappointment, I really is okay to be excited for the future. It really was not long ago that UW sucked in both football in basketball. The worm can turn for the U too!

Hey Madison lovers, the badgers haven't won a rose bowl or been to a final four since 2000. As a frame of reference to how long ago that was, Tyus Jones was 4 years old at the time.

Easy there big guy! All we are saying is that they still support the team and aren't as negative. I can't stand the badgers nor I'm sure do any of the other people that live here and comment on this site. If you were smart which apparently you aren't...you would see we graduated from the U of MN and obviously are pro Gophers. Nobody can argue that they have had more successs since 2000 or since Tyus was 4 years old.

Let me try and change your mind: DBO = can't recruit.

I agree that Balado might make sense as an assistant coach for Minnesota, but Young's recruiting is precisely why you have him on staff. He must be an assistant that goes out recruiting.

Yep, I have a feeling Young will bring in some very good players from the NYC area. I'm really excited about his AAU connections and what it means for recruiting.

Shaka Smart wasn't offered the job, AD says

Gophers athletics director Norwood Teague said he did not offer Shaka Smart the basketball job, but that he talked often to his former Virginia Commonwealth coach about the University of Minnesota position and the program.

"I talk to him about the job here all of the time -- about what we have and what we're doing -- because we're friends," Teague, the former VCU AD, said in a phone interview Thursday morning, April 11. "We talk about everything. We talk about things outside of basketball every week. So the Shaka thing is (no big deal). We're very close. We talk all of the time."

I seem to remember somebody saying the exact same thing several days into the coaching search.

Do you remember the people who said that Teague didn't offer it to anyone except Pitino? Haven't heard from them either, but at least they're not saying that Teague "has no idea what happened" either. ;)

DDDDubbbaayyyy is the the the the wwwwooorrrst of of of of all all alal TTTTTIME. He's a petulant 3rd grader with multiple speech impediments. Not to mention talk over people, interrupt, scream and yell.

A friend of my wife works for one of those kidney dialysis places and the bulk of their clientele are former and current addicts who have blown out their whole renal system. As you might imagine they're not the funnest people in the world to deal with. Perhaps Dubay's annoying personality traits are due to his extensive narcotic use and subsequent brain damage it causes.

Is that what is wrong with some GopherHolers??? :)

I would guess his mother didn't breast feed.
