The reason his Minnesota ties are relevant is not because they need to be "one of us", it's relevant because it can give us a leg up on landing a hot commodity who may otherwise not consider us vs his other suitors.

It's just like recruiting the 4 and 5 stars in your own backyard. Sure, 4 star recruits from other parts of the country are just as good, there is nothing inherently better with landing in state highly rated guys but if you can't land your in state 4 and 5 star guys then it's going to be a lot harder to land them from across the country when they have no ties to the school or state.

I also think some of us are downplaying BECAUSE he has Minnesota ties. We are so damaged by BJ that we want to go opposite of that. But if Medved had no MN ties, I think he's probably a pretty good looking candidate.

Or I am just trying to convince myself he'll be good because that's all I can do about it...

Bo Ryan won about a zillion D3 national championships in Wisconsin. I think everyone was pretty aware he could coach.

Minnesota basketball is so far from Wisconsin level. I'd be happy to just see Medved stop them from pulling starters out of the metro.

I don't know how you can cheat anymore but with NC State and Wade, I expect to find out.

I grew up in Appalachia, love me some Huggy Bear, and made almost the same joke (mine was that his contract would have to include a driver on 24-hour standby).

And he would absolutely be a great hire for Minnesota (but will certainly not happen).

And it's true that Minnesota has elite facilities for rehab that might help him. Hazelden in St. Paul comes to mind. But again, very little chance.

I have zero respect for Huggins as a person. I have zero respect for Cincinnati for keeping him as long as they did with about a 25% graduation rate. I can only assume they just gave away degrees at WV when he was there.

It was still a classless joke.
