New Coach within '30 hours'?

Beutuiful. . .

Everybody panic! The new coach is going to be named soon, and whoever it is he's no good. If he is any good, he'll leave for another job next year - may not even wait until the season is over. If we go to the Rosebowl, that will be the year California finally has that big earthquake.

I'm mad because I don't have the slightest idea what's going on, but I'm madder still because I don't like what's going on.

It's got to be Edsall because we have absolutely no idea if he has even been contacted. What more proof do you need?

and way too true. The good thing about the length and secrecy of the process is that it has worn me out so that by the time someone is named, I will be so numb that no matter who it is, it will seem okay - or at least I will have seen the plusses and minuses of all of these guys and have come to realize that none are horrible in a Brewsterian kind of way.

This is true. If it's anyone but Trestman or Chryst it will be hard to be upset because it 'could have been worse.'

I'll say this...if the timing of the hire is right...Gus Malzahn would make TOO much sense. This would fulfill Maturi's statements about a "surprise" interest, as well as something about "the deep south". That Auburn staff should know that the sky is going to fall on them VERY soon - and wouldn't be surprised if more than a few of them are looking to get out now. I would back it - as I've grown up a Razorback fan for life (born and raised, now here for 20 yrs) and he has a LOAD of upside to bring in a great staff. And don't forget this, he's got to be salivating just a LITTLE....to get Mister Gray behind center and try to replicate some of Cam's abilities to develop a top offense here again. Defensively....I don't know - I'd imagine he can bring in a great coordinator to take care of that. My 2 cents.

Zach is getting awfully specific now:

"GopherIllustrated.com is hearing that the search is all but over and the next coach will be flying into Minneapolis tomorrow night."

you call that specific? specific would be a name and of course he just speculates like every other twitter, facebook, internet post. same old non concrete info from anyone. which is a joke

Rumors of Edsall to Miami abound. Oy. Do I have to be afraid of Trestman/Chryst again?

I've got a bad feeling about this...

We need someone who can BUILD a program. Not MAINTAIN one. There are some proven builders out there who have publicly stated they were interested. It better be one of them, but the rumors are saying otherwise... /sigh.

So is he saying the name will be announced tomorrow with press conference on monday? If so then no need for airport stakeouts.

He said it was one of the smaller airports. We are going to have to be scattered all around the Metro. Any flights scheduled?

They wouldn't have to fly Chryst from Madison would they? (Praying)

Watch the schedule of flights from Hartford and Providence and a plane belonging to a guy named Denny.

I love seeing a bunch of 4 or 5 stars as anyone and do see a connection between stars and solid programs, but I also want to know what he accomplishes with the players he gets. Sounds like he does pretty well.

Here is what he accomplishes:

Connecticut Huskies (Big East Conference) (2004–present)
2004 Connecticut 8–4 3–3 T–5th W Motor City
2005 Connecticut 5–6 2–5 T–6th
2006 Connecticut 4–8 1–6 T–7th
2007 Connecticut 9–4 5–2 T–1st L Meineke Car Care
2008 Connecticut 8–5 3–4 5th W International
2009 Connecticut 8–5 3–4 T–4th W PapaJohns.com
2010 Connecticut 7–4 4–2
Connecticut: 73–69 21–26

Glen Mason 2.0. If he cannot do better than this in the BigEast how will he do against Nebraska, Michigan, MSU, Wisconsin, Iowa and Northwestern on an annual basis. Edsall is a fine individual, but his hire will equal 35K attendance announced 49K. Good man, bad hire IMO. If this is the deal, we might all owe Adam Kelly an apology. Excitement, we hardly knew ye.

Exactly. I hope Edsall is not the new coach...

Bring instant credibility and visibility to the football program? FAIL

Edsall falls into that Trestman, Chryst, etc.... category for me. Not interested and uninspiring. He has been mason-esque in a terrible conference, the big ten schedule will eat him alive.

Still hoping the plane will be coming with Mullen or Riley aboard.

The only place i want to see a charter plane coming back from is Key West

Gophmeister, you're on FlightAware duty. Find the flight, send out the bat signal, and I'll get the Corolla fired up.

the thing says flying in tomorrow night, so we have some time to research. who knows it may have been leaked by then.

IF ITS ACTUALLY MORE THAN A RUMOR

For really thorough coverage we need a GopherHoler in Madison and Storrs to watch outgoing flights too.

Just scanned the scheduled departures and nothing notable except a private plane leaving from St. Paul's Holmen airport to Dane County Regional (Madison, WI) tonight. Doesn't appear to be a scheduled return flight from what I can tell. Looks like nothing. We'll have to scan every few hours tomorrow.

The flight mentioned above landed in Madison at 8:21pm. A return flight is scheduled to leave Madison at 11:40pm and arrive back in St. Paul at 12:34am.

Again, probably nothing but just thought I'd report it.
