Nebraska is back...

PJ needs to get his little handwritten chart and call the Indiana coach and let him know he's doing it wrong.

I mean, they're 7-0 and just dismantled the number 7 scoring defense and number 13 defense in total defense.

To the tune of ~2x yardage average and ~5x points allowed.

Don't they understand it's year zero?

Indiana is a team I'm thankful we don't play this year. I'm not sad we don't play Nebraska either.
Glad you're not a coach. Holy chicken shit Batman.

Yeah, the transfer portal makes the first year prospects for a coach much much different then they were before it took off.
Reading comprehension. The rules were different pre 2020. Pretty simple what he is saying actually.

Not really sure this has anything to do with fleck

However, comparing year 1 to any coach pre 2020 is an awful comparison. A lot of indianas players wouldn’t be eligible to play this year pre-2020
Yeah I was going to mention that as well, but I’m glad to see some thinking people on here. It’s a cute line to keep saying “year 0, year 0”, but when you can bring all your good players along PLUS a bunch of others from the portal, it’s really not the same as it was. I think they’re starting at least 6 transfers including a QB, an FCS All American (or 2?), and a DL that a ton of schools wanted.

Not taking anything at all away from IU — they look completely legit. I’m just saying there’s no way Cignetti does this pre 2020. He’s undoubtedly a good coach and would’ve made them a better team, but not this good.

Correct. Totally legit.
Great hire, great season.

Much more real than the Tom Allen covid fake season

Couldn't take my eyes off the game. There were others to watch and I couldn't flip the channel. It was awesome.

If Nebraska finishes 7-5 or 6-6, will that hamper their top 15 2025 preseason ranking? Could they fall to top 25?
No, and No. Death, taxes, and the annual slobbering about how good Nebraska is going to be.

A Nebraska Cornhuskers fan says, "Man, Scott Frost was the worst!"
Matt Rhule overhears and, with a grin, says, "Hold my corn."
They at least have stopped managing to beat themselves with stupid turnovers and penalties. Now they’re losing because they’re just not as good and teams have learned their line sucks and Raiola doesn’t look like such a hot shot when you bring pressure. Massive improvement

Based on what? Gophers have had 15 players drafted since 2020, Nebraska has had 9. 4 all conference selections for us last year, 1 for Nebraska.
By recruiting rankings. That’s what I was referring to. Although it matters what coaches do with it and frost didn’t do much. Current coach is still up in the air.

Going by 247 sports Nebraska has ranked 4,5,10,5,and 6 in the big ten over the past five years

MN has ranked 9,8,14,9,and 10.

Nebraska has two losses to teams in the top 20, no shame in that.

I’d take Fleck over their coach. If fleck could get the same talent at MN that Nebraska has I think he’d be considered one of the best in the country.

Nebraska has been the poster child for a while in terms of teams where their recruiting rankings and on field performance don't come close to matching up.

That said, in the transfer portal era it is debatable if there is any real value in high school recruiting rankings at all at this point since so many of the players that sign out of high school won't ever see meaningful playing time for the team they signed with initially anyway.

I totally agree with that. HS recruiting is not nearly as important as it was 10 years ago IMO.

Agreed.

Jerry Kill said that an improving team is "One week you kick someone's ass, the next you get your ass kicked."

PJ's version:

I think Nebraska is improving ... but that doesn't mean you don't get your ass kicked sometimes.
