Naught SS chants

The profanity bothers me naught. I'd just like to see some creativity, profane or clean. Don't go overboard with the swearing obviously, but F Tom Izzo is just borrrinnnng.

I think someone previously mentioned that when coaches got furious the whole student section would just imitate/mock him and yell really loud. Chant that Izzo is a midget. Crean is tan. Chant at Bo "You Stole Christmas" etc. F Tom Izzo is just lazy.

It wasn't always like that, just a few years ago Anthony Tucker played here and the chants of "Who likes drinking? He likes drinking!" Were great. Someone just needs to take charge for those creative chants.

Even in Boston during an NBA game against the Lakers (Yes, NBA fans were more creative) I believe there was an "Ugly Sister" chant at Lamar Odom for being married to Khloe Kardashian (the ugly sister)

I liked GL idea about putting chants in the pre game newsletter.

Chanting that at Tom Izzo is a little different than doing it to Bo Ryan. I'm not really defending it either way, but I simply don't get chanting it at Izzo. He is not the enemy.

That said, I think the notion that the U should 'do something about it' is silly. The last thing they need to do is make the student section quieter. I was sitting on the opposite side and we couldn't really hear it clearly. Was it clear on TV? Either way, I think we're making too big a deal of it.

+1,000,000

I can't believe there is even one person on here defending a F*** Tom Izzo chant. It was emabarrassing and classless and made us all look bad.

I can't believe Izzo got the ref's ear for as long as he did without getting a technical foul. When we are winning a game and the other team's coach is able to disrupt the game for as long as Izzo did, the fans are going to get mad. It wasn't like the game was moving along and the students just started it for no reason.

If getting rid of the F bombs automatically makes the student section 'quieter' we have serious issues.

I remember in the day when Bobby Knight would show up. All he had to do was put one foot up on the floor and the whole place would booooooooo louder than he!!(yes even the older folks). The longer he stayed the louder it got. If you want the whole crowd to join in, don't use the F bombs.

If you're in the student section I encourage you to come up with better ways to be loud. The point is having the U 'crack down' by policing and threatening to throw kids out will either make them do it more or stop coming to the games. Either way, not the desired result. Reminds me of when UVa 'banned' the phrase 'not gay' that they inserted in the school song. Just made them sing it louder. Then they got tired of it and it went away on its own.

Kill, rape, pillage, burn, kill, rape, pillage, burn, eat babies ... Spartan babies!

That one?

I think it's fine to be disrespectful and mocking to the other team, but BE CREATIVE. The stupid, lazy F%$@ so and so is just boring and makes us look stupid.

I could list multiple creative chants others have used, but most people know them. We'd just rather not be creative anymore in our student section. That said, this is a minor complaint IMO. Showing up and being loud is number 1.

Kill, mame, pillage, burn. I agree, it's still disrespectful. But not over the top.

And it is important that those things happen in order. As "Hagar the Horrible" discovered as he walked away from a destroyed city:

"I have to remember, Pillage then burn, Pillage then burn."

I think Izzo speaks more poorly to his players than our students did to him. I too felt Izzo was given too much rope and he just kept running with it.

I also believe it is a great time for our students who are very intelligent and creative to come up with some great chants that represent the U well! Add some more traditions the time is perfect!

Keep it loud and fun at home for our team the Big Ten is a tough place on the road!

This whole argument somewhat ignores the bigger issue: the sidleines antics of certain Big Ten coaches are overboard, obnoxious and embarassing. Izzo, Crean and especially Ryan should be regularly T'ed up with the way they go after the referees (yes, they use bad language) all the time.

The student section should spoken to as soon as the respective ADs speak to their coaches about their boorish behavior. Who is the role model? Tom Izzo or the kid in the cow suit?

Tom Izzo or the kid in the cow suit?

Neither. The role model is crazy stare guy.

Either that or crazy cymbal player guy from years ago (who I recently found out was one of the dancers in The New Standards Holiday Show this year)

He was great.

I have always wondered why the hockey student section has so many great and creative cheers, and the basketball student section doesn't have anything. The student section is one of the big reasons hockey games are so much fun to go to. Hockey has numerous cheers, for certain situations that are yelled in unison by everyone.

Dan Monson Era.

I don't really care what anyone here on GH says, I don't care who the opposing coach is. If he comes to OUR BARN and raises hell with the refs, he deserves everything that the SS can throw at him.

I don't want to discourage an energetic student section, but I guess I fall in the camp of wanting to show a little more class. I wouldn't want to shout F*ck Jud Heathcoate, but I would maybe chant "Cut Your Hair" to Gene Keady.

Ooo! I can play!

I *would* shout, "Not Your Re-cruits" to Steve Fischer, but I *wouldn't* shout, "$#&% MY @!&&% $%#* GINGRICH!!!" to Tom Davis.

yes! Tom Davis did change his name to Newt and became a "successful" politician post Hawkeyes.

No one was better at unifying a crowd in mutual dislike, than Bobby Knight though. Everyone could agree he was an *sshole.

I remember the SS getting emails after we played ASU in 06/07 for yelling at Herb Sendek that he needed to join the hair club for men..

That year it was much easier to tell which one of the 50 of us were yelling bad things at the opposing coach..
