NCAA Tourney

I don't think its going to happen. The NCAA claims attendance is way up doing it this way. Geno seemed more irritated about the practice time, facility and scheduling impact.

I get wanting to give different cities and regions the opportunity to host. But a city like Sacramnto makes it difficult for much of the country to travel. Having to go there for work, you're looking at $700-900 for a direct flight almost all the time no matter how far in advance you book. Even if you can afford it, that's spendy and many people would rather stretch their $ on other trips for that price.

Back to the four regional sites, I wasn’t a fan when it was always in UConn and South Carolina’s backyard either.

Identical 70-52 scores today. What are the odds of that happening? I thought Notre Dame and Duke represented themselves well against two powerhouse teams. Will be interesting to see how UCLA reloads for next year. No worries for UConn with Strong and Quinones back.

Okay, my bad with the identical scores which I got from the ESPN scoreboard. Either way, it would have been interesting to see how our Gophers would have fared against Notre Dame or Duke. I'd like their chances against Notre Dame. Not as sure about Duke.

I thought Notre Dame and Duke put forth great efforts too. My personal believe is that in order to win against UConn, you have to be able to take their overly physical game and turn it back on them. You have to do everything short of having the refs call you for so much physical contact and pressure them into making mistakes. Kind of like when Herb Brooks said the U.S. team had to beat the Soviets at their own style of play.

Picture in paper version of Tribune after UCLA of Braun and Battle embracing... very emotional... no need for an article, the photo says it all...

They lose Williams and Fudd. That's it from their rotation. Three natties in a row is likely.

Women's basketball is extremely top heavy every year.
Correct. 1 seeds advance at really high rate. 23 point average margin of victory for regional finals this weekend.

All number ones advanced. All the chalk number 1 seeds look capable of winning it all.

There are 4 good teams this year.
This year was an extreme case. During Caitlin Clark’s senior year, 14 different teams were ranked in the AP top 4 at some point in the season. Only 4 teams have appeared in the AP top 4 this entire season. Vandy spent 1 week in the top 4 of the Coaches’ poll, otherwise the same.

I agree, you have to look at more than a single season. I get really frustrated with lack of athleticism on the Gophers, but then I realize it's really a handful of teams that can't compete with. UCLA isn't the most athletic, but they make up for it with size and experience.

I haven't read through the thread, so excuse me if repeating previous posts. Women's game is still extremely top heavy. Top four seeds and maybe1of the 2 seeds are the only ones capable of winning at this point. Just look at the score differentials. Gophers actually held their own compared to some of the other sweet 16/elite 8 games.

Agreed . The average margin of victory was 23 points in the elite 8 games. Big separation between the top 4 and the remaining teams. The top 4 all have multiple WNBA caliber athletes.

Quite the athletic show and pace to this first game.

South Carolina is playing UConn's game of hard pressing, slapping, pushing, shoving, and what not on defense and its rattling UConn. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Geno's just mad that South Carolina took UConn's scrappy, gritty defensive game and used it against them. South Carolina had UConn on the ropes for almost the entire game.
