Niko’s roster construction

To put a budget to this:

1-Asuma-$400K
2-?-$1 million (Evans)
3-? -$600K
4-Crocker-Johnson-$600K
5-? $1 million

Starting Line-up Total: $3.6 million

6-Bench-$400K
7-Bench-$300K
8-Bench-?-$200K
9- Bench-?-$150K
10-Grove-$100K
11-Shinholster -$100K

12-Bench-?-$100K
13-Bench-?-$100K
14-Walk-on
15-Walk-on

Bench Total: $1.45 million

Total $5.05 million

I couldn't care less about budget conjecture. Whomever Niko gets and how much that costs is irrelevant.

Hopefully they start contracts like coaches have, where you can get commitments for 2-4 years unless a heavy buyout of the contract. There is a lot of talk of coaches wanting this, so why not lead the way and start.

Earth to Major "whoever the Fck you are"....

brilliant observation, coach obviously must be a failure since he hasn't filled out the team in his first week of being at the U.
I didn't write or indicate that. I like the Medved hire, I am just interested in who he is going after and trying to bring in. We need players so it is interesting to follow. Plus, it does tell us something about Medved. The type of players he brings in. And I think it is positive if we see players from CSU following him, that shows loyalty and that there is a positive relationship with the coach.
Do you think anyone other than Fox and Garcia would follow Johnson if he was hired elsewhere? I don't.

Take the $100k from each of the bench spots 10-13 and bump that 3 spot to $1m. If you have to fill the end of the bench with guys you pull from the intramural leagues then so be it.

The point was to see what information on players we may be recruiting is. I knew of two possible names. I have more now.

Last week, there was a posting that they had reached out to Eaglestaff (committed to South Carolina), Gavin Walsh of Binghamton (forward who led conference in rebounding), and Bryce Lindsay of James Madison (good shooter). Both Walsh and Lindsay are sophs

There just has to be patience with the process. Players are visiting multiple schools, listening to offers and have agents involved. If players are signing, they likely had a connection or were recruited in the past by the school or staff. They likely also got a top salary.

Starters and role players from major programs are testing the water. San Diego's Gwath tested the waters and now withdrew back to SDSU. Might see more of that.

Portal recruiting has to be insane for coaching staffs. In addition to the 1000+ already in the portal, another 50 players or so went in yesterday, a couple have already gone in today and there will certainly be more.

There are some fans that treat it like fantasy basketball where you just go out and pick the guys you want for your roster but it is so much more complicated then that.

In a crazy short window of time you have to vet players, figure out who you can realistically get, find a way to evaluate them and get them on campus while at the same time knowing that tons of other teams are doing the exact same thing and going after the exact same players.

And before the resident naysayers get all bent out of shape....this isn't some excuse or whatever, it is just a general comment on the reality of the current state of college basketball. Every coach has to navigate this same landscape and find a way to assemble the best possible team that they can.

Add to it that there are still teams outside the NCAA tournament playing and those players will enter as well after they lose.

I am encouraged to hear Evans is on campus!

Added Keshawn Williams who is a CSU player in the portal.

Would like to see Niko reel in a difference making big. Here’s hoping!

I don't think either of them would follow Johnson anywhere... I think they played at Minnesota in spite of him, not because of him
Fox didn’t sound that he played here "in spite of him" when he commented post Johnson’s tenure on Johnson’s ability and funding levels.

Of course that may have been just Fox passing up on an opportunity to kick someone who was down, like some on GH are wont to do. No names will be mentioned!

Heide? WTF? Have you seen anywhere that he is even remotely interested in transferring? He already left home for a vastly superior program (which is also his father's alma mater, incidentally), and should he choose to transfer, he'd also have many other vastly superior programs lining up for his services.

I'll happily eat crow if hell freezes over and he plays for the Gophers, but I'm quite confident I needn't be concerned about that even existing in the realm of possibilities.

As long as you were creating pie-in-the sky scenarios, why didn't you create a 2025-26 Gophers lineup with Flagg and Knueppel in it?
Yes, it would.

He's a RS Soph who was always going to take a while to develop, and he was a rotation player on a deep and good Purdue team, not to mention that he contributed very positively in the Tournament, and had the announcers fawning all over him. I assure you he would have many, many schools eagerly bidding for him if he left Purdue (which, again, he is almost certainly not doing).

GopherHole is always funny this way - somehow, two things are simultaneously happening: a guy sucks at his current school and is eager to transfer (because reasons), and yet we'd be excited to have him in our starting lineup. Cognitive dissonance is a funny thing, I guess.

Here in reality, if he did transfer from Purdue (not happening) and transferred to the Gophers (super-duper not happening), he'd immediately be our best player and the centerpiece of our roster for the next 2 years.

Neither is happening, but I couldn't disagree with you more on which is more realistic.

How do you want your crow cooked? 😎

When I say "in spite of," what I mean is I think Fox would've come here for pretty much any coach, and I don't think he had any loyalty to Johnson that would've caused him to transfer if he got a different job. Not trying to imply that Fox felt any spite for Johnson.
